well in this forum i wanted to know when were the moments that made you wonder if football is fixed. the moment that made you really suspicious.

here are some of the ones that stick out.

w'cup 2002, the whole korean saga and their run up to the semis along the way with dubious calls against thier opponents.

argentina's curious 6-0 win over a somewhat lacklustre peru, as argentina needed to score 4 goals to progress.

maradona's claim that the brazillian havelange didn't want argentina to win the world cup in 90, as the germans ended up winning the game on a dubious penalty

italy versus nigeria..w'cup 94, other than baggio's brilliance in that game the calls against nigeria were mind boggling.

WC 2002, 2nd round, Brazil-Belgium
5 minutes before half time Wilmots scores a perfectly legal 0-1. Referee Prendergast disallows it, tells Wilmots at half time it was a valid goal and denies everything afterwards in the press conference.

What happened to Italy and Spain that same world cup was a complete joke.

2004, Group 7 qualifier, Spain-Belgium
Ref Nielsen shouts at Belgian players in the players tunnel for still wearing their wedding ring and threatens to give them red card before start of game, walks over to Spanish players who are for some reason allowed to wear jewelry, has a chat and a laugh with them. Sends off Belgian player Deflandre after 25 minutes for no reason.

WC 1994, 2nd round, Germany-Belgium
Two players tackle Belgian Josip Weber who's about to score. No penalty given. Afterwards ref admits he made a mistake but also claims the Belgian players did for not scoring more goals than Germany :dielaugh: .

Uefa cup semi final, 1984 or something, Anderlecht-Nottingham Forrest
Forrest goal gets disallowed and Anderlecht gets penalty for no reason in dying minutes of the game. Anderlecht through to the final. Years later ref admits he was in financial problems and the Anderlecht president had promised him a good loan :D .

1981, Turone's perfecty legit goal ruled out by referee Paolo Bergamo (now designator for referees in Italy) as Roma lost out on the championship due to that very goal not standing. Everything after that is just repitition, often involving the masters of the practice, Juventus. They did it to Fiorentina around the same time, almost cheated lazio off lo scudo in 2000, hustled Inter in 98 etc etc.

Not to go far...
1. This seasons dissalowed Tottenhams goal against Man Utd in the dying minutes of the game, when it was a CLEAR goal... The shot was from almost half-way line and the United keeper spilled it while trying to catch it...
2. This years Confederation Cup... Germany-Argentina... German player got fouled - the ref gave the advantage cause the German still had the ball, which he then crossed into the box... The ball was cleared by the Argentina's defenders and the ref then gave the Germans a free-kick from which they scored... It was actually 2 days ago :/

Andorra vs Macedonia 2004 (Macedonia were favorites and lost 1-0 which was Andorra's first ever qualifer win but what was suspecious about this game was that a lot of betting places went out of business after this game because some close friend to the players probably had a tip about this scandal and gave it away which made quite a few people rich, there was even an article about this in a Spanish news paper)
Yugoslavia-Spain 2000 (i still cant believe that Spain came back and won that game after trailing 3-2 deep into injury time) so when someone talks about Spain getting screwed over at the 2002 World Cup against Korea i can point to this game and say it serves you right :D

The famous Cinque di Maggio incident at the Olimpico on May 5th 2002:

Inter down 2-1 or 2-0 not sure at which point during the game. Fernando Couto (Lazio) was in front of his PK area facing absolutely no pressure from an approaching opposition player, suddenly turns around and kicks the ball out for a corner. Di Biagio goes on to score for Inter from the resulting corner after Peruzzi had spilled the ball.

It was one of the oddest things I've ever seen in my life. I have the footage on tape, and have seen it over and over. Why on Earth he had such a compulsion to do so is beyond me. :googly:

Anyways...the rest is history :lala: ;)

Zola did nothing. The Nigerian behind him was acting worse than Rivaldo in '02, but in fact Zola never even went near him :finger:
