I suggest we take a break form the silly summer season aka the transfer market, and take a look at the one that really counts - the trainings and the friendly games. Here is sth from acmilan.com

ALL OF MILAN'S GAMES IN THE SUMMER OF 2008

Milanello, 16 July 2008: Reunion of the first team
In Lombardy, before 26 July 2008: first friendly against an as yet unknown opponent
Turin, 29 July 2008: Milan-Inter-Juventus, Tim Trophy
Moscow, 31 July-3 August 2007: Lokomotiv Moscow-Milan-Real Madrid-Psv Eindhoven.
San Siro, 17 August 2008: Milan-Juventus, Luigi Berlusconi Trophy
.Between Moscow and Berlusconi Trophy: possible friendly, opponent to be decided
31 August 2008: 1st matchday Serie A
.Between Berlusconi Trophy and start of the season: possible friendly, opponent to be decided.

I couldnt care less in the moment about our friendly schedule... it more or less looks like every summer anyway (Berlusconi Cup, some friendly tournament with Inter and Juve, one or two international mini cups or friendlies).

So far, there isn't a player I am eager to finally watch in a Milan dress, which IMO is the only reason I used to be keen on the summer friendly matches.
Borriello I already know how he looks like in a Milan jersey, dito Gobbiati (and it doesnt thrill me). Zambrotta... beh, after his splendid assist to Mutu, I can do a few more weeks without him in a Milan jersey as well. Maybe Flamini, but thats it.

this is exactly the attitude i hate the most. We have two summers here: the virtual, rumours-type, artificial, silly mercato and the real one, the summer camps, the real games with the real players we have. Yet most fans would prefer to focus on the sureal one and couldn't care less about th real. I will never get it. I much prefer watching a real Milan game(s), seeing how the team trains, play together, try different formations, see the future bench warmers in action, see the team grow game by game, tactics shape up, etc. So by the time of game 1, i have a good idea who is who and why. Yet most fans would rather keep it to goal.com and calciomeracto.it .... The DOT is the most important aspect of one team these days. Shochingly ridiculous.

It is always important to watch Tim cup and rule out the winner as a seriea contender. Sadly that was with the old Juve. The new Juve seems to fix games in a different way :googly:

#21 ·
On topic: I hope we try out all the new players in these warm up games, including Antonini. There have been years were the bench players didn't get much of a chance even in these games...

#22 ·
the thing is that i have never had this opportunity before - to be able to watch the entire summer games period and prepare well for the real season. I am not syaing I will now, but I might and that is exciting.
I also hope to get to see all players, see Bori and Anto in action, see Zambrotta 1st minutes at Milan, see Flamini. Whatever happens on the transfer market b/n now and then, this is a new Milan and there will be new things to see.

The last time I saw a player's first minute with Milan, he flopped for 2 years, after being dubbed as the next big thing :depress:

#31 ·
A new Milan in the making? Ma... if you consider replacing 2-3 starters in the very same formation a 'new Milan', then yes, maybe. Otherwise... dream on.

#33 ·
I am indiffierent to the second due to the first. Since we have signed only another Tavano like Borriello, a gobbo average goalie, a (probably) washed up terzino we should have signed maybe 2 ago and Flamini, I am not very eager on the friendlies.

You know, IMO friendlies can be interesting in two cases: First they are thrilling if you have no other chance to watch Milan... I travelledl to one of those friendly tournaments (Ajax one, vs Amsterdam, Valencia and Pool) with friends cause I hadnt had the oppurtunity back then to watch the real matches live.
Second, they are interesting if you sign some big and interesting player you are absolutely eager to finally watch in a Milan jersey. Back then, Nesta and Seedorf for example. If Juve signs Xabi Alonso, I can understand if they are eager to watch Xabi A. and Amauri working together. When we got Kluivert, Ba, Ziege and Co (all big and promising players on the paper), I was eager to watch them trash Juve in the Berlu trophy (back then, the first case was valid for me as well, i.e. lack of real matches). If we sign Eto'o, Zapata and Boruc, I would be eager to watch them play together with Flamini as well. Or take's Inter's signing of Mourinho... let them just add one or two players, this would be enough to get excited, cause evidently Mourinho's Inter will look different from Mancio's one.

