Back in the league, we are facing Maritimo, at home, in about......well at 19.45 GMT:D

sporttv1 showing it

after sporting's slip yesterday ( and why did Nacional miss all those opportunities to score :wallbang: ) and before Porto's unfortunate clash against the seamen  its time for us to take the chance of grabbing precious pts :D

Players called by Camacho:

Goalies: Quim , Butt

Defenders: Luis Filipe, Luisão, Edcarlos, Zoro, Léo , Miguelito

Midfielders: Maxi Pereira, Katsouranis, Binya, Rui Costa , Cristían Rodriguez

Forwards: Adu, Di Maria, Fábio Coentrão, Bergessio , Cardozo

shut up wals:D

HT 1-1

our goalie screwed up, and they scored, their defense screwed up and we scored a penalty

our defense screwed up and instead of trying to grab the ball, chose to scream at the linesman saying it was offside...result? our goalie is force to make a penalty

thne the ref screws up...how on eartn was that worth it of a red card mr proença?:D seriously, this man ALWAYS screws us up lol i think thats why he says he's a benfica fan...

anyways, butt did well and saved the penalty, the fans did great too, as i hadnt heard so much pressure put on a rival in ages:D!

now, camacho will replace maxi with anyone really lol so we start having better crosses in the 2nd half and.....we'll win 3-1 on this one;)

more entertaining than yesterday my dear? :pp:

it will be even more entertaining when we grab 2nd place tonight:D
Yes, certainly more entertaining than yesterday but unless you drastically change your playing style I am afraid that you will not even sniff that 2nd spot during the whole season.

no nuno, do tell me please
I know you know it therefore I don't understand why are you claiming that the ref "screwed you". If anybody screwed you was your defense that let a guy from Marítimo one-on-one with Quim with no other player between him and the goal line which resulted in Quim fouling and being duly sent off. What's wrong with it? :googly:

oh come on , how many times are the goalies sent off for causing a penalty? unless its a violent tackle, it almost never happens, and this wasnt any of the sort

and i hate that guy :fero: so dont get in the way:crazy: :D

Quim was not sent off for causing a penalty. He was sent off because he fouled a player that was going alone with the ball in the direction of the goal with the ball controled. According to the rules the player fouling in that case should be sent off and I am sure you don't hate Pedro "Back Pass" Proenca more than me ;)

Marítimo did more than enough to deserve a draw but your luck seems neverending.

Playing with 10 and keep hammering all game long, creating more chances than Marítimo, could never be qualified as luck.

We wanted to win a lot more then they did, even with the handicap. It was a deserved win, and also a deserved defeat for Marítimo who could never take the game away.

We're sniffing right now and it smells so good. :lick: :shades:

Good to see one Lisbon side tame a club from Madeira. As for your other twisted mantra about Maritimo deserving a draw, I'll toss that up to just sour grapes from a lagarto who's not happy with this weekend's results.

well the goalie is supposed to be the last man between the attacker and the net, innit:pp

and yes i do, i hate him more :crybaby:

no...they did play well, very well i think, very organized...though whne makukula left, one could see their enthusiasm got a bit colder

however having played most part of the game with 10 men, and still being able to have more goal chances thna they did, i think it does grant us a fair win;)

never ending luck was a certain team last night:D

Again, please take your green glasses off, the maritimo forward woulnd't even get to the ball if quim hadn't touched him, keep in mind that the put the ball far enough ahead of him to not be able to get it.
but whatever, we won and that's all that matter regardless of what your green glasses tell you.

Sending the keeper off in that situation is almost unheard of. It was a brutal decision, one in which 99 out of 100 times merely sees the keeper booked for a cautionary yellow, if that.

Didn't matter much however, Benfica despite being a man down took it to them.

Inspired play by everyone except Quim, Ed Carlos and Di Maria. But I ain't gonna focus on the negative today. This was a huge and deserved win, made bigger by the circumstances before and after the game.

well well well look who's he...now that you got provisorily 2nd (huge achievement for a team that haven't seen that spot for the last couple of years) you decide to show up. Time to change avatar, innit? :smileani:

I'm sorry but I totally disagree on the Makukula bit. If there was a reason for Marítimo's inefficiency last night upfront, that reason was exactly Makukula. He had one good shot during the whole match and he was guilty of a huge mistake that probably cost at least a point to his team by deciding to shoot a penalty when he knew he was not the one supposed to do it.

Fairness in football is as you know very subjective. I agree that Benfica had a great 2nd half and did very well in controlling the game during that period even being down to 10 men but Marítimo was by far the best team during the first period of the game that is why I believe they'd have deserved a point.

Sporting missed more clear chances than Nacional did but as I've said it before we didn't deserve to win. The difference is that we haven't been able to poach goals after goals at the 88th minute like you. Let's see until when you manage to do it. ;)

Quim send off was fair as Benfica win was deserve.....we against ten men player better all the second half and showed much more spirit fight then maritimo....Cardozo seems finaly to do something, addu again the saviour, but the goal belongs 90 per cent to leo.

Maritimo was a very good team in the first half but a coward one in the second half, they deserve to lose it but they should finnish in top five this year.

So Butt the keeper for the next games.

Cardozo has a horrible first touch, except when it's to set him self up. But otherwise his touches go to the opposition at least half the time. He's gotta make great improvement on his passes or he's going to get benched.
