Last season was a disaster, I hope the boys are ready to make amends. :)

Cristiano will be banned from this game because of this:

But on the positive side, Scholesy and Rooney will be back, I'm not sure about Heinze and Vidic yet.

Probable line-up:

-------------VDS---------------
Neville--Ferdinand--Brown---Evra-
Park--Carrick---Scholes--Giggs--
-----------Rooney---------------
---------------Saha-------------

I predict we'll win this game 3-0, Saha, Rooney and Scholes with the goals.

I reckon a 2-0 win would be a fair prediction.

After all the disappointments lately regarding transfers, a sweet victory over Celtic would just help a little.

well the reserves beat them fairly convincingly so the big boys should too
Yes, but the problem with that theory is that there will be 1 or 2 players at a maximum from the Celtic side that your reserves beat in pre-season playing in this game, plus we've signed Gravesen and Vennegoor of Hesselink since then too.

The fact that this game actually means something will ensure that it's a lot more competitive anyway. Celtic to sneak a cheeky 2-1 victory. ;)

I didn't realise that C. Ronaldo was banned too, that's a nice boost for us for sure.

There's no doubting the talent of Nakamura, however I wonder how he'll cope with the speed of closing down from the Utd players when he's in possession.

Still, I wait with anticipation of what he can do, a player I just love to watch, he radiates class no matter what he does.

Looking at the match more broadly, it's hard to go past a Utd victory, unless they're still haunted by last season and their pathetic European face persists, but I doubt they can give a repeat performance of 2005/6, so low they sunk.

2-0 United.

Balde and Maloney out of date with Red Devils

TIME appears to finally have beaten Bobo Balde and Shaun Maloney in their race to be ready for Celtic's opening Champions League game against Manchester United a week tonight.

The giant Guinean defender has been out since April 5 with a stomach injury which required surgery within days of him reporting back to the club for pre-season training.

And Player of the Year Maloney has also been under the knife when a hernia halted his preparation for the season after just one game on their American tour in July.

Balde is back training as he puts in what is effectively a pre-season, while Maloney has stepped up his rehabilitation and is now concentrating on running to get his fitness levels up to the level required for him to get back into action on the pitch.

But neither was considered ready for yesterday's reserve game against Inverness - won by two superb goals from Jim O'Brien.

And with only Saturday's tough SPL game at Aberdeen between now and travelling to Old Trafford next week, their battle to be involved is almost certainly lost.

WE'LL SAVE OUR STARS FOR ARSENAL

SIR ALEX FERGUSON is expected to rest some of his stars for the Battle of Britain clash with Celtic.

The Manchester United boss geared up for Wednesday night's mouth-watering Champions League opener with a 1-0 win over Spurs - a fourth consecutive top-flight victory.

It's the best start United have made to a Premiership campaign and Fergie hopes to make it a perfect five out of five at home to bitter rivals Arsenal on Sunday.

Victory over the Gunners will see United take a13-point lead over Arsene Wenger's men and with this massive clash looming the manager is not certain to send out a full-strength team against Scotland champions. With winger Cristiano Ronaldo banned, Ferguson has a number of options including star man Wayne Rooney, available again after domestic and international suspensions.

But Celtic and Manchester United legend Pat Crerand, a PR ambassador at Old Trafford and friend of Ferguson, insists the manager will select his side with one eye on the crunch with Arsenal.

Crerand said: "It's a hard week for United. Alex is going to have the problem of what sort of team to pick.

"Between Spurs, Celtic and Arsenal it's a big week and three important games and there's the possibility he will rest players against Celtic.

"There has to be a question mark over Rooney. Will he play for the 90 minutes? I'm not so sure. The boss will look at this from the point of view that if he plays him against Arsenal there's more chance of him pulling a muscle or doing something daft if he has not played for a while competitively.

"For that reason he might only look at playing him for part of the Celtic game. I don't think he'll play all of it."

Crerand believes Celtic manager Gordon Strachan will get a warm welcome from the Old Trafford fans despite his long-running feud with Ferguson.

Strachan is still fondly remembered by the United fans from his playing days at the club and Crerand - a local hero himself after helping United to the European Cup in 1968 - said: "The fans will be pleased to see him.

"I don't know about Gordon and Alex. I only know what Alex wrote in his book.

"There's something there and I'm not so sure it's been resolved but Alex can fall out with someone and 10 minutes later be your pal again. That's a Glasgow thing!

"The fans loved Gordon as a player and he'll get a great reception when he brings Celtic down."

Yes, we're very shit.

Fergie should play his reserve team, it won't make any difference anyway - an easy 3 points is in the bag. :)
