Ahhhhh damn i might as well say it....

most self-respecting humans would go with maldini..... no technical debates are needed for such an obviuos answer

The only, and I repeat the only thing Cole has over Maldini and will ever have is speed. And thats not the only thing required by a left back.

However, the 1st two games revealed that we might be running in some probs or at least that the D is not as solid as we thought. Mostly b/s of age. Both Cafu and Paolo had shaky games
running into problems, shaky games, surely not ? :D

Cole's improved a lot over the last one and a half season. To me he curently defines the role of wing backs. He's like a young Maldini. The only diference between them is Maldini has better game-reading defensively, composure and are better in his tackles. Cole is quicker, faster reflexes/recovery, and closes up on the plyer he's defending.

Better left-back of curent time (as in the last few months), Cole by a whisker. Better defender of current time (as in the last few months), Maldini.

of course he is a legend, but this is no reason to make him out better than he is at this current time, do you also think he is better than Zambrotta ?

Like his previous 20, Maldini has just had a sensational season last year, better than Zambrotta. Comparing Cole to Maldini is a bit like comparing Britney Spears to Ella Fitzgerald. Till Maldini plays he will be considered a legend; Just like Zidane, even if he wasn't terrific last tuesday, you can't even dare compare him with a simply good player that performed well the same day. Comparing Maldini to Cole for me is insulting, regardless of what you me or anybody judge both players. Till Maradona, Van Basten, Pele, Bobby Charlton or any other legend in the history of the game set foot on a football field, nobody dared comparing then to any Mr. New. The day Maldini will feel he is no longer able to play up to his standards, he will be the first one to know that the day of his active football playing days are over. We are "discussing" a legend of Football here (7 Serie A titles and 4 CL), not some 2 year good seasons player

Moreista, you seem to have a problem with your left and rights, Cole and Zidane would only be on the same flank if they played for the same team. :D

as it happens Zidane did venture on to Cole's flank a few times against England and got seen off easily by Ash as Pires had been seen off before him.

Yes i was caught out there..... so i will be figo.... i mean...the two inter change so i have the insurance policy there...but figo is the best winger around even today (vincente is close) so i cant see cole taking him out....maybe we will see

Diavolo, that is rot, of course you can compare them when playing in the same position, it's not insulting to Maldini at all, his legendary status is guaranteed, nothing can change that, you make it sound like blasphemy ;)
