Well Felipe obviously gave me the idea ;) because he has one set up in the Sporting forum so I decided to make one in here dedicated to our youth. In here everyone is welcomed to post articles and opinions about the players coming up the ranks for Portugal. At the moment, we're on the verge of seeing players such as Figo retiring from the NT and we will finally say goodbye to our famed Golden-Generation who went through difficult times despite an enormous amount of talent the group carried. Fortunately, Figo will leave on a good note leading us to a 2nd place finish at Euro 2004 and the semifinals of the 2006 WC. Hopefully youngsters such as Cristiano Ronaldo can build on the experience they've received our the past 4 years and continue where Figo left off and lead our new bunch of upcoming players to greatness. Only time will tell, atleast this time we can avoid the mistakes we made with the Golden-Generation.

PSV delight at Da Costa deal
Friday, 7 July 2006

PSV Eindhoven have added to their defensive options with the capture of Portuguese prodigy Manuel da Costa from French side AS Nancy-Lorraine.

High hopes
The 20-year-old centre-back has agreed a five-year contract with the Dutch champions and becomes new coach Ronald Koeman's second summer signing after goalkeeper Oscar Moens. Da Costa has been given the No14 shirt and a trip to the club's training base has whetted his appetite for next season. "It will be a beautiful base to grow and develop with PSV. The atmosphere is relaxed and I obviously know PSV from their excellent performances in the Champions League."

'Very talented'
As well as his ten appearances in Ligue 1 last term - with his debut coming in January - Da Costa scored a memorable individual goal to help Nancy defeat Le Mans UC 72 in the French League Cup semi-finals. Nancy went on to lift the trophy and qualify for the 2006/07 UEFA Cup. He also caught the eye representing Portugal at the Toulon Under-20 tournament in May 2006, having resisted calls to play for France where he was born. Koeman said: "He is a very talented defender. I am happy we have been able to sign him."

Coelho assina pelo Inter
Avançado formado no FC Porto

in record.pt
23.07.2006

by Carina Mendes
in MaisFutebol
02.08.2006

This article forgot to mention the small detail that Pedro Marques started his career as a youth in Sporting winning the Portuguese Championship of Under-15 (Iniciados) in the same team of Rui Patrício and Fábio Paim.

in MaisFutebol
07.08.2006

«No Benfica compram muitos jogadores estrangeiros e é difícil despontar.

On Sporting and Benfica's young loaned players
by André
in Luso Football

Benfica's great promising young player circa 2005 Hélio Roque is already following the footsteps of João Vilela and making arrangements to rescind his contract with the club (in 12 months time João Coimbra will do likewise).

Meanwhile he'll be loaned out to Olivais e Moscavide until December, I will try to go and see some of their games because there's 4 or 5 interesting young players loaned out to that club that I'd like to keep my eye out for them, in particular Bruno Pereirinha who at 18 could just as easily be playing his 2nd Junior year at Sporting in 06/07 but instead was loaned out to a 2nd division club which is odd because he's IMO one of Sporting's Juniors best players.

Apparently Malaga and PAOK are in the play to sign Hélio Roque (as what? A street sweeper?) in the near future and there's now the very real possibility of Roque playing for the Angolan National Squad (he was born in Angola).

Meanwhile Olivais e Moscavide is playing with Pedro Celestino (VERY good player), Carlos Saleiro (scored a goal), and is expected to have Bruno Pereirinha, André Marques and Hélio Roque in it's line-up ASAP. They also have Márcio Santos who was a very interesting young GK in Académica very recently.

This is a very interesting young team, Celestino and Pereirinha are 2 thirds of Sporting's Juniors 4-3-3 midfield trio. Roque was Benfica's Juniors top scorer in 03/04, Saleiro was Sporting's Juniors top scorer in 04/05, etc

Meanwhile to the West, Estoril is playing with Zezinando Correia and David Caiado.

And at Vitória de Setúbal they are wisely playing Silvestre Varela at right-winger either in 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 and I'm glad because he's not a Nº9 at all in my book and Luis Lourenço is getting that role.

It would be pretty cool if Pedro Celestino and Bruno Pereirinha brought Moscavide up a division in 06/07, if you're looking for references then Celestino reminds me of Nani and Pereirinha of Moutinho.
Celestino is a very virtuous creative player with footwork which leaves no doubt as to his quality, we got a very promissing player right there, which can be seen in the way he "treats" the ball. In the final game of the season vs Boavista he was raising holy hell in midfield, by far the player in the XI who played with most clarity and purpose.

