Football is obviously a collecticely sport, and I love a player with vision. But I think by far the most exciting players are those who can dribble, the ones with alot of skill. So who do you think is the best dribbler?
I'm between Ronaldinho, Denilson, and Robinho. Right now, after last night's game against the Paraguaian team, my vote goes to Robinho.

I dunno how do you measure the "best dribbler", but I know one thing, dribble is only important when you stop dribbling when you do something else (Passing, kicking). Then the best dribbler is the one who dribble and then is able to deliver something. Far from the others then is Ronaldinho, since he have a good kicker and passing. Then Robinho.
This if we only keep those three, because Rivaldo and Ronaldo are quite good in their own style (the short dribles to the kicks of Rivaldo and the explosive speed dribbles of Ronaldo)

I don't know about that, Robinho creates ALOT for Santos, there's no denying in that. (He hasn't scored a goal this year yet and nobody would argue that he hasn't performed, therefore he has created.)

I agree with JCamilo of the importance of what U do with the ball
after the dribble.
Our previous discussion concerning Denilson pinpoints this

Denilson is a great entertainer and tactical timewaster
once in a while he delivers a nice pass or scores two goals when he feels like it.

On my list of productive dribblers, he is quite low

I agree with U that Robinho is on top at the moment

In selecao I would put Ronaldinho,Roberto Carlos,Rivaldo,Ronaldo,Ze Roberto,Amoroso
Juninho Paulista in front

Gil,Paulinho,Diego also among others

But as entertainer Denilson is a huge inspiration
for a while and fun to watch
so as long as we win I won´t argue more about him
but I guess with him we win 2-0
but without him 4-0 :)

sorry for nagging

MAN, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! roberto carlos is on top of your list... the guy cannot control the ball right. he doesn't play like a true brazilian junior, athirson and felipe dribble better than roberto carlos

sorry for nagging

Er, it is no coincidence that a succession of tecnico's have picked Roberto Carlos a total of 94 times for the best team and most demanding publico in the world you know. An unfair prediction: Athirson and Felipe - and I like them both - will not go on to achieve what RC has in his career.

The thread is about dribbling, not how productive the player is. Roberto carlos has no rythm whatsoever, he's stiff as a rock, even I may be able to dribble better then he can. Juninho, Amoroso, and Rivaldo aren't dribblers either. I'm talking about pure entertainment. Its between Ronaldinho, Robinho, Denilson, Gil, Ronaldo, and Djalminha. I think these 6 are the most entertaining. I'd love to see a match where all 6 of them are on the pitch.

I see what U mean
but I was just filling in on JCamilo´s remark
which I totally agree with

I liked Djalminha too
but I´m afraid he´s way past now

We agree that Robinho right now is on top
Great combination of entertainment and productivity

Roberto Carlos wasn´t on top of my list, Brazil_forever,
he do carries the ball brilliantly, cruising passed many
opponents from behind
not trixing with the ball
not dribbling for entertainment
thats true

So ? Who said he is not a good creator ? He have a nice passe and that is way i said he come before Denilson.
I said he is behind Ronaldinho, hence Ronaldinho is much more better when Kicking comes on and have a better pass than him.
There is nothing to reduce Robinho, but It is ridiculous to forget that Ronaldinho is a much more complete player than the other two.

In my opinion Ronaldinho and Robinho are the two most entertaining players in Brasilian football right now, and believe it or not, they're very objective and create alot for the team, not to mention they can decice the game in one play; hence the England match which was decided in two plays by the same player.

I still feel we can talk about which player is best on a specific skill
in this particular case the dribbling
What is dribbling, what specific action do we mean?
I think of it as the movement carrying the ball passed an opponent
not just outrunning but using the ball control and an action of some sort to trick the opponent
And within this category one can evaluate
effectiveness and entertainment
then one also can talk about variation
using different type of dribbling styles
some players use speed, short touches of ball and then run passed
not really waiting to lure the opponent
which some do for the fun of it,being cheeky
some are slow but still effective by using body moves
some use swift moves and turns
some use foot trix such as overstep for ex Ronaldo
some use ball movement, for ex dragging the ball like Zidane

Summing up one can talk about
using body/feet/ball movement
combined with speed, swiftness or force/body to hold off opponent
and go passed

maybe I´ve forgotten some or lots of aspects since dribbling is a very difficult area to sort out
but I just felt like making an attempt, hope U don´t feel like I´m wasting your time...

Maybe U now understand why my name is Dribble&Trix :)
and why I love Brazilian football
and especially
Garrincha,Robinho,Ronaldinho etc etc

Djalminha these days hardly dribbles at all. He mainly opts for the creative passing (and provocative penalty shooting)

Denilson gets my vote for best pure dribbler. He may waste chances or loose the ball sometimes but the boy is a joy to watch. He is an artist. Leonardo (ex PSG, Sao Paolo) and Branco (Claudio) are/were the best productive dribblers for me as they hardly ever lose the ball as a result of senseless dribbling. I have not seen Robinho. RC has one long dribble that when combined with his speed is great to wwatch but that's as far as it goes when it comes to dribbling. Nothing taken from the Ronaldos.

For me, it's between Robinho and Denilson. Both are amazing individual dribblers and are alot alike. They usually draw alot of players to try and take the ball away from them but they just play tricks and get passed their defender. They really dance samba on the pitch and their dribbling skills are very rare. What they do with a football is amazing. So, alot of credit to both of them.

It's like a tie so the tie-breaker would have to be which one is the more effective player. Robinho and Denilson dribble the same but Robinho is actually effective, doesn't lose the ball as much and doesn't over-do it.
