Real To Send Baptista To Arsenal? According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid may be willing to offload Julio Baptista to Arsenal in their bid to sign Jose Antonio Reyes.

Earlier in the week it was reported that Real would not be including the former Gunners target in any deal to sign Reyes, but it appears that the clubs are still apart in their valuation of the player, and Baptista may provide a nice make-weight in the deal.

Arsenal were in advanced talks to sign Baptista from Sevilla last summer before the Brazilian chose to join Real.

Reyes appears desperate to return to Spain despite telling Arsenal he is happy at the club

So what do you guys thing about Baptista? Will he fit in at Arsenal?

No, Baptista will not fit in at the Arsenal.

Far too simple minded and near-sighted a footballer to play Wenger ball.

It's funny, though... the trade's basically a player who desparately wants to leave the Gunners for Madrid, being traded for a guy who chose Real over Arsenal just last summer and is going to 'make due' because Capello doesn't want him.

Love it. :D

he will fit right in Arsenal´s fast passing counter game, great trade! You will have a blast watching him carve a counter with his superb ball controll ability and sharp passes.
:howler:

Next Lit's going to say Mineiro's an overrated, crappy footballer.

Baptista can't play the DM role at all.

You're setting yourself up for a massive failure if you think he can.

We tried it already, and he was horrendous.

nonsense he is great, the beast is the best! Miles ahead of Makele in that position.

Twayka makes the best posts I have ever seen but I just can´t conceive how he thinks Baptista´s passing can´t be worst than Gilberto´s. Men Baptista is a better passer than Rai. Show some respect, don´t compare him to Gilberto.

I just have no idea where Baptista would fit at the Arsenal. We are already stacked at striker with 2 great prospects in Lupoli and Bendtner coming along to join Titi, RvP, Manny, and Walcott. Fabregas is pretty much set as the offensive midfielder and Baptista can't play DM. I just don't think he would have a place at AG.

Yeah, a man who wanted to stay in Spain to get his passport and a spaniard who hasn't settled in England wanting to return home. Congratulations.

How did you get on unsettling Fabregas by the way? Didn't your president vow to get him this summer as part of his election campaign?

It's too late if you offer Baptista to us this season, because we already have Adebayor whose position is most possibly the one that Wenger would have given to the 'Beast' if only he chose us last season. And FIG is right, Baptista was mediocre as DM. On the other hand, Reyes is a winger-striker and talented passer. At the moment, we need him more than we need Baptista.

Baptista would be good for Arsenal. he is very dynamic, he can defend and go forward. Has great football mind and a natural athlete as well as having a brilliant shot.

Great signing if they get him.

I can't really see where Baptista fits, because it seems he would play striker (where we have RvP and Adebayor) or the more attacking CM where Fabregas plays. Possibly he could be the reserve in these positions, but once Diaby gets back there will be no need for him. Last year he would have been a good buy for us, this year I am a little unsure.

A what...?

You're kidding, I hope... right?

Baptista sees nothing past five feet in front of him on the pitch.

Baptista is not much of a dribbler and he gets the ball taken away despite his large frame, I have to agree with Fig that is passing ability is very sub par...

However if you play him close to the box he does become very dynamic and showed glimpses of his game.

However at Real we have too many players at the position...
