This match could go anywhere. Zamparini has come out abusing the players and it could either fire them up or give impotence to their collapse. What does work in our favour is their seemingly impossible task of getting into UEFA. They might have given up and are just looking to ride out the season.

Nonetheless if they were to gain anything from the last couple of matches, the first job would be dealing with us at home. We cant let the buffer slip!

This game will be a hard one I think, but if Fiorentina wants that 4th spot, they just should win. Doesn't matter on which way, but I'd like to see another purple and white team into next years Champions League :)

And what about Ujpest ;)

I think even one point from Plaermo would be worth of gold. But of course 3 will be better! I think Roma won't make 9 of their last three matches.

Serie A Week 36 - 30/4/06 (14.00 UK)
Palermo - Fiorentina

Stadio Barbera

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo and Fiorentina will both be missing their influential captains when they meet at the Stadio Renzo Barbera. The Sicilians are once again without veteran midfielder Eugenio Corini while the away side must cope with the loss of fan favourite Dario Dainelli. Both sides will be hoping they can overcome those injuries to continue their push for European qualification. The Rosanero are struggling to keep up with the pace set by their rivals, but the Viola are now firmly in control in the race for fourth spot.

Fiorentina’s win in the Tuscan derby against Empoli could have secured their presence in the Champions League next season after a lengthy absence. That win put them a healthy three points ahead of Roma and, with the capital club facing a difficult last day tie at Milan, the Viola’s fate is now firmly in their own hands.

A win in this fixture would give them a great chance of achieving an unlikely fourth place after becoming this season’s surprise team. With only three matches left star striker Luca Toni will be desperate to get on the scoresheet once again as he aims for the elusive 30-goal mark. However, Michele Pazienza and Sebastien Frey will not be able to help as they are both still injured.

Their Sicilian opponents have a mammoth task on their hands if they are to repeat last term’s amazing achievements and qualify for the UEFA Cup. Their costly defeat to fellow European hopefuls Livorno has affectively ended their chances and even a win in this game could not be enough to keep them in the running if Lazio win their home match with already relegated Lecce.

But even if European qualification seem unlikely the Rosanero will still be eager to finish as strongly as possible, especially with the likes of Cristian Zaccardo, Fabio Grosso, Simone Barone and Andrea Barzagli all pushing for a place in Marcello Lippi’s World Cup squad. Unfortunately another Azzurri hopeful Christian Terlizzi is out through injury, as is midfielder Massimo Mutarelli.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo: Agliardi; Zaccardo, Barzagli, Biava, Grosso; Tedesco, Codrea, Barone; Brienza, Di Michele; Caracciolo

Fiorentina: Lobont; Ujfalusi, Gamberini, Kroldrup, Pasqual; Fiore, Brocchi, Donadel, Jorgensen; Jimenez; Toni

We dont NEED to win, although it would help us. We only need 7 points to guarentee 4th place, thats asuming Roma gain 9 and they have to play milan on the last day.

A draw at Palermo and a win at home against Reggina will still have us infront of Roma if they win both games Leaving the last round (away at Chievo and Roma away to Milan). If we have the lead going into the last round i think we should be ok. Saying that weirder things have happened especially in Serie A.

Don't rely on last day matches. If Milan is not in scudeto fight, they would have nothing to play. So, Roma can easily win that last game. Because of that, we have to do our best in next game and try to win by all means. Then we can calculate on the last match against Chievo.

Perrotta Hopes In Palermo Help

Roma are three points behind Fiorentina in the race for a Champions League spot.

Simone Perrotta still believes Roma can cut down the three point gap separating the Giallorossi from the Viola in these last three matchdays, but to do so, the Capital city club will need the help of Fiorentina's opponents, starting with Palermo, who held the Giallorossi to an incredible 3-3 result a few weeks back.

“Let’s hope that Palermo helps us and beats Fiorentina. If we’re fifth the regret is for the draw against them and also for the start of the season.

“Now we have three matches to win and we confide in Fiorentina's opponents to help us out, starting from Palermo. Let’s hope they play better than they did against us.

“Last Sunday’s draw against Sampdoria proved that in the Italian league no one gives you anything for free. However, if on Sunday we beat Chievo, and Palermo wins, we shall be back in the Champions League zone.”

Fiore: Sunday Might Be Decisive

Fiorentina need all three points against Palermo to keep Roma at bay in the race for the fourth place in Serie A.

Stefano Fiore thinks that Sunday’s match against Palermo might be decisive to reach the last available Champions League spot.

“This might be a decisive Sunday for the season finale. Palemo will be very motivated; we shall go there to win fundamental points.”

The Viola currently hold a three point lead over Roma with three matchdays to go.

Ujfalusi Fears Palermo

The Czech defender predicts a tough game against the Rosanero for his Fiorentina side.
The Viola continue their race for the fourth place in Serie A, with their next stop being Palermo who, according to Tomas Ujfalusi, will be a very difficult opponent to face.

“They are a very combative squad. In Florence they put us in difficulty and I expect a very tough away game, not only for the value of the opponents but also for the heat we shall find on the pitch.

“We are optimistic, however no one will give us anything for free and we shall have to win points with our own strengths. But we are very happy.”

Fiorentina currently hold a three point lead over Roma with three matches to go till the end of the season.

Toni expects Palermo boo boys Friday 28 April, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo fans are preparing a fiery welcome for former hero Luca Toni when Fiorentina visit on Sunday, but the hitman says it won’t affect him.

“I don’t know what kind of greeting I’ll receive at the Stadio Barbera, but I get jeered in many stadiums and that’s not a problem for me,” insisted the Capocannoniere.

Toni became a legend for the Sicilian outfit when he helped them to promotion from Serie B and then a place in the UEFA Cup with 50 goals in two seasons.

However, since completing a ÂŁ7m move to Fiorentina in the summer, he has become the focus of anger from a section of the Rosanero fans, who hurled insults at him throughout his previous visit to the Stadio Barbera with the Italy squad.

“I’ve been told that the fans have prepared banners and a special choreography against me, even buying whistles in bulk to make the noise deafening. I am curious and frankly don’t understand the reason why. It won’t change the way we play, as we are all professionals here. I’m looking forward to this game, even if it’ll be tough.”

With a club record 28 goals in 35 Serie A appearances, will Toni limit his celebrations if he adds to that tally against his former teammates?

“I don’t really believe in that approach, but it all depends on how I feel at the time. We’ll see what happens.”

Fiorentina are locked in a battle for points with Roma and a place in the Champions League at stake, but know all too well the dangers of playing in Sicily, as a fortnight ago the Giallorossi lost a 3-0 lead here to draw 3-3.

“If we get all nine points from the remaining games, then we’re mathematically certain of fourth place, but we’ll see what happens one week at a time. Roma also have a tough test with Chievo, so it’ll be a real fight until the bitter end.”

Palermo is surely a very good team, but what confuses me is that their defense with three NT players allows so many goals.
