solid thread.

I never forget that Juve 1998 team was robbed from the CL title by offside mijatovic goal, then again thats Real Madrid for you
In 1999 they were class team as well, though they suffered in league..but they could have won the cl if ancelotti didnt happen ( 2 - 0 up, cock it up and lose 3 - 2 ).

In that List I would also add Milan 2003 - 2007. I think they achieved less then they should though, they did two massive chokejobs vs deportivo and liverpool ( both ties up at one point by 3 goal difference, and cock it up ).

Real Madrid early 2000's might get there too. Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, Roberto Carlos... they didnt win a CL title with Ronaldo..But I feel that team on paper was scary good. They won two in early 2000's tho.

When it comes to NT's. I think France 1998 - 2006 with zidane, viera, henry etc etc deserve a mention. Italy also 1990's were unluckiest team ever, losing on penalties to eventual champions always. That Italy deserved to win world cup more then 2006 team, just unlucky.

I really liked Holland team 1996 - 2000 as well.

Bayern Munich in the late 90s was an amazing team and an extremely unlucky one.

1999 CL final- You know what happened

2000 CL semis: Anelka makes the difference and the ref not calling many fouls in the first leg and that silly back header from Anelka, they thrashed Real 4-1,4-2 in the second group stage.

Amazing team filled with quality.

2001: CL winner

Guardiola's Barcelona and Sacchi&Capello's Milan are the 2 safest choices for clubs. After these 2, things getting hazy... There are too many good choices;
- Los Galacticos
- Lippi era Juventus (both eras)
- Hitzfeld era Bayern
- Mourinho era Chelsea (I think his Real Madrid side was good enough to make the list but their achievements fall short)
- van Gaal era Ajax
- Ferguson's United from 2006 to 2009 (or 2011)
- Ancelotti era Milan (from 2003 to 2007, mainly due to huge CL success. Otherwise their Serie A history should be much more better with that squad.)

Also it is hard to describe this generation of Bayern München. They started to win with van Gaal. In van Gaal's 1st season, they won 2 major cups. They weren't that good in 2010-11 season. In Heynckes' first season, they lost every single trophy in the last games. After that they hammered entire Europe and there was a treble. If Heynckes was still Bayern's coach, I'd call their era started with van Gaal. But Guardiola plays a considerably different approach with the exact same gen. There is a blur about that.

Discount both of Lippi's team's due to drugs and ref usage, ergo Milan's failure to win more than 1 league in the mid 00's.

bayern - Surely the fact that the players have adapted to a different approach under Guardiola is even more reason to highlight them as a great team!

NT Teams
1) Spain 08-Present
2) France 98-2006
3) Brazil 98-02
4) Italy 90-94
5) Holland 94-98
:howler: what?

Those team were serious rubbish. Holland actually had a stronger in the years before, they won euro 88 and were favourites for 92 and WC 1990 (lost to the eventual winners in both 90 and 92).

Also germany from 90-96 were probably better than any NT on that list except spain.

How could Pep's Barca not be number one ?

Really a team that wopped Madrid/Mourinho 5-0, beat fergie twice in a very dominating manner won 6 trophies in one year, followed by another double after it , is number 1.
