Can't find the results anywhere, PFL site not updated yet, I assume CSKA have probably lost but it's the hope that is killing me!

Actually if you look thru the comments you can see someone posted a 2:1 result. CSKA lost.
Oh God I hope not. It would be the second season in a row CSKA will have exited the competition to a team in the 2nd league.

I have been asked to serve an election observer again on September 30th and I think I will go to Ukraine and do it - and I notice while I am there CSKA are playing Dnister Ovidiopol, let's hope I can bring them some luck, they hardly ever lose when I go and watch them. The team is in meltdown - played 5 lost 5 if that score is correct.

The score is correct, CSKA lost 1-2. That was prolly the only real surprise of the Cup gameday. Then, was it? CSKA needs an injection immediately. :undecide:

It was no surprise I'm afraid.

Those 2 finals seem a long time ago now.

In terms of their biggest games - I was at both CSKA's cup finals (vs Dynamo in 1998 with a missed penalty and the extra-time heartbreak against Shakhtar in 2001) plus all their games in the UEFA Cup both at home and away (FK Jokerit 2-0 2-0, Crvena Zvezda 3-2 0-0, Club Brugges 0-2 0-5) plus the Kiev games vs Cork City (2-0) and Lokomotiv Moscow (0-2).

Obviously I was a regular visitor to CSKA Stadium and sometimes would go to places like Ternopil and Dnipropetrovsk to watch them. I went to both legs of the cup quarter-final when they lost on penalties to Dnipro.

It was a great period watching a team who, despite having almost no supporters except a handful of dedicated people who are still watching them to this day, really were a good side and many of the players have gone on to better things. I'll never forget names like Kirlyk, Kostyshin, Kosyrin, Zakarliuka, Annenkov, Reva, Tkachenko, Kerzonenko, Polishchuk - these are my Ukrainian football heros.

From what I remember, Andriy Shevchenko put Dynamo in front 2 minutes before the game was actually due to kick off!!! I don't know why it started a few minutes early, perhaps the stadium clock was wrong.

Shevchenko scored again after about half an hour to make it 2-0 and it appeared that the game was over.

However, after an hour CSKA were awarded a penalty and, unfortunately, Oleiynik missed from the spot. Three minutes later Novohatskiy scored for CSKA and it was game on. But, Dynamo defended well and just about deserved their 2-1 win.

The teams were:

DYNAMO: Shovkovskiy, Kiriukhin, Gerasimenko (Kalitvintsev 63), Holovko, Vaschuk, Husyn (Mihailenko 66), Kaladze, Kardash (Radchenko 89), Kosovskiy, Shevchenko, Rebrov.

CSKA: Reva, Levchenko, Balatskiy (Ilchenko 63), Balitsky, Semchuk, Ulyanitskiy, Gogil (Novohatskiy 46), Kripak, Gorodov, Oleiynik, Tskmeistruk.

Goals: Shevchenko (2,33), Novohatskiy (46)

Attendance: 42,700

Trainers: Valery Lobanovsky (Dynamo), Vladimir Bessonov (CSKA)

It was the beginning of a great era for CSKA under Bessonov then Kuznetsov.
