A new bid for Fabio Cannavaro has been made by Manchester United, according to reports today. The Italian international is wanted to boost the fragile Reds defence and the latest offer is said to be between £20m and £30m. This summer alone the Parma captain had turned down interest from Juventus, Lazio, Roma and Real Madrid.

BTW...i think you should open a new sticky thread with all the rumours like this. We have that and it seems to work at Inter forum.

Good point Tritolo about making a sticky thread for all rumours.

About the rumor, its just utter BS if you ask me.UTD has already said that they are unlikely to bring in any new players this season and Fergie seems tothink that the current defense is strong enough for his CL charge.Lets hope so:nervous:It would be helpful if you could put up a link from where you got this piece of news. But I wouldn't raise my hope about the transfer going thru.

Because Parma sucks.

United willing to pay £35 million for Cannavaro

Manchester United are prepared to pay Parma AC £35 million for Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro.

Parma beat off interest from AS Roma and SS Lazio throughout the summer for their star centre back but now United are willing to meet every cash demand made by the player and his club to pair the centre back with young England defender Wes Brown and French veteran Laurent Blanc.

The move for Cannavaro has been building for the past two years and United have constantly monitored the young Neopolitan's future with Parma.

United also want AS Roma coach Fabio Capello as their new manager and Capello was desperate for his club to sign Cannavaro in June.

Talks broke down after a £35 million move was agreed and the price suddenly raised which angered Roma president Franco Sensi.

Lazio then went into protracted attempts to lure Cannavaro to them without success.

The player saw his defensive partner Lilian Thuram leave Parma for Juventus in the summer and Juventus are also interested in Cannavaro. They would rival any bid from United but Parma are winning to hand all of their best defenders to Juve after the sale of Thuram and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign Thuram for the English champions but the United board ruled the 29 year old player as too expensive but Cannavaro is the right age to command a British record transfer fee.

Ferguson wants to strengthen a defence which has been conceding large numbers of goals in the Premiership.

A report on planetfootball.com says that a bid for $36million has been rejected by Parma. It staes that UTD were looking for a defender to plug the gaps in defense and UTD made a solid bid for Canna.

All this is just crap and just a story to create a storm in the dull transfer market,I guess:rolleyes:

it would be a great pick up for you. i personally couldn't see him leave italy, he would choose Lazio, Milan, Juve, Inter or Roma.

however, you never know, money talks and bull**** walks.

i think maybe Lazio might buy him cuz their are rumours flying around of Nesta joining juve. if u wanna read rumours, the juve forum is full of them. they are funny as well, its worth the read, trust me.

I thought Nest was on his way to Real:confused:  These rumors are flying about in all directions and a few specific clubs seem to attract more attention than others. So the papers just attach the name of these clubs with the players just to increaese their demand or their value.

Apparently Nesta is definatly going to go to Real M at the end of this season...so the reports say anyway but until the guy has more than a 'gentlemans agreement' then I ain't buying it:(

I thought that Hoffland was all linned up and was coming at the end of the season:confused:

This is not rumour, but i put it here, because i dont want to open a new thread on this.

Former Inter defender Giuseppe Bergomi spoke about the shipping out of Jaap Stam from Manchester United and the addition of Laurent Blanc. "Everyone was surprised when United signed Blanc. It had "mistake" written all over it. You cannot sell a player like Stam and replace him with Blanc. The Frenchman is a fantastic player, but he's old now."

United have conceded fourteen goals since the addition of Laurent Blanc in their central defense.

Till now,the sale of Stam seems to be the a big mistake:( I won't try to hide behind excuses and say that the sale didn't hurt as at all.Blanc till now has been unable to adjust into this side and also he has failed to deliver what fergie was looking for him,i.e,Leadership.

