The kid looks absolutely dynamite. And has by all accounts already been signed.

With Icardi most likely leaving for more money and CL football, this guy is really a ray of hope.

Looks to be at a more advanced stage than Icardi was at that age (20), and he also looks a far better dribbler than Icardi, who can't dribble for sh*t.

He's scored 2 hattricks in the last month, one a couple of days ago in the Libertadores:

If he suffers from homesickness and scores a goal every 2 games like he does at Racing, then I won't be too upset.

#3 ·
This deal is now done, despite a late attempt by Dortmund to sabotage the deal.

He will no doubt be either Icardi's understudy or Icardi's replacement.

#4 ·
I thought both of them will play in the starting line-up. Didn't his agent said that my client is going in Inter to play next to Icardi, not to replace him....

#6 ·
Obviously his agent will say that. Gabigol's agent probably said the same thing.

No agent would ever realistically say "my player is going to warm Icardi's seat while he scores a hattrick".

And Ausillio and Zanetti probably also told Lautaro he will get a place in the line-up.

However, this stands in stark opposition to a couple of pretty important facts:

1) Almost no top team in the world plays with 2 strikers. It is an outdated system that in every case means losing a man in midfield. It is not 2005 anymore.

Barcelona is not an exception to this rule since Messi occupies about 5 positions across the pitch in every game. Suarez basically just has a supporting cast of midget wingers/playmakers around him.

2a) Spaletti does not play with 2 strikers. Lautaro is a striker, Icardi is a striker.

2b) Spaletti RARELY gives big opportunities to young, inexperienced players where there is an older established player he can turn to. The non-use of Dalbert and Karamoh is a great example here. So is his treatment of Gerson, Paredes etc. at Roma.

My guess is that Lautaro is being groomed as a replacement for Icardi. I think there's a decent chance Icardi will stay one more season IF Inter qualify for the CL. If we don't, I think he's gone.

Lautaro will be Inter hit
Football Italia

Inter pulled off ‘a real coup’ to sign Lautaro Martinez, who will have no problems adapting to Serie A, according to ex-Cagliari and Uruguay star Enzo Francescoli.

Martinez will join Inter from Racing Club this summer, the striker arriving with a reputation as one of the brightest prospects to recently emerge from South American football.

“Martinez is currently the best striker in the Argentine League,” Francescoli told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Despite being very young, he’s already shown a discreet personality, combined with excellent technical skills. Inter pulled off a real coup [to sign him].

“Obviously he’ll have to try and adapt to a new way of life. However, I don’t think he’ll have big problems adapting to Italy.”

Lautaro ‘half Icardi, half Higuain’

Lautaro Martinez is a mix of Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi, according to former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

There is real curiosity as to what Martinez will offer Inter when he arrives from Racing Club, and Cambiasso believes have bought themselves a clinical finisher in the 20-year-old.

“Icardi? In Argentina, there’s always talk about the abundance of quality that the Coach Sampaoli has in attack,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think that’ll lead to Higuain, Aguero and Lautaro Martinez being taken to the World Cup, which is very good.

“Can he play with Icardi? Good players can always play together. As for his quality, he’s more similar to Higuain, although Pipita is stronger outside the box.

“He’s in between [Higuain] and Icardi. As for Icardi, I think the fault lies with the way [Inter] play. They’re not supporting him enough.”

Lautaro ready for Inter medical

Football Italia

Racing Club and Argentina sensation Lautaro Martinez should have his Inter medical in a couple of weeks, it’s reported.

The two clubs have already agreed terms and sources in Argentina suggest the 20-year-old will be in Milan within the next 14 days to have his medical tests.

He has been extraordinary this season, scoring 15 goals with five assists in 21 competitive games, including five goals in just four Copa Libertadores matches.

It’s believed Inter will pay the first instalment in July 2018, with the remaining sum next year for a total €25m.

Next week will be the time for Inter to wrap up the transfer of Lautaro Martinez from Racing Club. The Argentinian forward is expected to fly to Italy on May 23rd to complete the final step which is the medical exam. Martinez is having a great season with Racing, scoring 12 goals in 19 games in Primera Division and 5 goals in Copa Libertadores.

In Argentina, people are surprised at this rapid growth of the player including Carlos Tevez.

“Lautaro has had a very good season and Magallan has surprised me very much. I have always said that when he left Boca, he was a hot head and now that he is back, they have found themselves a real leader in the defense. I think that there are several players doing very well in Argentinian football but those two struck me the most.”

Martinez: ‘Best moment of my life’

Football Italia

New Inter striker Lautaro Martinez calls signing “the best day of my life” and admits he got advice from Diego Milito.

The Racing Club striker was at the Nerazzurri’s headquarters to sign his contract this afternoon, and spoke to reporters after leaving.

“I’ll do my best, the people have so many hopes here,” Martinez said, though he hasn’t yet been officially announced.

