Happy Ramadan!! Can't wait till the blessed month kicks off....although as this is my first time, I guess I'll feel ravenous throughout the month.

Do you know when the Taraweeh prayers start? Monday night or tuesday night? I'm still unsure. I've heard that that Taraweeh prayers are so long - approx 2 hours? :eekani: :eekani: . I hope I can cope.

Hope you all have an easy Ramadan.

Why the difference? Is it that you pray at home individually and therefore it takes only 1/2 hour, whereas those who pray in congregation in a Mosque behind the Imam take much longer?

I thought it was Wednesday or Thursday. But it could be Tuesday or Wednesday. I believe astronomically the new moon is on Wednesday, so most likely it is wednesday (unless it is cloudy ;) ) . You fast on the first day of Ramadan, which is declared the night before.

Tarawee7 doesn't take that long, believe me. The number of raka3at varies between region and region, but generally it shouldn't take longer than 1/2 an hour. They have a whole month to finish the Quran.

Hijazzy, you've lost me.

The first Taraweeh that is prayed, is it the night before the first day of fasting?

To be honest with you, I'm not 100% sure. But since they don't pray it in the last day of Ramadan (if they pray taraweeh on the 29th, you know that Ramadan is 30 days), I think it is prayed from the eve of Ramadan.

It's all sunna anyway, nothing to get stressed about. :D

Thanks HiJazzy!!! Both of those posts were helpful.

A minimum of 8 Rakaats out of 20 sounds like......... a piece of cake :)

Ramadan Karim all w kol sana wento taybeen.

Paris, the length of the taraweeh depends on:

- how many Rakaa's, some imam's pray 8, some 12, some 20! (even if they pray 20, you can do 4 or 8 or whatever and leave)

- whether the mosque and the imam you're praying behind wants to cover the entire Quran in the month or not. Some imams read short verses and don't intend to recite the whole Quran in Taraweeh over 30 days. Other imam's want to read the Quran twice in Ramadan, so once every 15 days, and those obviously pray longer per day (One Ramadan I did this and it takes around 3 hours per night or so).

- of course also how the imam recites. Some imams rush through it, others recite the quran slower.

Because of this Taraweeh could take you anywhere from 1/2 hour to 3 hours. But its sunnah, so do what you can do only.

I also believe taraweeh begins on the eve of the first day, so the night before the first day.

The first day will be either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Happy Ramadan all again.

Ramadan Kareem all :)

Tarawee7 starts the eve of Ramadan, so the first taraweeh will be Monday night if Ramadan is Tuesday, or Tuesday night if Ramadan is Wednesday.