Coelho shines in Appiano Gentile
24.08.2006

José Alves is his name, but everybody knows him as 'Coelho' (Rabbit). The midfielder, that last season was playing at FC Porto, went to shine at Inter, Luís Figo's squad.

In spite of being only 16, the capped U-17 midfielder signed a professional contract with the Italians, valid for the next 3 seasons. An enormous amount of pride and responsibility, as he is the only player from Inter's U-17 squad to have a professional contract.

"In the beginning it's difficult. My football skills seem not wanting to come out and I feel sad for not being able to show what I am capable of. But with time and with the feeling of adaptation everything becomes easier. Inter made a big bet on me and I want to pay back. It is an enormous pride to have a professional contract and I know that if I work on my limits I may one day be part of the main squad." said Coelho.

Used to Portugal, Coelho rapidly fell in love with Italy, highlighting however some differences with the Portuguese football...mainly physical ones.

"It's not easy! In Portugal we mainly work on the technical level, but in Italy the physical aspect is more focused on. Only to have an idea, at the start of the pre-season we trained 6 hours a day", explained.

"I haven't managed yet to meet Luís Figo"

His colleagues at Inter look at Coelho with an enormous respect, simply for the fact of the midfielder being Portuguese, which means, the same nationality of Luís Figo, one of the idols of the younger ones.

"In Italy they hold Portuguese football and our footballers an enormous amount of respect. They love Figo and don't stop praising our football. It's a great pride for me.", said, regretting however the fact of not having yet had the chance to meet the former captain of our National Team: "I haven't managed yet. We train in different places and the scedules do not fit. It's a shame!"

About the future. Coelho only thinks on having success at Inter and trying to follow the steps of his idols: Luís Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Exit of Ricardo Semedo criticised
"The club of Luz is managed by kids"

by Vítor Oliveira
Transl. from Sportugal
19.09.2006

Vitória de Guimarães did not like that the U-17 defender Ricardo Semedo, that was on Chelsea's agenda, signed a deal with Benfica.
The leader of Vitória, António Salgado Almeida, delivered, to the weekly newspaper "Desportivo de Guimarães", hard criticism against the responsibles for the youth department of the Lisbon club, regretting the break of a "non-aggression pact" that was set between the two clubs.

"We were confronted, a few weeks ago, with the non-agreed transfer of Semedo to Benfica. One does that through the payment of a clause set by law. Benfica did it and did not say a word to Vitória. We thought Benfica had serious people managing their youth department and would warn us of their interest. That has been the attitude of Sporting, FC Porto and Braga."

Salgado Almeida, who lead the Semedo affair since it was mentioned by Sportugal the possibility of the 15-year old player to be observed by big clubs, explains his sorrow, showing "surprise" with the position of the "reds". "Benfica is a great club, but unfortunately has leading their youth department a group of kids with no moral principles, with no character and with no shame".

Benfica paid 22.000 euros

Still in the same weekly paper, published today, the director of Vitória de Guimarães revealed that Benfica had a "cowardly" attitude in the way they dealt with the transfer of Ricardo Semedo.
"We hoped we could say other than this but, faced with the recurring behaviour of the youth department of Benfica, we have to say that in this way they will not make it. They are not on the right path and we know they've been having serious conflicts with other clubs due to the way they approach young talents."

Salgado Almeida still revealed that Benfica paid "around 22.000 euros", amount set for the non-agreed transfer of a U-17 player. According to the law, V. Guimarães may still receive formation rights in the future, in case it will be agreed an eventual transfer of Ricardo Semedo to another club.

Stolen? Stop being an idiot.
His contract was over. Benfica had only to pay a certain amount of money requested by law/regulations and they paid immediatly.
So Vitória is upset because we did everything necessary but didn't feel the need to talk to them? Talk to them about what? There was nothing to talk about.

And this is all in the news you posted. But, even after reading it, you have to troll about stealing.

Whatever...

I post something I've read about the behaviour of the manager's of the youth department of one of the big football clubs in Portugal.

I eventually expect people to comment on what happened.

What do I get? One guy insulting me and saying that what his club did was allright.

Comments?

Nope.

#26 ·
You are slow, aren't you? I couldn't care less what you think is an insult or not. In fact, I think it was a fair assessment of your character but that's another story.

I did comment on the story, and your idiotic comment that argued a steal or some sort of wrong doing from Benfica part. In that same comment I wrote why there was no wrong doing, just another guy trying to get media exposure even though he admits everything was done correctly.

But to you, that was not a comment.

I'm happy this discussion took place in this forum. At least my comment gets to stay up...
