Indeed Mirko can be great and atrocious all in the same game. He can be absolute poor for a whole game but hit a thunderbolt of a shot from 20 yards and that will make up for it :D

Mirko Vucinic is a perfect example of Donovan Mcnabb either he is unstoppable or he is just plain TRASH

Did he ever reach the same heights for Roma that he did in Lecce?

Spalletti's reign stalled his progress somewhat*, he was playing as a left winger most of the time. Back in 2005 though he was the deadliest striker in the peninsula along with Gila.

A very likable player whose showing his true capabilities once again.

* That opinion is based on the limited times I've seen Roma in action.

Did u not watch the video posted showing his goals from last season? Even if he hasn't scored goals in a Messi-like quantity, I can assure you the importance of those goals cannot be understated and were tantamount to Roma pushing Inter all the way once again for the scudetto.

Injury stalled his progress somewhat, as he was injured when purchased and fought serious back problems his entire first year with Roma.

Surely you are joking. The nature of strikers and goalkeepers in particular dont allow for average performances. These players are usually heros or villains and nothing in-between. He may not always be unstoppable, but he is one of a few of our players who represent a wildcard - and has the ability to offer something different, when everything we throw at a defense doesn't work. And that's why he's priceless, and pretty much one of the first names on the sheet.

I wouldn't blame it on Spalletti alone, Vucinic had a nagging knee/back injury which kept him away for his first few months with us. He then struggled to fit in with lack of playing time as Totti was having his best days as striker while Vucinic mainly came off the bench here and there or was being played out of position.

..and to answer your main question I think he looked even better than his Lecce days last season. He was our main offensive player, scoring 19 goals in total (14 of which in Serie A) and more than 10 assists. As said above, he has incosistency issues but he is still young (26 only) and showing cotinuous improvement, his off days are becoming far apart. They still hurt us every time though as we have seen recently (Smapdoria :( ) which kinda tells you how important he has become to our team. He has also become a fan favorite and him, Totti, Derossi and Mexes are probably the main guys in the locker room these days.

..hopefully Menez can become vital this season to help as back up plan when Mirko decides to suck.

He had his moments back then too, the final game of that season 04/05 he was unbelievable against us. I had some doubts about his abilities till that point, his performance that day frightened the bejesus out of our defence.

The bastard almost condemned us to Serie B had it not been for the brilliance of Morfeo and Gila. :D

I totally love him, he's as cool as anyone, always plays with a lot of heart and usually steps in the biggest games. Way more vital to the team than just the goals - he does it all in attack- goals, assists, constant smart runs, pressuring the defenders, dribbling, creative passing. When he's out, our attack really suffers, can't remember the last time we had a good game offensively without him on the field.

I got nothing but love for Mirko, my favourite player today actually. Last season with Totti out and Menez still not mature he was our only creative force up front and the only player to create spaces for himself and others. He´s also very loyal and seems to be a great team mate, I woulndn´t trade him for anyone.

oh.. and him and Menez on the wings next season with Totti spreading the balls... can´t wait.

The left winger (actually almost a support striker) position suits Vucinic's strengths perfectly, he had said he likes playing there plenty of times, so I disagree he was misused by Spalletti. Even when he's the striker, he tends to drift wide and start his runs from the left, that's his style.

I agree he is better cutting in from the left as opposed to playing as classical ST. However that observation has some truth to it as Spalletti in his early days used him mostly as pure winger, way too periphral and away from the goal. In a way it probably helped him improve some areas of his game but during that time he was mostly useless.

The whole meaning of that goal makes it one of the best he has ever scored for us, and maybe even one of the best in the clubs history. Top quality and in the most important moment.
