when Abramovich bought Chelsea, not many of us thought they would get to the summit of European football like they are today..but now, there is no denying that Chelsea is one of the "big teams" in Europe and well, rightfully so...
but, when you look at their long-term future, what do you see?
Chelsea of today is exactly like the Lazio or more specifically, Parma of the 90s..Parma won many UEFA Cups (when it was more competitive than the CL) and was a major force in European football...same can be said about Lazio, but their European successes weren't as big as their domestic ones...Parma had the likes of Brolin, Asprilla, Zola, Stoichtkov, Cannavaro, Thuram, Crespo, Veron, Buffon and many others..players that are more or less the same calibre of Chelsea's Terry, Lampard, Ballack, Drogba, Deco, Essien, Carvalho and others
but now, we know what has happened to the 2 Italian teams

will Chelsea too have a bad ending or will they be able to stay on top for awhile (by this, i mean atleast 10 or 15 more years)

Chelsea can more easily remain a top team that what Parma and Lazio were.

The reason is that there are 4 CL spots, and currently, there are 4 teams that dominate the EPL. Therefore, the top 4 team can subsist nearly indefinitely.

Back in Serie A, there 7 top teams that dominated, and it wasn't until 1999 that you could send 4 teams in the CL. Therefore, even with 4 CL spots, it was inevitable that at least 3 of the "top 7" would fail... and that's only after 1999 when the CL even had 4 spots.

If Lazio had that money input today like they did 10 years back, they could become a persistent top club, because there are 4 CL spots, so they would just need to beat off Roma for a couple of seasons.

yeah, they didn't...but the teams they assembled back in the nineties were as good, if not better, than Chelsea's team of today...plus, they had the 8 + 3 foreign rule that restricted buying more foreigners..
what if Roman suddenly loses his interest on the team?

Right, so just assembling the team isn't good enough. You have the money to maintain it.

what if Roman suddenly loses his interest on the team?
Chelsea has the 2nd highest revenue of any team in England, so even if Roman leaves, it looks like they'd be ok. If Roman leaves, Chelsea will just be bought by some other foreigner.

So another difference is foreign vs. domestic ownership. When it comes to that, foreign ownership has a larger supply of money than any Italian can supply - which is why Lazio wasn't anywhere near Chelsea today in terms of financial resources.

Also, back to the CL spots idea, I think that Man City's current owners made a mistake. A league cannot support more top teams than the number of CL spots, and the EPL already has 4 solid top teams and dislodging one of them will be very difficult. In contrast, Spain only has 2 top teams, so a new super wealthy club there would very easily establish themselves.

They would have been much better off buying Valencia or Atletico then... They are already big names in Europe and with financial backing would have had no problems attracting big names like Kaka that Man City have right now.

As for Chelsea, barring a catastrophe, they will be good for the next 10 seasons at least, even if Roman does lose interest.

Really? Seriously?

How about quite the opposite, Abramovich came in spending and spending and even more spending. We knew that the team was going amongst the top clubs. And I think we all knew that all he wants is to win a CL and if in the process, he wins an EPL championship, the better.

I think the real question is what happens if Abramovich gets tired or worse, bored, and stops spending his own petro euros.

Alot of this Chelsea hate reaks of Old Boys club mentality, especially from supporters of clubs who have seen there day and are languishing in mediocraty, clinging to history to soothe their embarrassment of a football team.

To say Chelsea are hated because of their money, is pure ignorance.

With most clubs you may hate them, but you can always find something about them to like/respect even with Real Madrid. Can someone name anything likable/respectable about Chelsea? because i find everything about them disgusting. From the colour of their kit, to their players. Just a vile club that stands for everything that is wrong with football.

Like i said, there are plenty of things i can think of to like about other clubs, not so with Chelsea.
Subjectivity defined.

So again what is there to like about Chelsea? who knows, i may even start liking them if someone can give a reasonable answer.
What is there to like about Liverpool? I haven't found anything.

Abramovic's Chelsea is the best thing that has happened to the Premiership for years. It forced everyone, especially UTD, to raise their level. We have assembled the best squad in English league history imo. It also brought alot of attention to the league, and made helped catapult the league beyond La Liga and Serie A.
