Who do you guys think are worthly of being in the top 10 best players in the Italian football history?
Yes, that part is a bit confusing from Deano. Maybe something to do with Nesta being an ex laziali? Although, I have found Deano to be largely an unbiased guy.Nero said:I was just curious, because he said he'd only consider Buffon and Canna from the current crop, to potentially make the top XI.
I think Nesta would be a worthy candidate too.
I think there have been a few threads dedicated to this argumentFirdaus said:You can't talk about the best players without mentioning Sandro Mazzola and Gianni Rivera.
Between the two, Mazzola's won more and has played more for the national team though.
Italy is renowned for defenders, but yes - defenders have harder time to get into all time-best-list since it's harder to see them in glory - the goals, the assists, the wonder moves. There are a few there who are very close to the list because they were truly great - Facchetti and Baresi IMO. Maldini won't get into the list at the end of the day IMO, in the historic view of things. Just my opinion, NT-wise... but he is great too no doubt. You'll notice I included 2 Keepers - some of the best in history of the game IMO, and that is the ultimate defense glory and in fact, what truly Italia is legendary of.Deano said:As you can see GBA does not like defenders not even naming one. When you consider Italy is renound for their defending you have to put at least 2 in there.
Only an Interista can come out with that comment :howler:Firdaus said:You can't talk about the best players without mentioning Sandro Mazzola and Gianni Rivera.

It could be because many of the younger XTers have not seen the great man himself in action. Scirea remains to date the most elegant, classiest and composed defender I've seen playing on the pitch, and that is some accolade indeed having being pampered by the likes of Baresi, Maldini and now Nesta at my favourite club. For a player playing almost his entire career in defense, Scirea was probably the only defender never to have been sent off :eekani: nor suspended due to cummulative bookings :eekani: A legendary player, and may he rest in peace :frownani:juventus2 said:Why is Scirea so underrated here?
The most important trophies from that time to the present are the scudetti as well as the European Cups.ilgenio said:Only an Interista can come out with that comment :howler:
Mazzola won 4 scudetti and 2 Europen Cups with Inter, while Rivera won 3 Scudetti, 2 European Cups, 2 European Cup Winners Cup, 4 Coppa Italia (in those days the Coppa was a competition taken far more seriously than it is today) with Milan. In terms of personal awards, Rivera too has won the Ballon d'Or in 1969 and finished as runner-up in 1963 to Lev Yashin when he was only 20 years old :eekani:
This is the top 10, not top 10,000.Il_Capitano10 said:where's il capitano dawgs??
