As suggested in the Milan forum, there should be a tribute thread in the World Football forum for one of the greatest players in history, Paolo Maldini. He has just two more matches left in his entire career, which began at Milan in 1985 and will finish in Milan in 2009. It's an incredible story for an incredible player, and it will be a very emotional farewell for the legendary defender.

This weekend will be his last match at the San Siro against Roma, and the following week will be his absolute last against Fiorentina. If you get the chance, whether you like Milan or not, whether you like the Serie A or not, make sure you watch these last two games, as they will be the end of an absolutely magical career.

I will leave all the stats and stories to the rest of you, so feel free to add your comments, congratulations, praise, anecdotes, etc...

Shame he is retiring, but he had to sooner or later, and he is finishing, what has been, a tremendous career.

The man is a legend, admirable, loyal and most important of all, a great sportsman.

Incredible player, a local boy and a loyal honest servant to his home town club. It's quite an astonishing career, considering many on here weren't even born when he made his debut back in 1985.

He's a great sportsman, he's a legend and above all he is a winner.

He was in shambles against Udinese...:(

Still I'd take a 50 yr old Maldini any day over Molinaro. :pp

Jokes aside, without a doubt, a Legendary (with a capital L) footballer. :)

In his prime, I never saw someone run so much and work so hard in defense. Simply one of the best in the world.

Nesta is the most talented defender of his generation.

Maldini is not just a legend of AC Milan he's a Legend of football. A perfect footballer, talented, a true professional, good looking, and loads of trophies to go with it all. Maldini reached football heaven. He'll be one of those rare footballers who'll never look back with any regrets. What more could he want?

The one regret he'll probably feel more than anything is his retirement from international football after the 2002 WC. The only bleep in his illustrious career is that he didn't win anything with the Azzuri.

Got ticket for his last match in San Siro, bar some testimonial in a year or so, and some charity match in 10 years where every other player has a beer belly, and Paolo looks like he's still playing.

We were graced to witnessed a God on the field during our time.

Sempre Paolo.
