Liverpool has outdone the bid of Barcelona for you Croatian defender/midfielder Igor Biscan. They have upped the bid to 29m DM after Barca offered 19m.

Since I don't watch much EPL, I don't know how strong the Pool defence is, but Biscan will only make it stronger.

I really don't know what pool's plans are, but this comes from the player himself. He's in England right now I believe discussing this with pool officials. This was a last minute offer by the club, to counter Barca's offer.

Lazioson, Biscan does get called up to the NT, but is not a regular starter. He does get play, mostly as a substitute. Cro's got more experienced players ahead of him right now, but if he continues to develop the way he's going, he should win a starting spot in 6 month's time, definatley by the time WC rolls around.

He can play defense and midfield, is physically strong and technically sound. He's great in the air and can read the game very well. Boban has said that he expects a lot from the kid, and Boban doesn't normally speak so soon.

You won't regret it if he comes to your club.

LFCNet, here's a story I found.

REDS READY TO PULL OFF BISCAN COUP
by Adam Marshall

EXCLUSIVE
LIVERPOOL look to have overtaken Barcelona in the prolonged chase for Croatian international Igor Biscan, a player being dubbed the new Frank Rijkaard on the continent.
The Dinamo Zagreb star had reacted coolly to a proposed move to Juventus, as he wants to play in the centre of midfield at his new club, and he is rumoured to be disappointed that Barca coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer wants him to play in defence.

Whether that would be a sufficient reason to reject a dream move to Camp Nou is clearly debatable, but the Spanish side appear a lot less confident over the transfer than they were last week.

Dinamo are tipped to officially announce the sale on Monday, be it to Anfield or Catalunya, with the president, Mirko Basic, convinced that a deal has been struck.

Barca had looked to have won the race for the Croat's services, despite the interest from Liverpool, which was documented on Friday on planetfootball.com, whilst Arsenal and Espanyol have also been strongly linked to the player.

However, according to local press reports, Dinamo director Velmir Zajec and the player travelled to Merseyside secretly last week, and Gerard Houllier is prepared to spend considerably more than Barca on the 22-year-old.

Zagreb are understandably holding out for the largest possible fee with $12 million (ÂŁ8.23 million) being suggested as the amount offered by the Premiership side.

Biscan, who played against Manchester United in the Champions League last year, is believed to be an admirer of the English game but it would be a significant coup for Liverpool if they can buy one of the most promising defensive midfielders in the game.

I really wonder why you guys are relying on tabloids like Optasoccer for your news source. For any transfer deal, it's the least to look for quotes from the clubs involved. I could have written something like that any day.

I've a journalist friend working with Zoomsoccer and it was revealed that part and parcel of their job to create space-filling antics like there. If it's really an "exclusive" (which they ALWAYS claim to be), why no quotes? I'll never believe in any speculation until there are official confirmation from the spokesmen (managers, CEOs, etc) from the clubs.

But I guess I'm wrong on this occasion though. GH has admitted he's interested in the player, so for once the tabloids got it right. But one long shot from the half way line that went in doesn't make them a Beckham.

PS: M, the Czech player is Jan Koller.

Another defender or midfielder, I don't mind as long as he is as good as IVO is saying. The price may have been high at one point but nowadays 8 million is not that much. I wonder if this is to do with Henchoz and his shaky start or the hint that Song will be off soon.

I think that Liverpool has a good defence so far. Eventhough they made an unpleasant start in the premiere league but they will get back on thier feet and play well. Bayern are chasing him as well, they need him more than Liverpool do...

very true........I have a feeling that if he does come that he will not get in the side straight away and this may dent his confidence. At the end of the day if he does come to the pool then it will strengthen our squad by a lot and I'm sure Song has not impressed GH in his starts this year and maybe this is why the move is on (or at least Gh wants him).
I think that Song is a good player essentially but now and again he is prone to make the odd lapse which costs Liverpool. Saying this though he is very brave which I think is important in a defender.

He's a midfielder too - he could play there or defence. Therefore there is cover if Hamann/Gerrard are injured or a defensive hole appears. It also means that JC will have to work harder (although he does seem to be doing this already to be fair). Overall I think it would be a good buy.
