Qualified 2 rounds ago but a point still needed to secure top spot in the group, 8 defenders out injured(Vidic, Rio, Brown, Neville, Fabio, Rafael, Evans and O'Shea). So we'll probably go with Carrick at centre half again with hopefully Vidic returning from the flu.

I don't think he could go with the kids if he wanted to in this one because of injuries and the back four are going to need protecting. I think Gibson will get a start. I expect Berb to start as well. And I wouldn't be surprised at one of Nani or Obertan to start.

Kus

Fletch
Carrick
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Gibson
Anderson
Nani/Obertan/Park

Rooney
Berbatov

I'd go with that but I think he'll go 4-5-1 maybe even with Valencia in the middle, Rooney on the left and Berb up top. I wouldn't expect Giggs and Scholes to play given their appearances on Saturday plus we've got a City-sized-game against Villa on Saturday.

Hopefully that's enough to secure a draw. I know we should be going there for the win but it's going to be really tough with Carrick and Vidic up against Dzeko and Grafite, who I'll presume they'll go with.

2-2.

Just hope we can get some bodies back in time for Villa after this one.

It depends on the formation.

I could see a 4-4-2 with Owen and Berbs up top with Rooney on the left, but that centre of defence needs protecting so I think he'll go with a three, and if that's the case I don't see Owen starting up top.

I really hope we don't fcuk about with this game because it's gone from a stroll to a worry about finishing 2nd.

I'd snatch your hand off if I was offered a draw right now.

Would start this team and I think it actually be very close to what Sir Alex picks;

Fletcher
Carrick
Vidic/De Laet
Evra

Park
Scholes
Anderson
Nani

Owen
Berbatov
---

Definitely see the 2 strikers starting, midfield is more of a question mark. In any case I hope we rest Valencia and Rooney for the Villa game.

Its strange to see our best CM (Fletch + carrick) playing as defenders!....

1-1 (Berba with the goal).

Thank fcuk we don't go there needing anything.

Can't see us winning but it should be a good open game.

Let's hope CSKA can do Besiktas so we finish top.

Manchester United's injury crisis has worsened with the news defender Nemanja Vidic will miss their Champions League tie at Wolfsburg on Tuesday.

The Serb has a flu bug and been left at home, with United already through to the last 16 of the tournament.

Vidic joins Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Gary Neville, Rafael da Silva, Fabio da Silva, Johnny Evans and John O'Shea on the sidelines for United.

Michael Carrick will play at centre-back, possibly with Darren Fletcher.

Fletcher was expected to fill in at right-back but could now be forced to move to the centre following Vidic's withdrawal from the squad, although Patrice Evra could be another option.

United had hoped Vidic would have recovered from the flu bug that kept him out of Saturday's win at West Ham, but he failed to make the flight to Germany.

Oliver Gill, son of chief executive David, Magnus Eikrem, Cameron Stewart, Matt James and Oliver Norwood are all unfamiliar faces who were included in United's 19-man squad.

United have already booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages but still need a point to be sure of finishing top of the group, which would theoretically give them an easier tie in the next round.

Midfielder Paul Scholes said: "We want to win the game and finish top of the group.

"How much difference that makes to who we get in the next round, I am not too sure. There are lots of good teams at that stage of the tournament."

Central mid field pair to central defensive pair!!!

Central mid field pair to central defensive pair!!!
I am sure they´ll do a very good job.
My 11 names from that:
Foster
Fletcher
Gill
Carrick
Evra
Valencia
Scholes
Gibson
Anderson
Owen
Welbeck

I won´t be surprised if Park is starting instead of Valencia. Would like to see Nani in the starting 11 , but I do really not expect this. Is Macheda injured or ill or why didnt he travel?

btw...Vidic15: Wolfsburg winning 2-0 or 3-1 or higher and I think they are winning the group.

If Wolfsburg win and they better or equal 2-1 or at OT then they win the group because they'd have a better head-to-head over us (if they better the 2-1) or they'd have a better GD than us if they match the 2-1.

Plus they have a better head-to-head with CSKA.

Wolfsburg 3-1 CSKA
CSKA 2-1 Wolfsburg

4-3 agg.

So even if CSKA win they will have to rely on us to get a result in Germany.

So..If we draw and CSKA win, we top the group and CSKA come second. If we win and CSKA draw, again we top the group and CSKA come second.

If both games are drawn then obviously we top the group with Wolfsburg coming second.

If Besiktas win and better their 2-1 reverse at CSKA then CSKA go out of Europe and Besiktas join Liverpool.

:relieved:... I'm going for a brew...

has Park ever played as defender?! Please NO. :scared:

anyway, the regulations can be of importance if we lose this. The table so far is like this:
United 10 pts
Wolfsburg 7 pts
CSKA Moskva 7 pts
Beşiktaş 4 pts

Wolfsburg winning and CSKA winnig means 3 teams with 10 points. Then the regulations say the following:

7.06 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question
c) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question;
d) superior goal difference from all group matches played
e) higher number of goals scored
f) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see paragraph 9.02)

Phew, how complicated.

Holy shit, just saw that Brown and De Laet didn't travel. I can't wait to see Gill get his start. :D I'm going for a 5 all draw in this one, it's certainly going to be quite open.

Why the hell was Cameron Stewart selected to fly over the likes of Corry Evans or even Reece Brown and Scott Wooton?
