Apparently it has been a while since these two teams face each other in Korea? They were supposed to meet in a WCQ match last September in Pyongyang but North Korea refused to play South Korea's anthem or show their flag so the match was moved to China by FIFA. It ended 1-1.

North Korea is leading their group right now and look likely to make it to the final tournament first time since 1966. Apparently, if they win in Seoul then it's a certain qualification for them. Personally I hope it won't happen because it will only be used as a propaganda victory for the current sick political regime.

Interestingly, there are some players in DPR's team who are born in Japan but have agreed to represent North Korea. For example, midfielder Ahn Young Hak is born in Japan and played there and currently is playing in South Korea's club Suwon. Another Japanese born player is Jong Tae-Se from Kawasaki. Apparently he isn't even ethnically North Korean but feels thankful to them having attended Korea University in Tokyo for 3 years which is funded by Korea DPR for propaganda purposes. :rollani: Third one is Ryang Yong-Gi, born in Osaka and playing for Vegalta Sendai.

I guess not many people care about this fixture on XT but it seems an interesting one to me and I hope to catch a live stream on the internet.

I am in solidarity with Axis-of-Evil nations so I am supporting North Korea on this one.

FORZA NORTH KOREA!!

Actually North Korea are making huge steps since 2002. Their youth teams are good and have a great base of young players. Can't believe the Jordanian media made a great fuss when they qualified ahead of us with S. Korea to the final qualifiers, shows how much our media are on:D

GO NORTH KOREA!

I want both Koreas to lose. Is this possible?

I suppose I don't mind if they qualify, as long as they stay very far away from Italy.

I say, it'll end 2-0.

If North Korea will qualify it would be cool if they get drawn into the same group with USA. I heard that during WC2002 one of the few matches shown on their national television was an heavily edited half hour replay of Germany-USA quarterfinal which was edited in a way to show USA as bad as possible and the commentary was basically making fun of them most of the time. I wonder what they would do in case of North Korea-USA match? Probably wouldn't show it live.

Bad memories since 1966 and 2002, uh?
Especially 1966. I remember it like it was yesterday.:smileani:

They're born in Japan but have North Korean roots except for Jong Tae-Se who is second generation South Korean immigrant in Japan but has decided to represent North Korea for personal reasons. So basically there's nothing wrong with it. I just thought it is surprising that they are willing to represent the country and regime their ancestors escaped from.

South Korea will probably take this one, but both will qualify from their group I think. At the very least North Korea will get third and get a play-off spot. North Korea have a very interesting team. Besides the obvious 1966 events, the regime puts a lot of emphasis on sport for a variety of reasons - they see it as a tool for national development, even more an escape from some of the real problems they are facing. This time it could pay off big time.

For my fellow Japanese colleagues at work, neither Korea makes a difference to them. Just say the word Korea to them once, is enough to make them cringe and say "Ehh?!" :D

I hope North Korea wins. Their presence in the WC finals will of course be used by the regime for propaganda purposes but that happens with any regime, including the sick regime of South Korea.

They played each other in Seoul last year in the previous stage. It's the games in North Korea that have been moved because they refused to play the South Korean national anthem or something equally stupid. They also play each other in the East Asian Cup every second year too.

Anyway, this isn't even that big of a game in the group 2 scheme of things. When Iran play in Pyongyang in June, that's what will decide it.