However considering how the team looks right now, there is nothing to see I dont know already, beside Flamini and Zambrotta (and the later one doesnt really thrill me a lot after his last seasons with Barca and his current display with Italy).

So in a certain way, the attractivity of the friendlies, for me, currently depend on the way the team will look like. I dont think the friendlies tell a lot about real tactical changes and stuff in the real season cause let's face it, there is one thing to try to play a 4-3-3 vs Lecco, another one playing it against Lecce et al in the the Serie A ;) so screw them, esp. when the coach is still the same. I just care about the new faces, otherwise I am absolutely indiffirent towards summer friendlies.

The rumours about transfers? They suck, esp. since we all deep inside know that Berlu doesnt care anymore and prefers to spend his money for yet another summer residence in Tuscany rather than improving Milan, which obviously is his good right to do so. So no, I dont like either the silly mercato season and Gallianis imbecile interviews, esp. when you expect your rivals to improve more than you do, nor the friendlies with basically the same side that sucked so badly last season.

I just want the EURO to finish and then take a deep breath and hope for a miracle at the end of August.

I was there too. Although Nesta & Seedorf didn't sign till following summer. We had Pippo, Rui, Pirlo, Laursen in that team.

Agreed about watching friendlies, although I like to see if some youngsters get a chance. If only to see a new signing, that makes the fans dream, unlike the last few seasons of nightmares.

Tony: Were you alive when Carlo played 3-4-3 and 3-5-2? :D

#37 ·
You wish he did.

Yes, I couldnt really remember when the Ajax tournament was. I was just giving the names of Clarence and Nesta as an example for exciting big signings. Obviously getting Pippo, Rui and Pirlo back then was thrilling as well. And Terim as a new coach with a different approach to the game.
Yeah, it was a different philosophy. I remember whenever we conceded a fk, the players would throw the ball between 2 of them to give others a chance to recover. The midfield in 1st match was Donati, Gattuso, Serginho & Rui.

It was back in 2001, the following season I was in Madrid for that tournament, but Nesta didn't sign till late August, but we played great football. Seedorf was amazing, as was Pirlo.

There's really nothing to get excited about. So far. The additions, bar Flamini, aren't really the type to make you wanna see their first games. Add that to the fact that it is the same, old Ancelotti, you know there isn't antyhing in the offing to get your hopes up. He's fixed on one formation and one alone, so nothing new really.

I have to agree with you, there.

Our team is the same as last year WHEN we played horrible (exept vs Inert :)) ... And Flamini won't be a big change in our game he'll just fill for either Rino or Ambro.

It looks like nowdays we are only buying cheap (or we don't buy at all)...

Manu, you should watch the pre-season games only to see Abate and wether or not he will show enough to be allowed to stay for next season. Though these friendlies will hardly determine that alone.

#52 ·
Ozzy, I bet you Abate will be sold or loaned before all friendlies in the summer period will be over. And excuse me if Abate alone as youngster isnt enough to get me excited about the TIM trophy or Berlusconi trophy. At least you guys will have Giovinco and Amauri and probably a couple more to look forward to.

#53 ·
I'm looking forward to Giovinco, Amauri, Marchisio, De Ceglie (mostly him because hardly ever seen him), in parts Mellberg and Xabi Alonso (+ whatever Primavera kid) if he gets signed today as he is rumoured to.

I hardly watch the Tim cup either, but I tend to watch the other friendly games. The Tim and Berlu cups usually suck ALOT. And him alone isnt enough to excite you, but there is a slight chance he may stay next season, and seeing him play for you briefly can be interesting enough, Abate is quite good.

See, what did I say? No chance they give a young talented player a chance if they have Brocco and Emerson as super jollies. :rollani:

I have nothing to look forward to so far, concerning the summer friendlies.

#58 ·
Thats sucks, even if it was predictable. Will you loan him or sell him? Hopefully you sell him ;)
