Before we consider names, I think the club has to draw up a profile of which type of coach we are looking for. Just because someone like Ancelotti has enjoyed success with big stars at Milan, it does not necessarily follow that he will be good coaching a more youthful, up and coming, less name dropping Roma side.
For this reason, I was happy for Capello to leave, because his managerial style did not reflect the project (remember that? *argh*) we were developing, or trying to. Prandelli did appear to be the best guy possible for us, but sadly tragic events ended that relationship.
I would pick a coach who the club can have faith in for a few years. The new man must understand and clearly support the direction we intend to take, which will be a younger team, an equally talented team, but one wit hplayers who are really hungary to make their name and quickly develop themselves in Serie A (if we stay up). Of course, we will hopefully retain a sprinkling of our established stars, hopefully Totti, Cassano, Montella, Chivu, and Perrotta.
In a nutshell, I think the attitude of the new coach is as equally important as his technical skill.
I like Ancelotti, even though - like most successful coaches - he is probably a little overrated, but I am not so sure his profile matches the squad's likely profile next season, if we stay in Serie A.
My choice would be Prandelli and I would not rule it out: after all, did not Rosella say a few months ago that we will be doing our business quietly, without the media knowing every move? Not sure how realistic this is, but I hope Prandelli has already been bagged quietly, away from the glare of the media, although everything rests on if we avoid relegation, of course.
Le Guen sounds interesting too, but I know very little about him, other than he has been very successful with Lyon.
