According to the catalan press, Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Barcelona's 19 years old defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu for 5 million euros. Apparently, Barcelona will have an option to buy him back after two seasons. Their vicepresident Josep Maria Bartomeu is now in London closing the deal.

You do realize he will have a buy-back clause right? There's no need for a shit-storm even if he realizes his potential. I hope he does and then returns; I really rate him.

This is not the same as Cesc at all.

Ignorance is bliss. Chelsea didn't (or couldn't anyway) steal or tap up Romeu through a loophole. So the mandatory buy-back clause is there in case he turns out great even now. Its usually 2 or 3 years.

In this case, Romeus buy-back clause is set at 8M € for the first 2 seasons at Chelsea. 3rd season there is a first option (which seems worthless from what I gather). Got this from the barcastuff twitter page, dont remember their source but it fits in well with the new policy of the club to ALWAYS include buybacks whenever a youth player is sold. Its a mandatory clause and the only way to escape it is to do it the Arsenal way of tapping up the youth before they are legally able to sign a semi-pro youthcontract with FCB and the ones looking for a quick buck end up falling for it. And now Arsenal is reaping what they sowed with Cesc. Let him stay there 'suffering' for all I care.

I rate Oriol very high and hope the club buys him back in 2013, especially if Mascherano (or Busqeuts for that matter) drops his form and depending on if Keita, Jonathan dos Santos is still there not to mention Sergi Roberto makes it or not. Chelsea tried to sign the latter as well btw, and also Marc Bartra, both Spanish U20 internationals. FCB said no though.

Romeu keen on Chelsea move

Oriol Romeu has confirmed his agent has held talks with Chelsea over a proposed move from Barcelona.

Last month, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed the Blues have agreed a fee, thought to be around ÂŁ5 million, with Barcelona for highly-rated defensive midfielder Romeu.

Discussions over a contract have now taken place as a switch draws nearer, in what would be only Chelsea's second summer signing following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois, who has subsequently been loaned to Atletico Madrid, from Genk.

Romeu, 19, told AS: "Barcelona and Chelsea have already reached an agreement, and my agent was in London to listen to their offer. Chelsea is a great option for me. If everything goes well, why not? Leaving Barca hurts, but you have to take your chances."

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Oriol Romeu Vidal from Barcelona on a four-year-contract.

The 19-year-old will join us once his duties with Spain's U20 World Cup squad in Colombia are complete. Midfielder Oriol has so far played 90 minutes in each of Spain's two matches, a 4-1 win over Costa Rica and a 2-0 win against Ecuador.

Oriol began with Barcelona's smaller neighbours Espanyol before joining the famous Camp Nou academy in 2004, progressing through the ranks until a reserve team regular playing in Spain's second tier under Luis Enrique.

He made his La Liga debut for the senior Barça side at the end of last season, coming on as a late substitute in a 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna, having also appeared at the beginning of the campaign in a Spanish Supercup loss away at Sevilla.

The 6ft Catalan can also play in central defence and is renowned for his strength and his expansive passing ability.
