This is great news. We finally have a team to cheer for in T.O!
I will be supporting them. It would be nice if we could bring one former Euro star like Hierro, Guardiola or Batistuta. That would be unbelievable.

There's always been a team in Toronto to cheer for, it's just the snobs who refuse to do so. And I suppose MLS won't be good enough for some as well.

Yes you can't take the Lynx serious at all. i went to their games when
they were still at varsity and it was a circus in the stadium with parents
letting kids run all over the place and the Lynx management not doing
dick all to stop them. The Hartrells (lynx Owners) are not soccer people,
they are in the entertainment business sort of like the wwe, not caring
about the on field product. The quicker the Lynx go under the better,
Toronto FC will get my support not the LYNX

Are you kidding me. Call me a snob, but I don't consider the Toronto Lynx a team to cheer for. Atleast Toronto FC will be a fully professional club, not some semi-pro team full of part time soccer players. And making a comparision between Leaf fans and Lynx fans is ubsurd.

A real fan is a fan of the game and not status and marketing and T.O is full of Euro poseurs.

Are you a joke or something? So I'm supposed to support Toronto Lynx which is not even a professional team full of part timers, soley because it's a soccer team of Toronto. Get over yourself. Yeah that's right amigo, a real fan is a fan of the game. Problem is the game your talking about has to atleast be above highschool level for people to be interested and seriously follow it. Toronto Lynx is not. I will gladly support our new team since they will be playing in an already established league which has proven itself to be half decent. The league that the Lynx play is hardly that.

Seeing as you don't follow USL then I guess you don't know much about it including how many players are able to transfer to your beloved Europe from USL.

Really? And how many of those teams are first division? :rollani:
If you think your gonna pass off that the USL is a league where the quality of players are being bought up by good European teams, excuse me while I piss myself in laughter.

I'd rather be a joke than a poseur. :)

Poseur? I was born in Spain and raised the majority of my life in Canada. My family has supported Madrid before I was brought into this world. So there goes your poseur theory. I choose to not support a team simply because it has the name Toronto in front of it. I guess my standards for soccer quality is a little higher than yours. That doesn't make me any less Canadian or any less of a fan, just more demanding of the quality of the sport I love so much.

A real (pardon the expression) fan of soccer can see beauty in the game at all levels. I suppose you think women's soccer is crap? Is Canadian soccer crap too?

The majority of your life in Canada and that is your avatar (proud to be Espanol and a Merengue). That my friend is textbook poseur :)

No I don't. I think women's soccer in Canada is actually very good. Whenever I see a Canadian women's match I always tune in and watch. I find it entertaining and players such as Sinclair and Hooper and the other girl with the pony tail (can't recall her name at the moment) but all I know is I recall seeing her take an incredible free kick last year. Anyhow the point is that women's soccer is very good in Canada. The Men's I don't think is as good. However, I was impressed with the under-20 the last few matches against Brazil. I think there are some bright stars coming through the youth teams right now.

yes of course. But it's one thing to watch a Lynx game and see the occasional nice play or pass or goal and it's another thing to go and support them and declare myself a fan when I don't truly enjoy the quality of soccer I'm watching. I can sit on a bench and watch 7 years old play and see the beauty of the sport, but doesn't mean I'm going to go out and support that team.

And you my friend are a textbook idiot. That's right I support a national team which has never won a WC, always chokes at the WC and is always labeled as the perennial underachievers of the world and I'm a poseur?

I advise you recheck the defnition of a poseur. Poseurs are the Portuguese fans that put the Brazil flag on, once Portugal is eliminated from a tournament. It's not supporting a national team that internationally has failed over and over again. That's called being a fan.

I'm done argueing. Keep watching and supporting the Lynx. Unfortunately you'll never know what real soccer is like.

Ever thought of supporting the country that has provided you a home for the majority of your life? Poseurs are people who see something they left as being more important than what they have even though the question remains why they left if it was so great.

Real soccer is the game in front of me at this moment. Not just supporting what's supposedly better.

It is truly embarassing to have so many people with Canada as a location and so few have anything Canadian for a team they follow. Would that hurt so much?

Queue entrance music: Behold the King, the King of kings.........

With Jeff chiming in this argument became to one sided, so im making another one of my returns to say.....

Saying someone of Spanish heritage is a poseur for supporting Spain seems a little off base. Expecially considering the Spain supporter in question has stated he watches Canadian womens matches whenever he can. yes, love the country that houses you, but they also say to remember your heritage. So it works both ways.

About the USL, I can see some people not getting into the teams. The soccer can be hard to watch sometimes. even the MLS can be hard to watch sometimes. Like good canadian players, Canadian Footie fans go to Europe. Dont see a problem with that.

First off guys, I support the Mendiete in this because I have a very similar life that he had (Born in Uruguay...then Montreal...then visit Uruguay...then lived there...then back to Toronto until now).

The Lynx are a joke. Just because they have "Toronto" in front does not make it the "official team". Hell, my budd team is called "Toronto Hearts", do you want to suport them too?

I couldnt have said all your posts better myself (I agree with pretty much everything you put, but im too lazy to recap it)

Joe MacCarthy, dude your blaming the wrong guys for being posers. Portuguese ppl wearing Brazil flags are posers (probably the ultimate example).
