19.00 Galatasaray - Beşiktaş (Hakem: Tolga Özkalfa)

Thoughts?

Will we start with crap 4-4-2 or will we start with 4-something-1-1 but without Sneijder but to retain the same formation so that he could come in later? Or will we start from the first minute (bit risky)?

Interesting, ESPN brazil will show this game.
I heard they might even buy rights to our league? Do you have a source for this, I couldn't find one...I'm so curious.

I won't be surprised if we start with 4-4-2, honestly.

It has always baffled me how the league has never been able to sell its rights in Germany and Azerbaijan. There are 4 million Turks in Germany and a LOT of them would watch it if a German channel bought the rights. Same goes for Azerbaijan. We've all seen Youtube clips of how crazy their commentators get for Turkish teams in European competitions.

Not to mention the Arab world. They buy our shitty dizis......the league can't be a harder sale than that pile of shit!

For the money being invested we really have an awful PR and marketing team.

I know first hand that Turkish clubs are well known and followed in Turkish countries like Azerbaycan, Turkmenistan etc and in areas with large Turkish populations ie Bulgaria, Iran, Russia, Balkans and also in the Arab world and predominantly muslim regions like Indonesia/Malaysia.

Especially in the Arab and muslim world the locals have a soft spot for Turkish clubs because it's like the closest they can identify with and a sense of pride due to the religion/culture factor.

I have Arabs telling me about Turkish dizi's I haven't even heard about, your totally right in asking why we can't broadcast our football over there, some Arab money wouldn't go a miss either.

At least Galatasaray opened a GStore in Azerbaycan recently, first steps in looking outwards.

TBH Aysal business wise is very smart, he's been trying to target Russia, far east, the Turkish world with a series of deals.

Very good point. Though I think LIGTV wanna have a monopoly on the rights, so people have to buy the box/watch on digiweb - so people in Germany have either one of those options in place. Dunno if a German TV channel would be able to undercut them...

But I think that's a dumb plan. Sell the rights, build a brand and sell for money year after year.

Good post

I was in Morocco a few years back and was wearing my GS jersey when a guy in a cafe called me over to say 'hey, Galatasaray! Arda Turan!' and when in Dubai I got lots of attention too. Further back when I traveled to Hong Kong and Singapore they were all selling fake GS jerseys and all knew a lot about our team (even though we sucked at the time). There's so much potential out there for us to exploit. I saw a Red Cafe (Man Utd) in Kuala Lumpur and it was packed with people buying merchandise and watching games, and they have like €400M of revenue mostly from sources outside of the UK, we need a piece of the action!

Talking of which, Deloitte published their Football Power Rankings 2012 today. Cimbom is 30th with revenues of €95.1M while first was Real Madrid (€500m) - though I expect us to get in top 20 next season with our CL money.

And in regards to Aysal, I think he is the model chairman, the model businessman, the model Turk. If only we could reproduce him 75-million-odd times and Turkey would be the most advanced coutry in the world.

I still think Lig TV would have paid the same price as they ended up paying if they were bidding only for the rights in Turkey. I don't think Lig TV would have paid any less if the overseas rights were separately sold because they DESPERATELY want to hold on to the rights in Turkey.

Al Jazeera sometimes show the Fener-Gala derbies. And I know some Romanian channel was showing GS matches when Hagi was in charge. Do they buy the rights to these matches separately?

#12 ·
That's true, I dunno about that...actually on betting sites like Bet365 you can watch live streams (some with English commentary) for free, so they must buy the rights from somewhere?

Also, as random as it sounds, Nigeria bought the rights to TSL some years back...just for one season though. I'll try and find the source.

Here it is; and Spain apparently

Someone also asked Pierre van Hooijdonk on Twitter if the Dutch would show the GS-BJK derby because of Wes, but he replied he thinks not.

I know, I can only assume it's because German-Turks head back to Turkey fairly often and buy them then, so there might not be much demand?

When GS Store opened in Baku they said they were exploring the possibility of opening more outlets in London, Paris, USA, Germany and Benelux as well as one in Japan. Hopefully they stick to their word.

btw talking of Gala's brands, I encourage all of you to watch GSTV when you can (it's free on www.galatasaray.com) - it's ****ing good. Real quality programmes. For example they went to Gelsenkirchen and made a show exploring FC Schalke and their stadium, history, museum, talked to club legends, former players, current players, academy players, went around the town...really comprehensive show. Aysal has really invested heavily into it and you can tell

How hard can it be to open a store and keep it running? You're right, Turks will get their shirts etc. from their visits to Turkey. But what about the German friend of that 10 year old kid who is also interested in GS, FB, BJK?

We all heard how much Amrabat was rooting for GS in the 2000 UEFA cup final as a kid. IF there was a GS store anywhere near him, I'm sure he'd have bought a shirt.

By the way, I've seen FB shirts worn by English people here in Sheffield because a sports clothing shop was selling them for something like £10-20. People will wear the shirt of any club when they're playing football with their friends in the park or the astroturf.

It's nice that they do...Well it must be the Sneijder thing...but Besiktas got Dentinho just now who's probably still rated in Brazil, so it's natural they show some interest. Good, keep'em coming!!! Soon I hope I won't have to endure trolls from Valencia or Inter sections :howler: nor any of us...

for the first time in ages i really want to watch a gs match but i can't. A friend of mine is having his "nisan" on sunday :/ so, if anyone knows where to download full matches can provide me with links, that would be pretty dope.

#21 ·
Yeah, me too. I have to go to Serbia shit so any links would be badly great. If we lose, don't bother of course :D

Guys I can't recommend Digiturkwebtv enough. It's 24/7 football with actually good football shows. But the best thing about it is, you can rewind up to 12 hours and watch the games often as you like to your hearts content! They repeat them for a couple of days anyway.

If you just want GS games you can select the 'taraftar paketi' which is $105 for a a year. Not bad at all, and it's live stream is HD quality (when you re-wind you lose some quality) and it's honestly worth the investment for the decrease in stress alone from searching for broken links.

My missus would kill me if I bought it :'(

How the hell did you get it when I keep checking google and it says out of stock, fukk man. It's been 2 months and still out of stock. I'm about to buy an iphone 5.

#34 ·
Get an iPhone 5 and you can also watch Digiwebtv on your phone/tablet/laptop! It's awesome. You can even plug into the TV if you have an HDMI cable and watch it there.

And no I don't receive any comission for any sale I make through XT :D

I had a cable, to connect my laptop to my tv, but after a while it broke, I'd rather just pay for the full Ligtv package for the start of next season. I'm thinking of doing a double and getting Sky sports around the same time anyway
