Real Madrid vs Barcelona
Liga BBVA
Saturday, November 21
Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid

At the conclusion of the first 11 weeks of Spanish La Liga, the table looks compact at the top with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid separated by just four points from top spot to third. Prior to the last week of league action before the ongoing international break, reigning Spanish champions Barcelona and Real Madrid were tied on points, but a win for the Catalans and the subsequent defeat of Los Blancos has put the reigning champions ahead with a lead of three points. Meanwhile, the 2014 champions, Atletico Madrid are a point behind their illustrious neighbours in third.

The 12th week of action will see arguably the biggest game of the league season across Europe when Real Madrid play host to their fierce rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, 21st November.

Barcelona enjoyed a hugely successful 2014/15 season as they won a historic treble of the league title, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey – their second treble in six years. The Catalans, however, didn’t enjoy the most auspicious of starts to the current season as Athletic Bilbao hammered them 4-0 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the San Mames before completing the job with a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou to take home the domestic trophy with a 5-1 aggregate win.

On top of it, Luis Enrique’s side have been beset with personnel problems. The Catalan outfit have been banned from registering new players due to their infringements in the transfers of minor players – the ban remains in effect until January next year. The sanction has considerably thinned the resources at the disposal of Enrique, and their problems have been compounded by Pedro Rodriguez’s transfer to Chelsea and numerous injuries to their first team regulars.

Important players like Andres Iniesta, Claudio Bravo, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha Alcantara and, most importantly, Lionel Messi have endured spells on the sidelines due to various fitness issues. The extended injury list has forced Enrique to play Barcelona B players like Sandro Ramirez, Munir El Haddadi, Gerard Gumbau and a player who was on the fringes of first team action at the beginning of the current season: Sergi Roberto.

However, despite their setbacks Barcelona have coped well and may be able to welcome back Messi into the fold as the Argentine has begun training, according to media reports.

Real Madrid started their campaign in blistering fashion after the first round draw and won their next four games on the trot, before drawing the following two. Three more wins followed before they succumbed to their first loss of the season against Sevilla.

Rafael Benitez’s arrival has considerably strengthened the defence of the Madrid giants, but at the same time, they aren’t scoring as many goals as they did under Carlo Ancelotti last season. Cristiano Ronaldo has thus far failed to replicate his form of the previous seasons and injuries have been a source of trouble for Los Blancos as well as they have had James Rodriguez, Isco, Danilo and Dani Carvajal amongst others, out on injury spells.

The first El Clasico of the season promises to be an enticing affair at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend.

Lionel Messi has returned to training just days before league leaders Barcelona are due to play second placed Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

The Argentine has been out of action with a knee injury since 26 September, but reports in the Spanish media suggest he could be a substitute for the trip to Madrid.

Barcelona's official website reported that the first team returned to training on Monday, for a session that included the participation of Messi and Ivan Rakitic, who picked up a calf injury on 4 November.

The Catalan club currently lead their great rivals from Madrid by three points in La Liga, ahead of Saturday evening's El Clasico.

I would also remove Mathieu and put Mascherano there...

Barcelona 3-0 (MSN)
Thousands of white handkerchiefs will be waived in the air, in a form of protest against this unbalanced and uninspired side.

Will be a tough match to predict. the MSN are in a better shape than BBC . they know a win means 6 points gap and they don't want to miss this cushion

Messi is well rested despite the injury .

If Isco who is in a fine shape start in the middle of the park with kroos and Luka then Rafa will go with 4-4-2 and will bench karim who has yet fully recovered

I think Barca is going to take this however, considering the shape of their defense, I would be surprised if we dont score, I predict Real Madrid 1 - 2 Barcelona

I'm curious how Rafa will lineup against Barca with almost all the players fit to play now.

Carvajal or Danilo? I'd prefer Dani tbh.

Caesmiro and James/Isco, probably one of them will start in midfield with Kroos and Modric depends on his approach.

Bale will certainly start but doubts over Benzema starting this one.

oh, and Keylor hopefully he's fit to start this one, I dont trust Kiko at all.

I think regardless he will stay, considering there are not many good replacement for him and its toooooooooooo soon to let him go.

BTW if Navas does not play, I predict Real Madrid 1 - 4 Barcelona

You want Danilo playing RB because he knows Neymar inside out. Current teammates for Brazil, but more importantly former teammates at Santos and Neymar has said Danilo is one of the most difficult full-backs for him to attack against. Should go with him there.

Really, really hoping CR shows up and rapes Pique again. The boos will be raining down on the fat bastard, so hopefully Cristiano takes advantage of the situation and exposes him like usual.

Let's get under the skin of Suarez early. Some dirty hacks, little clips here and there, get Ramos in his ear as well. Need to get him off of his game. Don't give him space and come in hard through the back every time he receives the ball with his back to goal.

Same goes for Messi. Get the daggers out and see how fit the little midget's knee really is.

I'm feeling a win here. 2-1 with Yeseh scoring the winner off an Eeesco pass.

Kroos is a player who is a decisive member of the German team, a player who can retain and pass the ball, just the kind of player needed against Barca for more control in the midfield, the only midfielder I have seen playing better than him for us this season is Modric and the reality for me is that all of our players need to raise their game at the moment bar possibly Navas, he certainly has not played any worse than Isco or Casemiro, in my opinion it would be madness to bench Kroos vs Barca, I'd certainly bench one of the fabled BBC for James though.

I remember in last season's first El Clasico when ever BBC attacked they scared the sh!t out of me with their pace, passing and counters, Real Madrid were the team on form, so I hope that won't be the case now. My prediction is Real Madrid 1-2 Barcelona but if Benzema is available it might be a different scenario since he's got a nick of picking up Ronaldo with a pinpoint assist. Nonetheless I hope we shine bright on the night with the G.O.A.T (Messi) making an appearance. I also hope it will be a free flowing match without the flare of tempers, red cards, fights and the works. Visca Barca