Fergie brought Blanc to Old Trafford with the hope that he would take charge at the back and guide players like Brown and organize the back four.He has failed to do that at all and uptil now he has yet to impress consistently. He did have a couple of good matches like against Lille and Everton but some very bad ones. This kind of inconsistency from him as well as lack of communication with the other players in the defense has really made his signing look like a huge mistake:( :depress: :depress:

Stam and Blanc

Blanc was a mistake if he doesn't teach Brown. He's obviously lost a half step and all the heart in the world will not make up for that. I've followed Inter over the years and although he was adequate he was slightly over rated. He's fantastic fopr the French league but merely adequate for Italy and the EPL. Brown needs time to develop in the role. Although he looks very shaky at times he needs games to get an attitude in the back- the same attitude that made Stam a formidable force in the back. As for Stam I didn't think he was looking very good this year either. As for the rumours of all the Italians coming I doubt it. Typically the EPL gets former super stars looking to keep a great pay cheque or youngsters who know they couldn't make it in Italy. If Cannavaro or Nesta come I would clearly view that as a shift in the balance of power between the Serie and the EPL. As things stand for the Champions League UTD cannot give up stupid goals. Barthez needs a good talking to.

ManU intrested in FCPorto J.Costa(MR.Defence)

Manchester United are intrested in getting Jeorge Costa a solid defenceman and Portugal International from FCPorto, the only thing is Lazio are also very intrested and J.Costa wich has not played in Portos last 5 games because of a feud with the coach might be put in the transfer market, this is not the first time ManU has been intrested in him, they really wanted to get him in the summer, but porto wanted alot of money and they just might be willing now to shell it out because Blanc has not filled the hole in defence and ManU have a bad defence and need to solve it fast and JC is the man he is rock solid even at 30 years old he demends respect on the pitch and gets it.(december signing;) )

A lot depends on the asking price selecao. If Porto asks a lot for this player than UTD wont go after him specially after Peter Kenyon has said that with the arrival of Blanc the transfer market is closed as far as UTD is concerned. So I dont expect UTD to go out and splash money over defenders even though we could do with a couple of good ones now.:)

Inter's £100m bid for Beckham and Owen

Reports from Italy this evening claim that Inter are preparing a staggering £100m swoop to take both David Beckham and Michael Owen to the San Siro. The Nerazzurri are renowned for big spending and President Massimo Moratti is a confessed Anglophile who has great respect for the British style of play.

Both England internationals would receive a princely five-year contract worth £4m per season and the Manchester United star would also become a testimonial for Pirelli.
It’s not the first time that these two players have been linked to Serie A. Lazio currently hold first option on Owen should he decide to leave Liverpool, while Beckham has long been linked to Milan. Inter’s city rivals are said to be waiting until his contract expires at the end of this season to swoop with a free transfer.

It’s suggested that Inter would recover some of the money needed for this double deal by selling Alvaro Recoba to Manchester United and finally accepting Juve’s insistent offers for Christian Vieri.

The Uruguayan is currently banned from club football until the end of this month for registering with a fake passport. Vieri’s on-again, off-again move to the Bianconeri was the transfer story of the summer before Moratti put a stop to the negotiations.

Tritolo thanks for keeping us updated on these strange stories;) :) :) I mean in one single report the site is talking about the transfer of 5 top class players:eek:  Highly unlikely that Becks will leave us next season and I expect him to sign the new contract this Christmas.

I also saw another report suggesting UTD might bid for Cannavaro again this January when the transfer window opens again. Now this is one transfer that I'd love to see go through:D :D

Well all these specualtions about Cannavaro's future has made the player to come out in public and deny it.In an exclusive interview to planetfootball.com,he had this to say......

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

FABIO CANNAVARO has insisted that he will not leave Parma for The Premiership, and stated that he believes rumours of a move to Manchester United have been engineered to appease Red Devils fans.
Cannavaro, who is the star-man of the Parma side and a key part of the Italian international defence, was linked strongly with a move to United in the summer and the stories are continuing to surface in the wake of a disappointing start to the season for the Gialloblu.

Indeed, it was reported on Wednesday that Sir Alex Ferguson would make a fresh bid for the 28-year-old in January, in an attempt to hand the Premiership champions' supporters a 'farewell present' ahead of his retirement.

However, in a an exclusive interview with planetfootball.com, Cannavaro insists that he is not looking to leave Ennio Tardini, and that links to England are 'invented' by the clubs involved.

"What can I say?," Cannavaro confessed. "I have been playing football and I am well aware that when a club intends to show their fans that they are trying to make changes, they often invent situations like this one.

"It is like they are saying 'we have problems, but we are trying to solve them - we want this player but his club doesn't want to sell him and this is why we cannot make things better.'
