Since I checkd theres no thread on this, I thought Id atleast put something up .. to honour, remeber , celebrate this magnificent player ...

but basically, I just read in th paper, that he is

7 GOALS SHORT of reaching 1 000 goals ... ( right or wrong, thats the figure)

so , lets keep a watch on his dream ...to reach where ONLY Pele reached

Romario is an all time legend. One of the greatest players ever.

But I do wonder about those 1000 goals. According to these stats from Wikipedia, he scored:

1985-1987 Vasco da Gama 113 matches (73 goals)
1988-1992 PSV Eindhoven 109 matches (98 goals)
1992-1994 FC Barcelona 46 matches (34 goals)
1995-1996 Flamengo 46 matches (31 goals)
1996-1998 Valencia CF 11 matches (5 goals)
1998-1999 Flamengo 39 matches (26 goals)
2000-2001 Vasco da Gama 44 matches (41 goals)
2002 Fluminense FC 26 matches (17 goals)
2003 Al Sadd 6 matches (0 goals)
2003-2004 Fluminense FC 34 matches (18 goals)
2005-2006 Vasco da Gama 31 matches (23 goals)
2006 Miami FC 27 matches (22 goals)
2006 Adelaide United 4 matches (1 goal)
2007 Vasco da Gama

That adds up to 389 goals.

He also played for the NT between 1987-2005, 70 matches (55 goals).

So that brings the total up to 444 goals.

Now if his current total is said to be 993, where did he score the remaining 549 goals?

in training? iirc Pele counted every goal he scored, even the ones in friendlies and viagra ads

yeah well, thats pretty intresting inint .. only HE knows for sure ...

but if his GOAL is to get to THE 1000, then so be it ...

But anyway ...Yall recon he'l retire after the BIG 1K or will he want to add say another 10+ ..?

About Franz Binder and Arthur Friedenrich ...didnt know about them , but the thing is , Pele & Romario are the general media's 1000 goal men...

just outta intrest , can U pull a Bio/Career sheet on thise guys ??

That is true, one of the Brazilian posters showed a site that listed his goals, and there were plenty of European opponents in their. Part of the Get Pele 1000 goals Tournament" perhaps. :D

Pele

1956-1974 Santos FC 729 matches (784 goals)
1975-1977 New York Cosmos 79 matches (57 goals)

1956-1971 National team 92 matches (77)

Total 918 goals.

So at least Pele comes a lot closer to the actual 1000 goals mark than Romario.

I can't find stats on Friedenrich and Binder, only various sites that mention career totals (1,329 and 1,154 respectively). But those figures aren't verified.

I believe goals scored in cup games aren't included. Nor friendlies
