Well, it's more than just a rumour. I know there are some threads about him from several points of view, but let's start the definitive.

In the last few days, ALL the newspapers of Barcelona are reporting that Henry could be really near Barça. The "noise" around this supposed signing is really loud lately and the French doesn't renew with Arsenal.

Today, "El Nou Esportiu", the only Catalan sports newspaper, shows this:
Image

SIGNED
-Barça have a written agreement with Henry and the club is waiting for instructions to start the negotiations with Arsenal

http://www.as.com/articulo.html?d_date=&xref=20060315dasdasftb_27&type=Tes&anchor=dasftbA00

Diario AS, talking about this news, says that the agreement exists since last summer. Txiki and Rijkaard drive the negotiations that started in March 2005.

Henry has informed David Dein about these negotiations in every moment. Unless something changes in the last moment, Henry will leave Arsenal next summer. Henry told Dein that moving to Barcelona is not a matter of money, but personal ambition.

HENRY, 15 MILLIONS
-This is the maximum price that Barça would have to pay to Arsenal, according to the FIFA regulations.

According to EMD, the signing of Henry would be an idea of Laporta.

----------

I don't know what is going to happen, but I'm starting to see Henry in blaugrana next year.

I've got to admit, I have critisised Henry but I think he would flourish at Barca, I really do.

He's starting to show signs of what he is really capable of at the highest level and I'd love to see him at Barca.

He has everything required to be there as well.

In your opinion Koeman, will it happen? Will it keep Laporta in office for another 2 years?

I'm starting to think that this will finally happen. I think that the agreement exists. IMO, the only thing that could stop it would be that Barça finally fear to have Henry, Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Messi all together. After one year with all this, I don't think this is just a silly rumour. I don't know if the price would be 10, 15 or 20. But I think that, if Henry moves (why didn't he renew with Arsenal?), he'll go to Barcelona.

About Laporta. We'll have elections next year in June, unless they finally have to do it this summer (it could be yet). Laporta would have to do really bad in this time to lose elections. I wonder if there's anyone who could even go to elections against Laporta. And all this independently of the signing of Henry.

BTW, Laporta became famous when he showed that he had an agreement with Man U to sign David Beckham... :lala: Damn, we had to go for the plan B, someone called Ronaldinho. ayayayyyyyy :lala: :howler:

I honestly don't know, it's a 50/50 situation if I ever saw one.

I can see him both at Arsenal or Barca next season, Henry has never been the type of person to "wait for things", and in that sense, he doesn't want to wait for Arsenal's youngsters to develop. He needs players like Eto'o and Ronaldinho, not Reyes and RVP, who are fantastic players but still 4 years away from peaking.

Just one thing other thing, and without wanting to turn attention to Real Madrid, Henry leaving for Barca may also make Cesc think about Madrid. I mean, Cesc doesn't want to be the one who destroys the Arsenal project, but if Henry leaves, I can see Cesc taking advantage of the situation by going through the back door.

Oh man, what a hard blow that would be for Arsenal fans, if both Cesc and Henry left just before moving into the new stadium and a new era. :depress:

If he does go and I think he will, it will be for a very large sum of money.

He recently signed a new deal if I am not mistaken so Arsenal are in the driven position, unless the agreement has already been reached.

But considering he is arguably one of the best players in the world at the moment I think it will be in the excess of 35 million EURO.

Do you think even Barca are a big enough club to have all of Eto'o, Messi, Dinho, Guily and Henry all at the same club?

No, Henry will only cost €15M thanks to the new, stupid FIFA rules.

Barca only have to buy-out his current Arsenal contract, plus taxes and a small compensation fee.

It won't total more than €15M maximum.

Well, all the reports say that he doesn't have signed anything with Arsenal, despite their huge offer. Henry's contract finishes in June 2007. As he's in the last year of contract, he could use the new regulations of FIFA to leave. BTW, this happened to Ronaldinho last year too and we had to make a new contract with him, because he could have left for "few" money this summer too.

So it's actually the opposite. Arsenal got the wrong cards. At the same time, it doesn't seem a matter of money. Henry has a big offer from Arsenal, but he would want to leave for personal ambition (in any case, Barça would pay him well too). Arsenal has been informed of all this since long ago and it seems that they wouldn't retain the player if he finally wants to leave. The relationships between Arsenal and Henry are good, because Henry and Barça would have been honest.

All this, according to the press. Anyway, I posted all this because this is not just a silly rumour. The news about this supposed agreement exist since last summer and always in similar terms.

EDIT: Sorry, the question. I have to admit that I have doubts about what Rijkaard would do with Henry, Ronnie, Eto'o and Messi. Leave Giuly out of this, I think that Ludo is in his last games in Barcelona. I think that Giuly may leave next summer, since he doesn't get many minutes since several months ago.

Well that is interesting Koeman, I asked in my last post what these new regualtions here, this could be very difficult for Arsenal then.

I didnt realise that he was coming into the last year of his contract which I also didnt realise. This puts Barca in a strong position.

Yeah, because some countries do not have buyout clauses (or these buyout clauses are excessive). Any player can denounce the contract to FIFA and they would set the price. As Henry is in his last year, that price wouldn't be high.

This article from EMD explains the situation & the FIFA regulations:

Use http://www.freetranslation.com to translate it.

I'm starting to believe that Henry will in fact wear blaugrana next season. Essentially, he can fill up either one of the forward positions so a rotation system up front should be implemented.

His contract runs out in 2007 m8, we wouldn't pay over 20. As you could've read in the starting post, he would cost Barça approx. €15 million.

I know Koeman, I get the basis of it. Very interesting though, I didnt realise this regulation was about and it makes life a lot easier for Barca to get their man.

Cole is not a problem, he is covered by Clichy..pretty much his clone!

Arsenal can't do shit to stop Cesc if he wanted to move to Real. Absolutely nothing at all.

You make it sound as if the clubs have power these days, they don't.

If Cesc says he wants to move to Real, Wenger would never keep a player that doesn't want to play for the Arsenal.

Just because he says he's flattered by the interest doesn't mean he's dying to play for you, and will force Arsenal to transfer him.

He has said that he's happy there and wants to continue.

I'm sure it's nice to feel optimistic, but it's also good to be realistic.

:pp

Anyways, also being an Arsenal fan, I wouldn't hate Henry if he moved to Barca. I know I hate Barca but I also know Henry just wants the best move for his career.

He has taken us as far as he can, and I would understand if he didn't want to wait around a few years for the younger players to develop.

I still pray he stays, but if he does move, good luck and thanks for everything Titi. :proud:
