Let's hear the tifosi reactions... :pp

I thought we were done for when Nesta asked for the change, few worse scenarios could come up in my mind and kept watching with my nails practicaly becoming non-existant.

Then Totti delivers the corner and the least expected person in the entire NT scores a nicely placed header.

My reaction was of joy and shock, which is a quite bizarre feeling. I screamed "HAHAHAHA! MARCO!!!!!!!" :pp

Ah, that was great, Matrix saved us from a humiliating first round exit, what a man.

I was watching the match with a friend of mine, he doesnt know the players that good, but since he put a bet on Italia than he wanted to see how'r they playing. So when Materazzi went in to replace Nesta, first thing I told him was "this guy is great, scores some good own goals" :D

anyways imporant was that someone scores, and I was more happy about the 2nd goal :D

I have screamed "GOOOOL" and then I told my Dad "eh cazzo, proprio LUI" :D

When we had the next corner kick, i was even cheering for Matrix, asking him to do it again :pp

The best part was Canna beating the pile of players with his fists duriing the celebration. That and Buffon running the pitch to join.

Really, though, that was some header. I mean it was a textbook picture perfect, highlight reel header. Matrix jumped so high, I swear the Russian announcers were using the words Michael Jordan to describe it. Honest, I can only understand a little Russian on TV, but I know the words Michael Jordan when I hear it and that is what they were saying.

You may not believe me, but as we were taking the corner, I said to my friends "It's alright, we have Materazzi on the field now. He is a piece of sh*t but he is 8 foot 2."

Wild celebrations when he scored. :D

I also said to the Inzaghi-bashers in the lounge room that Pippo was the 88th minute specialist. I think he scored in the 84th or something but it was close enough.

No you weren't.. he was like a rock back there.

He has dedicated his goal to De Rossi.. I don't know what to make of it.

“The goal was for myself and my family who were in the stands. Yet it was mainly for De Rossi. Like myself, he made a mistake with that elbow and he’ll pay for that.

“He’s young and errors do occur at that age. My header was for him and for all those who harshly suffer for their misdemeanours.”

Materazzi enjoys ‘divine justice’ Friday 23 June, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Italian goal hero Marco Materazzi says he’s delighted that he is finally making the headlines for the right reasons.

The Inter stopper is a controversial figure in the game given his aggressive style of play, but he turned jeers into cheers as he headed the Azzurri into the last 16 of the World Cup yesterday.

Coming on as a first half substitute for the injured Alessandro Nesta, Materazzi scored his first international goal to give his side the lead before Pippo Inzaghi sealed a 2-0 win late on against the Czechs.

“There is a divine justice,” stated the central defender. “People who know me are aware that I’m a good guy, others don’t.

“I have suffered some injustices on a human level in the past. I have made mistakes like other people, yet I was treated differently.”

Materazzi is often depicted as a villain, a reputation that he has developed after some crunching tackles and a curious incident at the end of an Inter-Reggina match when he split Bruno Cirillo’s lip in a post-match altercation.

Yet the former Perugia man won nothing but admirers on Thursday and he was eager to dedicate his strike to Daniele De Rossi, the Italian midfielder who has been heavily criticised since his dismissal against the USA.

“The goal was for myself and my family who were in the stands,” he added. “Yet it was mainly for De Rossi. Like myself, he made a mistake with that elbow and he’ll pay for that.

“He’s young and errors do occur at that age. My header was for him and for all those who harshly suffer for their misdemeanours.”

The 32-year-old will now probably start in the Australia match and is happy to be of some use to the Azzurri’s cause.

“It’s not easy to be a reserve for two phenomenons like Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro,” he continued. “I’m delighted that I was able to do well.”

If you see Canna's face when he scores, he's just as shocked as we all were, Gila's face was hilarious also.
