Another tough test in the league.

Villareal might not have lived up to the expectations this season since they're very inconsistent in the league despite having a good squad and the fans are expressing their dissatisfaction after growing tired of the bad results however as it's been shown in the last few years they always have the bad tendancy to get good results when they visit the Catalan fortress.

Nihat who's suffered from the famous cruciate ligaments injury has been ruled out for 6 months and Riquelme for personal reasons will miss the game wich is good news for us.

On the Barcelona side, The 1rst diagnosis showed that Marquez's injury is not as bad as first feared and he could be ready for this game. He won't be rushed though.
Belletti will also be available after recovering from his leg injury picked up two weeks ago wich means one player will be left out out of the convocatory if Frank decides to select him for this match.
Deco is suspended after getting his 5th yellow card against Mallorca so Xavi will take his place in the starting XI.

Probable line-up:

----------------Valdes--------------
--Zambrotta-Puyol----Marquez---Gio---
----------------Edmilson-----------
---------Xavi-------------Iniesta----
--Giuly---------------------------Ronaldinho
-----------------Guddy--------------

Time and Venue:
Liga | Saturday, 25 Nov. FCB-Villarreal (20:00) CET R 12 | Camp Nou.

They truly have important missings in every line. Traditionally, it's a team that has always been a nightmare for us in Barcelona, but this time, playing at home, considering the circumstances, we must win this game. In any case, it'd be a mistake to underrate them. Even though they've been incosistent, they're doing a bit better lately and they still have a good team.

After Motta's recent performances, I think Rijkaard might be tempted to put him in the starting line up. Thuram or Oleguer might play instead of Marquez, which I think he deserves a rest after the knock he reseved earlier tonight. Belleti should come in for Zambrotta for a couple of minutes at the end of the match, to get him back into shape.

Carles, why does Rijkaard have to drop one of the players since Deco is suspended and can't be in the squad for that match? I mean Deco out Belleti in.

You're right.
I only remembered Deco's suspension when i was about to post the thread so i forgot to delete the part where i said someone will be left out from the 18 men list.

Thanks for correcting me.

I agree, good post mate. Also, I have a feeling Ezquerro will play atleast some 20 minutes in this game.

Should win this game having in mind all the villareal absentees. But wat's up with Thuram not playing at all even as a sub. I mean in the mallorca game when puyol had a knock riijkard chose to sub puyol with zambrotta and move oleguer to the center. Then in the Sofia game when Marquez had to be forced out he got Oleguer in. With all do respect to Oleguer who ive seen has improved immensly since his beginnings, but Thuram is world class and should be treated better.

I'd like to give this a try:
Valdés
Belletti/Oleguer-Puyol-Márquez-Zambrotta

If Belletti is fit, he should start on the right or else we should just play Oleguer. The reason is that I want to see if Zambrotta might play better on the left side than on the right. It would feel more natural for him to support Ronaldinho on the left, with his left foot than Giuly on the right. Maybe that can get Ronaldinho moving, even tho Sylvinho and Gio are good going forward as well, it might just be what we need.

And maybe, just maybe, I want to see Belletti again. :lala:

Oleguer is 26, he is the kind of players who stay with the club until retirement, without demanding high salary, and he proved his worth (we won two ligas and CL with him), I'm not comparing him to Thuram, but I really didnt see thuram superior to him with barcelona! whoever Rijkaard's play, just dont make Oleguer a "copa de la rey" palyer.. he deserves more...

I agree he's a proud catalan and as long as he plays as RB not CB I would like to see him in the starting line up against teams that attack from the wings. On the other hand I think Zambrotta is more suitable for this mission against Villarreal.

Bleeding Blaugrana doesn't make him a good player. Given that all the foreign players are technically "mercenaries", it shouldn't matter. Thuram is better than Oleguer in every sense of the word and should play before Oleguer does. Regardless of what teams they both support.

That is correct iff Thuram showed better quality with barca. I only say that, at the moment, thuram and Oleguer are almost the same level on the pitch (forget the history), so its not reasonable to bench Oleguer all the time, specially that he is "bleeding blaugarana", and he is younger, and and and...
Just give them both equal chance to play! I didnt see Oleguer playing badly when he was given the chance, so why preasuambly putting him on bench!

And you know what, even if thuram showed a little margin over oleguer, i think a wise decision is to insist on giving oleguer his chance! Thats how young players are raised in quality, being the son of the club and 10 years younger than your position-contender is absolutely an advantage for you, specially in a liga match, at home, against villareal (I mean not a CL final)..

Thuram is better than Oleguer? He was better than Oleguer last season. This season I can't remember Thuram showing any of his alleged world class. All I see is a slow defender who seems to be half-asleep. He needs to deserve his starting spot first.

And it does matter what team our players support. They must care about the team in order to give their best. Zambrotta only cares about Juve

Roman will not play this game after he left for Argentina to be beside his wife who gave birth to his third kid! Lame lame lame reason! Roman have not played against Barca in Nou Camp since he moved to Villarreal!

You guys must be watching different games from me. Thuram HAS already shown ability for defending that Oleguer could never hope to possess on his best day even though he has to adapt to a new league. A couple of less than top notch performances don't take that away. And unless I'm mistaken, Oleguer always supported Barca, and up to and including last season people were wailing and gnashing their teeth at the very suggestion that he would play a game for us.

Point is, Oleguer is a decent player, but he's not starting material over a long patch of games. If somone says that they would rather have Oleguer in than Thuram against the likes of Chelsea and Milan, then frankly I call that person a liar.

i think Thuram is a very secure defender and very curageous. I personally would have him before Marquez for that matter, but i am not sure if thuram has ever played in that position and to be honest, haven't seen him play in a long time. I wouldn't put him on the right since Zambrotta is more valuable in terms of attack and just as good defensively with great discipline and positon.

if it was vanbronkhorst - puoyl - thuram - zambrotta
it would be very balanced and secure.

You're right. I never realised that. He's a coward :D

Villareal on their day can be magnificant. They're one of the few teams, and the first one to give this Barça a lesson in football. They are not that team anymore though, even with signings that should have made them stronger.

We should easily win this one, especially since Villareal are at a low, and missing key players. I think Rijkaard will rotate some players, especially the fullbacks. I'd like to see Oleguer or Thuram have a start, but I'd prefer Oleguer (simply because I am Oleguerista :D). I haven't seen Villareal play this season, except against Madrid, so I can't really say much. But with players like Cygan and Pena in their defense, we should slice them up real easy. Giuly loves slow and incompetent defenders, and Ronnie will keep looking for him. Expect Ronaldinho to have another amazing game, this guy saves his best performance for the Camp Nou

I'd like to see this:

Belletti--------Ole/Thuram-----Puyol------Sylvinho

------------------------Motta

------------Xavi------------------Iniesta

Giuly-------------------------------------Ronnie

-----------------------Guddy

Visca Barça :strong:
