Muslim footballers are a lot more abundant in an around the top leagues now, even compared to 10 years ago.

Always wondered this though, what do muslim footballers do about Ramadan, because nutrition and healthy, regular eating is so vital in terms of performing well and maintaining that performance.

Can someone please remove my ignorance on this matter ?

On our national team, if the reports are right, certain players are fasting. (ie Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic, not sure about others) I've heard though that others go to their imam and get a kind of "pardon" because they are athletes and as you say nutrition and getting hydrated is very important. So guess its an individual case.

I know in the NHL, a young player from Lebanon got that pardon.

Thank God we have people who know what God's opinion on it is. Even when both opinions contradict each other.

Religion.

There are guys like Anelka who fast even during the games and there are guys like Diaby who make up for it during the off-season. It just depends on your own physical strength and how important your faith is to you.

I remember reading a great interview two years ago with Mahamdou Diarra explaining his training routine during Ramadan. He used to consume specific liquids to limit the chances of dehydration.

a guy on Red Bull New York celebrates Ramadan and he fasts during the weekdays but on gamedays he eats before the match. Basically everyday he eats during Ramadan he has to fast the same amount of days after Ramadan, some sort of pardon, at least thats what the report said

You can make up for it the times you didnt fast by fasting in another time periods (players play almost all year long, so they can choose when they are have lesser burden or have vacation), there is no need to ask for pardon by Imans or such. Perhaps ask advice, but you dont ask for permission from Imans, as saying pardons make it sound like.

Only if you have a good reason to do so. And playing with a ball IS NOT a good reason. I'm sure you know that, or perhaps you're like the ones who think there are tricks and loopholes.

I have no idea about this stuff, I think it's crazy personally but I respect it. I just remember Benzema saying he eats like a pig at night, so it can't be that bad.

Great quote which fits in nicely in this thread.

Life is a luxury for you and me, but not for so many people around the world who are stuck in wars or are without food and such hence why Islam asks Muslims to fast, to remind yourself how lucky you are in comparison to others.

Islam is a word coming from Salam wish is Peace or Peaceful.

Ramadan just finished today, its between 29-30 days month, and people fast because GOD "Allah" wanted rich people to know how it feel to be without food the whole day and working and doing everything normal.

you fast between ALFajer Prayer till ALMaghrib Prayer, from sun rise till sun sit, you don't eat nor drink, isn't the only thing, it tells people to control their emotions, you can't say a bad thing, do anything wrong, its a holy month comes every year.

it meant to be a teaching of self controlling and having the luxury of life behind you, most of us FAST during the day when it summer and hot like hell. being a footballer or anything else doesn't matter Islam isn't a religion that force, GOD gave reasons for people to make up for days they can't fast because of illness, traveling, having to work in a kind of job that needs more force and power, and you can make up for that day any time of the year between the 2 Ramadan month.

some of the guys should easily read about Islam and its teaching, don't stand to what the media say and talk about, try to over come bullshit comes out of FOX news and the likes, and try googleing something and the key words would be

"Islam, Ramadan, Fasting in Islam" it could help if you try to search to English websites made by Muslim people.

hope this offers something to the one who asked.

Eid Mubarak to all

Good post.
Islam does not mean submission. That's a popular myth. Isteslam means submission/surrender. Islam is a mix up of Salam (Peace with people) and Isteslam (Surrender to God).
There is a long tradition of associating fasting with feeling for the poor. It is not just a 20th-century phenomenon.

Eid Mubarak guys!:D It is over today and tomorrow is the first day of Eid.

I am not enjoying this Eid very much since my uncle's wife died yesterday backhome. The phone call was like a thunder on my head!

However, I do not break my fasting for any reason, fook football. I travelled from Riyadh to Jeddah which is 949KM and it is a distance that allows you to break your fasting since the minimum distabce is 81KM but I could not do it. I kept talking to my wife about the Lebanese political situation and that wasted so much time:dielaugh:
