VATRENI - YOUR EXPECTATION for our NT in BRAZIL

Hi, guys, I just wanted to start a new thread/pick your brains about what you would expect from our NT in Brazil? Would you be happy to reach the next round, or are your expectation far higher than that?
I hoped we would get an easier path to the latter stages but it looks likely that our group will face the winner or runner up of group B which is Spain or Holland-both finalists in the last WC so its going to be incredibly tough-but somehow we always managed to play well against the top teams like Germany and even Holland so there is hope - AJMOOOO NEMA PREDAJE!

I think getting passed the group stages would be a success.

But if our most in form players like Modric, Rakitic, Mandzukic play really well and we pass the group stage and get Holland who are pretty young? well you never know. TO THE FINALS :musik::D

Australia being in the group is probably going to save the Dutch from another Euro 2012-type performance. I unfortunately see Australia losing all three games. Back to the Dutch, this is not the best generation of players at the moment and their Eredivise defenders might have a hell of a time against Chile :pp

Also in general I think South American sides will do well in this tournament, 5 should make it past the group stages and I won't be shocked if Ecuador do too. Uruguay is a lot like Croatia where in qualifiers they sleepwalk through but tend to wake up in the actual tournament

Don't know what to expect, but just hope for the best and obviously have knots in my stomach every minute of every game... Once we exit the tournament, I stop watching.

Currently my prediction is:
The same 4-6 point range but I think we will go through to Ro16. We have many key plays in fine form, some in the form of their lives. Everything is lining up except for the schedule (no Mario for game 1, Cameroon in the Jungle, and Mexico who gets 1 extra days rest) and of course no Simunic. In the end it comes down to the fact that we have too much talent and guys in top form to not make it out of the group and give me Spain or Holland (they won't win Group B though, I don't even have them in 2nd in B) in Ro16 and I think we move on to Quarter Finals, if it's Chile then I think it may be too much.

How amazing though would it be to somehow draw/beat Brasil and then beat Spain in Ro16, the confidence of the guys would be ridiculously high!

Well, I think Hrvatska have all to go at least pass group stage, maybe even go to quarter-finals,who knows?Don't forget that game against Spain at Euro 2012,were they had a clear chance of winning.Hrvatska is not some underdog and shouldn't feel like one!I really believe this team can surprise us, or at the very least play well enough to make an impression...

I am just happy that we qualified given how badly we were looking at the end of Stimac's run as Izbornik. Anything that this squad does in the WC is just gravy IMO.

Now do i think we will get out of this group? If i was 100% confident about who plays as a the DM beside Modric, I would be confident of us getting out of the group. But since no one has really claimed that spot, I am less sure and could see us going out in the group stages. So I feel that our current changes are about 40%-45% of getting through right now. Especially given that Males still looked a bit green against the Swiss. But will need to see what we look like in the last 2 friendlies before i make a final call( and see how Mexico and Cameron look prior to the WC).

I wonder if we should play without a defensive mid fielder as our choices all seem flawed (Radosevic barely played, Vuk's to clumsy-Ademi and Males aren't experienced enough to be thrown into the deep vs Brazil) and opt for a more unconventional route utilizing Badelj and Modric as our 2 anchor players in mid field and having Raketa sit in front of them-Kovacic on the left and Ilicevic on the right. What's the point of forcing a formation that isn't suited to our players abilities? I do think that Modra has improved a lot defensively and Badelj could do a decent job after 2 seasons with HSV!

I don't think kovac is going to use a DM as we don't have a good one right now. Vuk is not the player he was and I never really rated him to be honest. Radosevic has looked good for the under 21 but he never plays for his club so forget about him. I have not seen males enough bit from everything I've read about him his form has dipped dramatically since his Iceland call up. I think our best option are Modric and Rakitic together as central mids. Both have a good work rate and are sound defensively. They could take turns on who goes foward while the other sits back. As the article said are biggest weaknesses are a lack of a true DM leftback and wingers that are in form. Hopefully Ilicevic can keep up his good form of the last 2 games as we need either perisic or Ilicevic to pick it up before Brazil. I believe Olic will be the left winger when Mandzukic comes back.

Southampton's Dejan Lovren has an opening game against the hosts Brazil to look forward too - and he is excited by the prospect.

"We've got a difficult group, but the opening match of the World Cup against Brazil will be spectacular. I can't wait!" the Croatian defender said.

My wife just came back from Mexico City and she said world cup stuff being sold everywhere... she was in a conversation with a few Mexicans and when she told them she roots for Croatia they went on what an honour it is that Croatia gets to kick off the tournament with hosts Brazil and the respect they had for our NT.

Gentlemen. Let's step back and take a look at our team. Sure we have some weaknesses like the lack of a true DM and wingers. However, we have several world class players and many others that are high quality. Since Euro 2012, Mandzukic has been one of the best strikers in Germany. It's hard to believe, but Modric has gotten even better since 2012 as know he is one of the best midfielders in the world. I never expected it, but Raketic has turned into a first class player. If we didn't have the previous mentioned weaknesses, we would be the most dangerous team in the world!

IMO, we were unlucky too draw both Spain and Italy in 2012. We could have beaten both of them. Instead, we barely lost to Spain and we tied the Italians. Both teams made to finals. I believe that with Niko Kovac as coach, our team will be ready for all of our group matches. I believe we can beat any team if we play our game. Therefore, I think we should get passed the group stage and face either Chile or Spain. Personally, I would love to get another crack at Spain. I think after this tournament is over, Croatia will regain the respect that we lost while Stimac was in charge.

I can barely wait for the opening match against Brazil. It will be exciting.

The game in manaus will be tough for your team is very hot and warm there and the cameroon players aré more suited to play in this kind of weather.

Croatia really needs to keep the possesion in this game, this is the best way to play otherwise they will die at hall time.
