I know this is pretty much going to be a one man show (ie me talking to myself :googly: :wallbang: ) but I'll give it a go.

So...

This is a general Saudi football thread, anything to do with Saudi football, wether club or national can be posted here.

Main topics of the moment.

1. League championship.
2. World cup preparations.

1. League championship:

We're now at the business end of the season: the golden square. It's harvest time, who goes home with the title?
First round: Ittihad v Ahli. Coming into this game, Ahli were very confident, but their dreams were shattered as Ittihad trounced them 3-0.

The goals:
[1-0] Kallon
[2-0] Tagoe
[3-0] Tagoe

I hope to see Noor and Manaf setup these kind of goals in the world cup ( ya rab :nervous: )

Up next, they face Hilal on Sunday in Riyadh.

Hi saciuk,

What's the likely lineup? I don't know. Paqueta is still experimenting and muddling .

But my ideal lineup would be:

Code:
__________________________ Zayed ____________________________

Doukhi ______ Montasheri ___________ Tokar __________ Khathran

_____________ Kariri __________________ Aziz _________________

__ Noor __________________ Temyat ___________ Shalhoub/Manaf _

Attram was average today and I haven't been following the league to have an opinion on the other day.

All I have to say is: Nasha'at Akram is brilliant! :star:  He toyed with Hilal today and Shabab's one-touch football was a joy to watch, even for a Hilal follower like me.

Congrats to Al Shabab.

Hilal won trophies while Itti leave empty handed... I'm satisfied!

Congratulations to Shabab, worthy champions that topped the table and confirmed it by a convincing 3-0 win in the league final. But HiJazzey how come Ittihad won 2 Champions Leagues in a row and did very well in the Club World Championship but didn't enjoy as much success in Saudi the last 2 seasons?

I also want to ask you about that player Fahd ElMehalal who used to play in the 90's. Do you know where he is playing now? Or is he retired? He is one of my all time favourite Saudi players. Used to be a very prolific striker indeed.

Hi Ahlawi Canada,

Ittihad has been inconsistent , hence we had a bad season domestically. There's also a small game mentality which meant we played crap against weaker teams.

Fahad al-Mehallal has retired. He was a great player indeed.

Elsalam allaikum wa rahmet allah wa berakatuh

Greetings all,

Hijazzy, tough break on Itti missing out on the league, at least the title went to a deserving team.. and hopefully Itti can win the Asian CL again later in the year

In regards to the NT, I really don’t think Shalhoob or Manaf are good choices for the world cup, their skill/vision simply doesn’t in any way make up for the lack of physical ability imo. In the formation u chose above, I would rather have another solid midfielder (not sure who though; Saad Dosri ? Marzouq Otaibi ???) or if one prefers more attack minded play, how about Saad Harthy or Sami Jabir in that left wing position ? pushing Nawaf Temyat to the left and having Ibrahim Sowed or Mohammed Amin on the right could work too.

walaiklom asalam, creative play

Regarding the lefthand position, I agree with you that Shalhoub and Manaf (who wasn't picked by Paqueta :( ) will have trouble against physical opponents. But there aren't many alternatives in that position. What you could do is put Khathran there ( he was originally a left midfielder) and put in Abdulghani as left back.

I'll come back to post the Holland camp squad later this evening.

As for Ittihad, well you can't win all the time ;)

Sorry for the late reply Hijazzy, elsooq (TASI) is killing me

Anyway, your suggestion about using Khathran and Abdulghani sounds very reasonable imo, but I doubt it would happen.

I read that Paq might be using a line-up of M. a-Da'eye', Khathran, Montasheri, Tokar, Doukhi, Kariri, K. Aziz, Noor, Tamyat, Sa'ad al-Harthi, and Yaser Q against Belgium today.

I like that he’s using 2 DMs, and it will be interesting to see how Yaser and Sa’ad combine (don’t recall seeing them start together and not sure how that will work).

Although I belive Yaser has shown a lot of skill and has a good deal of potential, I think he’s more effective in a support-striker role rather than a number 9. he’s always heavily marked and usually moves back to link-up with the midfield. But who could be our number 9 ?? I haven’t seen much of al-Mehayani, but leading scorer in the league surly accounts for something.. why wasn't he picked do u think ?

Another question; why the heck is Da’eye being picked ahead of Mabrook Zayed ? I thought he (Mabrook) fully recovered from his injury..

Well, we lost 2-1. Very dissapointing considering we were playing against Belgium's kids.

We have big problems. In goal, a-Da'eye' doesn't inspire confidence. He doesn't know how to deal with crosses. And our defence is a shambles. They don't look able to get a cleansheet against the Maldives, let alone Spain.

aaaaakh aaaakh aaaaakh :depress:

Oh, regarding the markets. I understand your pain. We have an immature bourse reflecting an immature economy.

Take heleyyel's advice :D ;) :
