Yes but Conte prefers to call Cerci and El Shawarma

Mattia El Hilali, Moroccan father and Italian mother, has refused the call of the under 18 Italian NT. It's the fourth youngster to refuse the call of the Italian NT after playing for it. The thee previous cases were the well known Mastour, the Portuguese Pedro Almeida and Josè Mauri, who played for the under 21 Italian NT but refused the call of the under 20 because all of a sudden he felt Argentinian again.

Italy U-19 have been doing really well. and Italy isn't exactly accustomed to be doing that well in this age group or really any age group before the U-21.

After qualifying for the next stage in the euros with a 1-1 against Finland, 0-0 england and 3-2 Montenegro they had some impressive wins in friendlies.
Beating serbia 4-1, checks 4-1 and Spain 2-1.

List of the players called up by Di Biagio for the qualification games in Ireland and Andorra. First call for Federico Di Francesco, son of the coach of Sassuolo.

Goalies: Alessio Cragno (Virtus Lanciano), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), Simone Scuffet (Como);
Defenders: Antonio Barreca (Cagliari), Davide Calabria (Milan), Mattia Caldara (Cesena), Andrea Conti (Atalanta), Alex Ferrari (Bologna), Adam Masina (Bologna), Alessio Romagnoli (Milan), Daniele Rugani (Juventus);
Midfielders: Marco Benassi (Torino), Danilo Cataldi (Lazio), Federico Di Francesco (Virtus Lanciano), Rolando Mandragora (Pescara), Luca Mazzitelli (Brescia), Lorenzo Pellegrini (Sassuolo), Stefano Sensi (Cesena);
Forwards: Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Federico Bernardeschi (Fiorentina), Alberto Cerri (Cagliari), Luca Garritano (Cesena), Gaetano Monachello (Atalanta), Federico Ricci (Crotone), Valerio Lorenzo Rosseti (Cesena).

After falling behind early on, Italy recovered to win 4:1 in the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

Next up is Andorra away on Tuesday, which will almost certainly bring three more points and leave Serbia having to win all of their remaining games - including in Italy - to overall the Azzurrini.

The nine group winners qualify directly for the 12-team finals, while the four best runners-up (not counting results against the sixth-placed team) advance to the play-offs, from which the final two teams qualify.

Di Biagio has done a job so far and would be my choice to succeed Conte at the helm of the national team.

He failed to win the previous tournament and that happened because he chose Bianchetti over Romagnoli and Battocchio over Bernardeschi. It was so dumb from him that I would have fired him just after that tournament.

Anyway, Italy defeated Andorra 1-0. Goal scored by Cerri at minute 78.

Yes, ~I remember that, but I would still opt for him particularly because he is very familiar with several of the players who should be promoted to the national team over the next year or so.

How typical of Italy to make such hard work of beating such inferior opposition.

The coach Dal Canto has called up 25 players for a meeting in Coverciano today, but just 18 will make the final list

Goalies: Domenico Coppola (Torino), Gabriel Manuel Meli (Empoli), Alessandro Plizzari (Milan);
Defenders: Alessandro Bastoni (Atalanta), Raoul Bellanova (Milan), Edoardo Bianchi (Juventus), Matteo Gabbia (Milan), Luca Pellegrini (Roma), Carmine Setola (Cesena), Alessandro Tripaldelli (Juventus), Federico Valietti (Inter), Gianmaria Zanandrea (Juventus);
Midfielders: Fabrizio Caligara (Juventus), Christian Capone (Atalanta), Davide Frattesi (Roma), Alessandro Mallamo (Atalanta), Andrea Marcucci (Roma), Filippo Melegoni (Atalanta), Alessio Militari (Fiorentina), Marco Olivieri (Empoli);
Forwards: Gabriele Gori (Fiorentina), Bioty Moise Kean (Juventus), Pietro Pellegri (Genoa), Andrea Pinamonti (Inter), Gianluca Scamacca (PSV Eindhoven).

Pellegri is the new Messi according to the chairman of Genoa Preziosi (!).
Kean is "just" the new Balotelli instead (hopefully just in terms of football).

And Melegoni is atalanta next midfield talent. there must be a reason they have so many midfield talents coming through.

Plizzari is being talked up as next Donnarumma. which is funny as he is just one year younger.

The next Messi didn't make the final list. :D And so didn't Melegoni, which is indeed more impressive as he had been the captain of this team and had played 29 games with the under 17 NT before (!!). I suppose the main reason is an injury Melegoni got in the game with Bosnia and the need for 18 fit players.

If they pan out the way they are suppose to, that forward line will be every country's wish they could have had at one point in their history or future! Another key player in that list is Empoli's Marco Olivieri. I've seen his name making the list at some of Empoli's game this year; him and Alberto Picchi.

Players called up for the friendly of our under 21 NT with France (Venice, next June 2, a friendly for Valeria Solesin)

Portieri Pierluigi Gollini (Verona), Simone Scuffet (Como)
Difensori Antonio Barreca (Cagliari), Davide Biraschi (Avellino), Arturo Calabresi (Brescia), Davide Calabria (Milan), Mattia Caldara (Cesena), Andrea Conti (Atalanta), Alex Ferrari (Bologna), Adam Masina (Bologna), Michele Somma (Brescia)
Centrocampisti Leonardo Capezzi (Crotone), Danilo Cataldi (Lazio), Roberto Gagliardini (Atalanta), Alberto Grassi (Napoli), Luca Mazzitelli (Brescia), Lorenzo Pellegrini (Sassuolo)
Attaccanti Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Alberto Cerri (Cagliari), Luca Garritano (Cesena), Gaetano Monachello (Atalanta), Vittorio Parigini (Perugia), Federico Ricci (Crotone), Valerio Lorenzo Rosseti (Cesena)

Milan didn't concede Donnarumma and Romagnoli.

Italy were defeated by France (1-0). The best player of Italy according to gazzetta was Berardi. Hardly a surprise as I think his problem is the pressure on him in games which matters, while in friendlies he always delivers.

Italy U19 beat Germany 1-0

Image

Italy beat Germany in the U19 European Championships thanks to an outstanding show by goalkeeper Alex Meret.

The Azzurri youngsters started out slow and conceded many chances, with the future Mannschaft holding control of the game.

Twice Borussia Dortmund's Janni Serra had a chance to take a lead, but his first header was off the mark and the second was brilliantly saved by Italy 'keeper Meret.

The second half started in similar fashion, and it was only thanks to an outstanding Meret that the score remained level.

Eventually Max Besuschkow broke the balance as he conceded a penalty at the 77'. Federico Dimarco converted it a minute later, sealing the score until the end of the match, in spite of the German's continued efforts to equalise.
