This is a player we should have gotten in the summer. Better late than never though, will be interesting to see how Honda does in Milan.

I really hope that Allegri plays Honda, El Shaarawy and Kaká behind Balotelli with Poli, Cristante and Saponara as backups.

Honda and Kagawa were class against Oranje. In the second half Oranje had nothing to tell. Japan controlled the game thanks to Honda for the biggest part.

For a country with such a huge population and money (infrastructure) it really isn't that impressive.

 

Money isn't really a big positive factor. If anything it is more usual for people from a poor/troubled background to make it in football.

Money just give them good facilities, even if space if a problem over there.

 

Yeah, it's still pretty impressive coming from nowhere in the early 90s when it all started and when the J League was laughed at.

Gives hope to other nations that something can be achieved in 25 years. China would love to be where Japan is at the moment.

 

What I find impressive are countries like Uruguay, Croatia or even Bosnia now who have a very limited pool to choose from (Uruguay 3m, Croatia 4m, Bosnia less than 3m if you take into account how many choose to play for Croatia and Serbia) and with very limited resources (potato pitches with very few professional coaches).

Not a country of 130m people with crazy resources, that's still imo worse than the 3 countries that I listed. "crazy", "amazing" or even "impressive" just aren't applicable here.

 

Croatia more though if you include all the diaspora and the odd Brazilian here and there but yeah, that's impressive too, especially Uruguay.

Having said that, like posters mentioned, sports are seen as something to get a better living from in South America and the former Yugoslavia.

Becoming a professional football player however isn't something you'll impress your parents with though in an Asian family. It's looked down upon.

 

Well in the former Yugoslavia countries if you aren't an alcoholic you're cast out of the society so that evens your last point out
