So form the players I know Yaremchuk and Radchenko are huge talents for this team and a killer striking pair. Goal-tending should be solid, Pikivka's performance against Scotland was one of the best goal-tending performances I've seen from any Ukrainian goalie at any level. But the most noticeable thing is probably the omission of Sobol , He is the captain and future LB for Shakhtar and the NT and probably the best in Ukraine of all footballers born in 1995 or later. Don't understand why he wasn't called. Maybe someone can tell me.

Good news on the U19 front. El capitano Eduard Sobol will be joining the U 19 Euro squad, after the preseason with Shakhtar, meaning that we should now have the strongest squad possible (at least I trust Petrakov) . No excuses, top 3 in the group is a must (even though I'm completely ignorant of the strength of the opposition). Further good news is that the U 19 team (in preparation) beat Dynamo-2 in 2 friendlies. Not a great accomplishment but non the less a confidence booster.

A good point for the team. Not a convincing performance, but Serbia were technically much better, they clearly looked more experienced and are well coached. Not too disappointed with Ukraine, They were out played in 3 out of the 4 last competitive matches and still came away with a 2-2-0 record. With that kind of attitude I believe we can grab points of Bulgaria and then Germany. I'm hoping to see Radchenko play, left out of the squad despite being our top scorer in qualifying, I feel that him and Yaremchuk would be great up front.

Ukraine has officially qualified for the U 20 world cup next year. And are still trying to reach the semi's in this Euro..Well done to them

congrats

ukraine seems to do well in the youth but than this players don't prove themselves at senior level.
This this seems to be the case, Garmash is the only one to reach a high level of football from our 2009 championship U 19 squad. And our top players from the 2006 U 21 final squad haven't really become anything special. Pyatov is probably the most consistent from that squad.

This is a problem that goes deep into the system.

Ukraine lost to Germany 2-0 in the Final group game finished with 4 points behind Germany's 7 and Serbia's 5.

Didn't know what do expect but they did make the U 20 world cup, not bad.

Hopefully the boys aren't to disappointed, they must realize that performances at the U 19 national level don't really mean anything. Hopefully they keep working hard and don't add their names to the long list of flops that played at the last U 19 euro for us.

Big win for Ukraine u21s today. 2-0 vs Switzerland in a crucial qualifier guarantees 2nd place and a place in the next stage of qualifying, which will be a two-legged play-off. I know, Ukraine are rubbish in play-offs but it's possible if the draw's kind. Good to beat Switzerland twice in the group and be one of the best 4 runners up.

Yes very important win, looked like the better team all game, I feel confident that whoever this team gets in the playoff they could pull it off, upset or not. It's also a surprisingly deep U21 team, A hand full of key players left out of the starting line or injured but the team was not affected at all.

Now that club football is over.. or almost I'm wondering if any of you guys are going to pay attention to the Under 20 world cup. We seem to have a decent team, Burda, Chumak, Besydin, Sobol, Kovalenko and even Luchkevych who is probably on his way to New Zeland right now.

I will be interested to see how some of the best Young footballers of the UPL stack up against the rest of the world.

I watched the 1st half, most definitely superior to New Zealand. Really interesting attacking players for us just so damn wasteful in the final 3rd,they make bad decisions a lot. Just really poor finishing product in the final 3rd. Crazy they only drew 0-0.

That's what dvr is for buddy! I'm very much looking forward to the U.S. game.

We smashed Myanmar 6-0, all of the goals coming in the 2nd half after Luchkevich made his debut :proud:

Kovalenko 2 goals & 2 assists
Luchkevish 1 goal & 1 assist in 45 minutes. Should have had 2 but his 1st goal my god :eekani:

U.S. beating New Zealand too so advancing from the group looking very likely now. I'm looking forward to the U.S. game to get a feel for how good we actually are, our first 2 opponents have been cake.

I watched the Second half of their game with Myanmar. I was very impressed with Luchkevych, His football IQ is much higher then probably most players in this tournament. Got in good positions, made excellent runs (I didn't realize how fast he was, but it looked like Konoplyanka speed), and that finish was a brilliant idea.

3-0 vs the USA, what a result! Only seen the goals, but all 3 of Kovalenko's hat-trick were quality! Top scorer in the tournament at the moment. It seems like based on what I've seen and heard about him, he could get to a really good level, but is that level Yarmolenko/Konoplyanka or Shevchenko? What do you guys think? The NT's been crying out for a no10 for ages, so here's hoping..

I know they missed a penalty, but 3-0, it's still a great result, along with first place. I think I recall you Footy saying that the US were the favourites, so even better. Were you happy with that outcome?

And maybe that will teach the US not to give the Ukrainian army weapons to fight against Russia :)

Yea great result, they absolutely throttled them. All the talk coming in was of Gedion Zelalem and Emerson Hyndman, these kids still have a long way to go, Ukraine bullied them every which way.

Kovalenko seems a little slow but he's smart, with Garmash in limbo we really need a classy attacking mid to develop. Hopefully its him.

3-0 Of-course a really important win as we will now face a 3rd place team in the first knockout round. My thoughts on the game....Complete tactical superiority, I don't know how good this USA team is but Ukraine played like the more experience team (which they are), They attacked the USA weak spots and didn't hold back the pressure. Defensively Ukraine are perfect (0 conceded) and and if they are destined to go far in this tournament its because they can defend individually and collectively. This game will no doubt build confidence going forward.

Diogo..Kovalenko, Very good technique on all three finished, In my opinion I think at 19 years he might be better then Konoplyanka/Yarmolenko at that age. That being said it all depends on how he does with Shakhtar. Yarmola and Kono where first team and NT material by 21. So I really hope he becomes great someday.
5 or 6 of Ukraine's players were on loan and got about 10 games of true top flight experience. Luchkevich is a down right seasoned veteran. All of U.S. players still in reserves and it showed, Ukraine just physically & technically dominated them.

I remember Konoplyanka at 19, he was extremely good already, I'm not sure Kovalenko is better at this stage apart from goal scoring and maybe decision making.

Nonsense. Their equaliser should have been disallowed. What happened with the Burda disallowed goal? I didn't see that. They were better in extra-time though and had more physically, created a few chances and could have easily nicked it. Senegal were a good side though, and they came 3rd in a group with Portugal and Colombia which probably shows they weren't 3rd because of playing badly. As for the penalties, Chumak didn't look confident and then once he missed everyone else mentally crumbled, and looked mentally beaten before it was even over sadly.

Overall there are some good players in this team who could progress to the full NT, and hopefully they've gained a lot from this tournament.
