Luke Chadwick. Manchester youth team.

My favorite youngster back then, so disappointed at how he's turned out

Ok, he made it "big" by playing for Barca, Monaco, Sevilla and Real Madrid, but if the hype was anything to go by, he should be one of the best strikers in the world right now :(

He was ruined by Barca, its not his own fault.

Lee Croft was the most capped ever at international youth level for England, and will never get near a cap. He was expected to be the next big thing at City. He won't even play against an England international as he plays for lowly Norwich.

What? Mendieta was never that promising as a youngster, on the contrary he peaked late in his career and was one of the best midfielders in the World in 2000. Definitly joining Lazio was a huge mistake though.

I would have to say Saviola was one of the most dissapointing outcomes I have ever seen. When he was with River I was sure he would be the next big thing.

Reyes is another one.
And another is Javier Portillo. Shattered Raul's records in the youth system, and played well in his debut and first games with the A team. He was a victim of the Perez era.

Well up until now he's been dissapointing... Maybe he'll break through this season.

Some players still are seen as dissapointing because people expected so much from them. Like Graham Rix. Although he made up for that with his coaching career. Gave people the totally unexpected.

I think being the highest paid player at some point of time showed he did make it.

Anyway, D'Alessandro and Ventola.

Injuries wrecked what could have been a nice career for poor Ventola.

Mehgni is the most overhyped, in terms of never actually doing anything to justify it, I think.

Also Montano got hyped when he joined Parma for a lot of money at a young age, I can only assume the people bigging him up hadn't seen him play, cos he was shit.

i think Cavenaghi will be back to his 02 - 04 form when everybody compared him with the great Batigol...no doubt that he is the best natural # 9 for argentina...

as for others, d'alessandro, saviola and ernesto chevanton are certainly there...

an year ago, i would have said luis fabiano, but he turned his fortune in Sevilla

Mitea, Sanmartean, Cernat, Stoica

Mitea = best young player in the neths... now a reserve at Dinamo

Sanmartean = once considered most technical player in Greece.... without a club

Cernat = considered Hagi's replacement... reserve at Kiyv

Stoica = the little prince and legend for Anderlecht without a club now

Alin Stoica is the biggest waste in Romanian football, I´ll never stop saying this.
Right now he should be easily a Top10 in European midfielders...but you see where he ended.

80% of creative Romanian players in the last years failed at some point. Knowing this it´s not a mystery what the NT lacks right now.