“Milito told me so much about Inter, I was lucky enough to share the Racing dressing room with him and he told me what he experienced here.

“I’m ready, I can’t wait to get started and this is the best day of my life. I’m happy with the choice I made.”

He won't start alongside Icardi - I am quite sure of that.

The guy is not a winger, nor is he a Number 10 in the technical/positional sense (regardless of his squad number)

I like his nickname: El Toro

Still think he'll hardly get a kick of a football unless Icardi goes to Real Madrid or Bayern

Scored in our pre-season friendly against Lugano tonight. Nainggolan and Politano both involved in the goal, good to see.

Btw can someone start a thread for pre-season? red? Firdy? candy? Nacka?

#17 ·
Should be a really good signing for Inter; the kid has looked extremely talented every time I've seen him. However, of course, these often just don't work for a number of factors.

#20 ·
Inter Forever, I remember that guy because he used to post useful translated stuff from Gazzetta etc.. :)

Welcome back dude.

Oh and Firdy you cvnt, do the pre-season thread already.

If not, then Inter Forever is welcome to do it instead :)

#22 ·
You probably said the same about Gabigol.

Anyway, Lautaro is, according to everyone in South America, a superb player, and from the friendly action played so far he looks pretty sensational. But there is no room for a 2nd striker in Spaletti's teams, unless the team is trailing and needs a goal.

He is not a winger.

Obviously Icardi will need some rest, but Inter probably won't be participating in the CL for very long, so he won't need that much rest.

No doubt Lautaro will clearly get a reasonable amount of time coming off the bench, which may be enough to double or triple his value by the end of the season, by which time I assume one of he and Icardi will be sold since it is fairly pointless having both in the long term. Real Madrid's attack became much more focused and successful when they stopped the constant and ridiculous Higuain-Benzema rotation.

Martinez hails ‘great’ Icardi
Football Italia

Lautaro Martinez has praised ‘great’ Inter teammate Mauro Icardi for ‘helping me a lot both on and off pitch’.

Martinez teed up Icardi for Inter’s winner against Olympique Lyonnais* :googly: , while the two Argentine forwards look to have the makings of a promising partnership.

“The goal was very nice, but I'm happy because we played very well against very tough opponents,” he said after the match.

“They made a lot of fouls. I have to get used to it, but I come from a physical League like the Argentine one.

“Mauro Icardi helps me a lot both on and off the pitch. Mauro’s a great teammate and he’s helping me achieve my objectives.”

*Whoever wrote this clearly didn't watch the match.

Dalbert can't catch a break. :(

Lautaro was played behind Icardi for the Lyon match. We can't read to much into that though because it was an ultra-attacking lineup with Karamoh and Politano as well.

#27 ·
Dalbert can't catch a break. :(

.
It sounds like he has improved dramatically - certainly from what Spaletti has said about him. And thank God, because he was a large investment and we have limited depth at left-back - although Vrsaljko, D'Ambro, Aasamoah, Dalbert is clearly the best selection since the Treble

Once the Croatians are back and Nainggolan is fit Lautaro will, unfortunately, be dropped to the bench. That is certain.

I see him mostly being an impact sub, Icardi's deputy (though Mauro is rarely injured) and a starter in the Coppa.

Pity, because he looks an incredible player.

#28 ·
Sick goal by Martinez against Atletico. Nice work by Asamoah in picking him out but Martinez had to do the spectacular to convert it.

This vid will probably be taken down so watch it while you can:

#29 ·
Quite Ibra-esque goal.

Best part of the game was Diego Costa losing his shit and getting yellow carded for mouthing off to the ref, in a freaking friendly.

#30 ·
I don't remember a similar goal scored by Zlatan for Inter but he did score great goals for us. The most spectacular I recall are the back-heel v Bologna in 08-09, the lob v Reggina (same season) and the 4-3 derby goal when he owned Nesta (06-07) Any particular goal you remember for being similar, Nacka?

So Lautaro finished as our top scorer in pre-season with goals against Lugano, Zenit, Lyon and Atletico. I guess it's only right he starts at Sassuolo, especially with Nainggolan being a question mark in terms of fitness.

#32 ·
I was mostly referring to the agility and skill involved in the goal. Looking at the cross you get the sense that it's too long for Lautaro to do anything with it, but then he pulls something out of the bag. Can't remember a particular goal that's really similar, he scored some goals for PSG that are somewhat similar though.

Because of the angle, maybe this?

Among his other spectacular goals, there's the long range goal vs CSKA Moscow and the free kick blaster against Fiorentina.
If I recall correctly, juve lost a Serie B match on the same day we won that match at Torino :D

Zlatan and Cuchu were joint motm in the comeback v CSKA.

I think Zlatan only scored 2 free kicks for us, the Fiorentina one you mentioned and also at Palermo. Both were blasted and both in the same season (08-09)

He scored quite a memorable header for Inter, the one against PSV in 07-08.
