After all the criticism Ludo recieved, I think he deserves a mention and not just for his important goal in San Siro.

First of all, Giuly will always be one of the heroes of the last Liga. He was one of the 3 legs of the attacking trio. The guy came from Monaco, where he was an idol, to be a team player of the new hungry Barcelona.

It was known he had bad moments at the begining. He's shy, he had many problems with the language and he hard a tough moment adapting to his new city. Despite all this, his work, effort and mentality made him grow and be one of the keys of the title.

He wasn't a right wing, but he accomplised the orders of the coach as a good soldier. He promised 10 goals and the man accomplished with his word.

This year he faced bad moments. An injury relegated him to the bench and the great Messi took his place. He felt somehow in a state of depression. Whenever he had minutes, he didn't perform as well as he was supposed to. I really thought that he wasn't ready for the bench and I felt sorry for the guy.

Then Larsson even took his 2nd place and Giuly faced his worst moment. Whenever Messi was out, Larsson was the choice instead of Ludo. The rumours about his departure grew.

But in the last weeks, we lost the wonder-kid Messi. Larsson didn't keep the same scoring rate and Giuly got the place again, because of all the missings.

... and the big Ludo has responded to the team, when probably noone trusted in him anymore. IMO, he has been the best of the team along with Iniesta.

He did a good game in San Siro, but so he did against Racing and Villarreal.

Today, EMD did a report with him, because he was one of the keys of the victories of San Siro. "Yes, we may say that my goal opened the way to Paris, but not everything is done. Paris pass for the Camp Nou. We must go step by step, facing the game with calm and not believing everything is done.

"I decided to make a diagonal from the wing, it's something I do very often to get free from the mark of the full back. I went towards the center and I found a great pass from Ronaldinho. He put the ball in the perfect place, bouncing, so I could only shoot. It wasn't an easy ball, but whenever I shot, I knew it may go in. In any case, you must shoot. Ronnie always pass the ball wherever he wants and so he did it San Siro"

"I dedicate this goal to my family, especially my sons Flavio and Diego. My family was with me when I was injured or benched and they helped me a lot. The phone call that made me more illusion was the one I got from Diego, when the game had finished. I needed this goal in the personal level. Besides it may help me to enter in the NT that goes to the WC. My illusion is to win titles with Barça, but I also think in my NT".

Giuly confessed that Rijkaard told him he was going to be changed early in the 2nd half, but he asked for some more minutes. "I asked for it, because I needed some more time to enjoy the match and to enter in the game. I felt well on the pitch and I asked the coach to give me 20 or 25 minutes more. Everything worked fine".

"I'm on clouds, everyone says congratulations to me and this is a goal that makes me very proud, but I have to recognize the work done by my teammates. Ronaldinho, for his pass; the work of the defense; from the first to the last. If we finally win the title, this CL will be the cup of everyone. And when I say everyone, I also refer about the fans, who always treated me so well in these 2 years and are with us in every game, in Liga and CL."

"I just have a dream to achieve, to play a CL final fit. The one I played with Monaco, I could just be 19 minutes on the pitch, because I got injured and it's like a knife in the heart. Besides, this year it is in Paris and it makes me have a special illusion".

Giuly is a real soldier, he is the exact difference between a galactico and a true profissional. No hard feelings toward the coach or the team, he accepts any decision, and fight whenever he has the chance.. I believe our team is successful because of this type of players, Giuly, larsson, iniesta, oleguer, etc..
Well done Giuly  keep it up :)

Also...The thing about Giuly (and also players like Bommel) is that he is a true Barcelonista, he dreamed about playing for Barça.

If you see (old) interviews where they ask for their favourite foreign club, the answer is Barca. If you see the gesture towards the FCB-shield Giuly made after scoring the goal, you know he bleeds Barça.

 Giuly

maybe sometimes I pash him a lot, or criticis him for a missing chance or not following the ball in the right moment.
still I admit his a great player, and it shows that he do his best when he runs up and down the field and covers with his team mates, and mainly what make me happy for him, is that we've seen a lot of players benched and cry about it, still he wasn't one of them, he never came to the press and started saying I must start and I must do this and must be doing that, he kept his eyes for the chances he gets, and when he gets them he shows why he's a true profficional.

I maybe been hard on him, still I'm more proud of him, than I've been about a lot of players who passed in this team, and played for us.

Visca Giuly :star:  :proud:

Yeah Jern it makes sense to you :)
Because Messi is a little wonderkid shoudn´t take anything away from Giuly, merci. He always worked hard and now hes beginning to finsh better, San Siro, also against Villar where he had a couple of good shots denied. Luck hasn´t alway been on this mans side. I think we all remember the game Ludo hit the woodwoork 3 times, i think :stress: and his injuries.
What impress me the most about him, is his ability to find spaces everywhere, so he always ends up having lots of chances. Granted he should be much more clinical in front of the goal but never gives up and is bleeding for the team.

