Rossi scored in his debut for Mann Utd last week. I think it's a good idea to convoke him now for a friendly, get that cap done, because he won't be in the WC, and later Italy might lose him.
Are you serious?

Totally agree!!
An important friendly though, its like a new level up, we should manage to win it in order to gain confidence, as during this year every game will have its own importance for each player inthe Azzuri squad, lets see how we'll take this test!!

Who the hell is Rossi? I don't watch the EPL and I honestly don't really know him. If he is under 21, he can be called for the Azzurrini and still will be unavailbe to play for any other country after that. At least that was the case with a Brazilian who wanted to play for the Bulgarian NT.

a good test for lippi. holland have a very good team and i dont think it will be easy for italy.

as for rossi, it may be a little early yet. but he definitely has the potential to make it big.

i would like to think even though cassano hasnt done much this season, he would be the man to bring back in before rossi.

are you serious?? check out the compilation of him in the youth players in the italian NT forum. he's insane. great left foot and if cassano doesnt get his act together then rossi should AND will take over his spot for the euro 2008

Gazzetta reports that after playing Holland we will face the Ivory Coast on the 16th November in Geneva:

Azzurri: Lippi recalls Oddo Sunday 6 November, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marco Amelia, Christian Abbiati and Massimo Oddo are the new names for Italy’s friendlies against Holland and the Ivory Coast.

Livorno goalkeeper Amelia (pictured) receives his first senior Azzurri call-up after a career in the Under-21 squad and is the only debutant in Marcello Lippi’s latest line-up.

Juventus shot-stopper Abbiati and Lazio full-back Oddo make their returns to the international set-up after a long period outside the fold.

Alessandro Del Piero maintains his place despite struggling to find space at Juventus, while Christian Vieri is also included.

Italy will face Marco van Basten’s Holland in Amsterdam on Saturday evening and take on the Ivory Coast in Geneva on Wednesday.

Italy squad:

Gk: Abbiati (Juventus), Amelia (Livorno), Peruzzi (Lazio)

D: Barzagli (Palermo), Cannavaro (Juventus), Grosso (Palermo), Materazzi (Inter), Nesta (Milan), Oddo (Lazio), Zaccardo (Palermo), Zambrotta (Juventus)

M: Barone (Palermo), Camoranesi (Juventus), De Rossi (Roma), Diana (Sampdoria), Gattuso (Milan), Pirlo (Milan)

F: Totti (Roma), Del Piero (Juventus), Gilardino (Milan), Iaquinta (Udinese), Toni (Fiorentina), Vieri (Milan)

good to see oddo back, even though past form should see grosso and zambrotta taking the full back positions.
Yes i agree, but i think Oddo is an excellent full back, & his crosses are extremely well done!!
I wanted to Chiellini in the squad though, hope he'll feature in the WC squad, he's a good player, young & physically strong, a hot prospect!!

Yes, about time we played a team we can see where the level of certain players are. Unfortunately though it is unlikely some players like Zaccardo, Barzagli, Barone and so on will even feature in this match despite my feelings that they are not good enough. Glad to see Abbiatti back in the side considering he is our 2nd or 3rd most talented goalkeeper still playing today.

Chiellini is helping the u21, maybe when he is back, hopefully Zaccardo is dropped, but this is just a dream it seems.

I feel the starting team is great because we have players from the top teams of Europe in it, but the back-up team is weak because we have all mid-table players of Serie A in it. I think it is still possible to call other players like Chiellini, Ambrosini and so on when available.

Also the 3rd placed team of Serie A only have 1 player in the squad while a team near the bottom half (Palermo) have 4 players (3 of which are probably not Italy standard even if good players never the less). It might be questionabelt, but isnt a player like Brocchi or Donadel just the same as Barone? Fiore should be there or not? Also Fiorentina's defence has been improving somewhat so dont they have an Italian defender available (Di Loreto aside).

I suppose all questions on Fiorentina will be answered in their next 3 games anyway. So if they come out of that alive, maybe some of their players will be considered for the national squad.

Abbiati? Why? Is De Sanctis injured or something? Peruzzi got injured in the game against Inter, btw, that probably means that someone else will start. Vieri? I'd rather see some of the top scorers this season get a chance to perform for the Azzuri, let's say Tavano or Bonazzoli. You probably know my opinion about Oddo, I think he deserves his chance because of his good performances this season, he has improved his defensive skills considerably, IMO.

Despite not knowing who this Rossi guy is (Seba? Seba for national goalie :pp ), only playing for an official match (WC/EC qualification, ConfedCup, WC/EC tournament) will block you from being called up by another team. A friendly does not count.
