Moratti eyes stadium switch Thursday 16 November, 2006

Inter President Massimo Moratti has revealed that the club could leave the San Siro and build a new stadium in Milan.
The Nerazzurri moved to their current venue in 1947, having previously played at the Arena, in the centre of the city.
However, they are now considering a move seeing as the Stadio Meazza is owned by the city of Milan and the concession is becoming more and more expensive.
"We are thinking about a stadium which will be entirely for us,” said Moratti. “It is an interesting project, that must be studied carefully.”
Newspaper Il Giornale has suggested Inter are planning to build a new stadium in Rogoredo, a neighbourhood in the western part of town.
“We have wasted many years trying to solve the San Siro issue. I believe the city council should speak with us, in order to understand what the options are.”
The concession ends in 2010 and Moratti is studying an £85m project to build a new stadium which could accommodate 60,000 fans.
Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani had also declared in the past few weeks that the Rossoneri were considering a new venue.
However, former Inter star Beppe Bergomi does not like the idea of leaving the San Siro. “Why another stadium? Our history is linked to the current one,” said Lo Zio.
“I don’t believe that moving would make any sense, traditions must be respected,” added the former Nerazzurri defender.
Many clubs could have a chance to get access to funds for renovating the stadiums as Italy is bidding to host the European Championships in 2012.