In the San Siro, it was clear that he was given more of a defensive role, helping Oleguer containing Serginho and he did. He was all over that flank, no wonder he was subbed after an hour. I hope he stays for the next couple of years.

Keep it up Ludo

Totally agree, Giuly deserves some praise after a lot of (unjust) negativity.

But as I said in the match thread, some are very unrealistic about Giuly. He wasn't crap before and is gold now all of a sudden because of one goal. He is in great form recently and one of our best players (Villareal, Milan), but his finishing remains frustrating at times, so prepare yourself for some more "Giuly missed, arghh, I hate him, rabble rabble rabble". ;) Still, he adds something to the attack and people often overlook why he gets those chances he misses in first place.

2 points that I haven't even thought of before.

Now we HAVE TO win this competition. For Ludo! :star:

he is a very good player, the best thing in him is that he is always able to find space behind opposition. A really good player to open a very defensive unit like Milan. He should definetly start the second leg.

Exactly. This player is good enough to play in Barcelona and I feel bad when people trash him so badly. He was one of the main keys of the title last year. 10 goals, that's a lot after all. He also gave many assists, but I especially give him something that many people forget. He adds a different thing to our attack that others don't have. Giuly ALWAYS gives an option to the midfield, this is very important, and he does in 2 different ways: one, like Ronaldinho, going backwards to receive the ball when the midfielders are in trouble; but he also does something Ronaldinho never does, Giuly looks for the back of the defense, like he did in San Siro. His diagonal movements give always an option to the midfield, even if the ball doesn't go to him, because with these movements he leaves spaces to Eto'o or the full back to use his theorical position. It is a kind of movement that it's very hard to defend.

That aspect of his game is something that Messi doesn't have either. Messi is more like Ronaldinho, both prefer the ball to the feet and create the chance by themselves.

It's unfair to compare Giuly with Messi, since Messi is a great natural talent. But Guily is a very intelligent player that uses his skills like few players.

I realize that it's very nice to see the dribblings and tricks of Ronnie and Messi, but the dark work of Giuly is very important too and not always pointed.

Ludovic Giuly may not be the symbol of this team, but he's an important player after all and he has something that I always demand from a player: He never hides, he never complains, and he's mad when he's benched, because he knows he can do it well. Maybe he's not as good as others, but you ALWAYS know that he's going to try it and, as I said, he is the kind of player that makes his teammates look better. How many times he made Eto'o good opening a space for him? How many times did he make Ronaldinho good for looking for the back of the defense to receive a pass? How many times did he make Xavi and Deco good for offering them an option to pass the ball? How many times did he make Oleguer and Belletti good helping them in defense?

Yeah... Messi is from another planet and I think he assumes it, but at the same time, I think Giuly is a great player that does a lot for the team. I'll always respect this guy. And yes, he fails sometimes, because he's brave and he doesn't hide and he assures that it doesn't matter how many times he has to try it, he won't get scared.

Some people say JoaquĂn is better. Bullshit. JoaquĂn is a damn talented coward, who shines in a good day, but hides when things don't work in his way. Giuly is a true professional that won't get scared of any defense and, if he has to try it 100 times, he'll do. He can go with the chin up, unlike many liars of football.

I've always defended Giuly...in fact I will always defend any Barca player when he is criticised. It's my way of seeing things, if it's a Barca player it's my player and I would never criticised him in public. I think that is giving arguments to all those anti-Barca fans who are delighted when things go wrong at Can Barca.
Also, one of the problems that Barca has always had is the fact that too many people, talk too much about too many things related to Barca. The famous "entorn" plays a decisive role in the well (or bad) being of our club. That's my philosophy though...if I don't like something about a player I swear at him as loud as I can... :frustrat: :frustrat: but always in the comfort of my own house and in front of the tv!! :) :)
Anyway, I think I went a bit off topic here.... :scared: sorry!

Well done Ludo. Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!

i was so angry with Barca fans at half time.. the man was sweating blood literally and everybody bashed him.. i felt that everybody was ignorant or watching another game.... he had an offensive and a defensive role.. and they just wanted him to score... or they just wanted to put the blame on somebody when in fact we were losing all the midfield battles in the 1st half.........

I think Giuly is well deserving of this praise.

I will say however, he always puts in the effort he put against Milan, but if he could just get his foot to strike the ball like it did on Tuesday more often he'd be a huge idol. He is so good at getting chances, but really could score more. For his and our sake i'm hoping this is the start of a great run of form in front of goal. He definitely deserves it.
