Can't believe nobody opened a Croatia vs Italy thread yet so here we go!

Looking forward to our next big game - Prandelli announced we are unpredictable and he's changing tactics against us - what sort of tactics do you guys think he will use and do we go 4-4-2 against them or do a 4-5-1?

I think we will stick to the same formation and line-up...only difference will be that our wide players won't push up as much and MM will probably sit deeper...then again, Slaven may decide to throw caution to the wind and try to take our next two opponents head on...

Italy won't use the 3-5-2 again, Prandelli only used it to counter Spain's midfield dominance...against us he'll fancy their chances of controlling the game and will revert to his usual formation with 4 at the back...will be interesting to see how he balances the midfield...

Suho can you please edit the title and make this official, all caps makes it look kinda unofficial.

Also sticky and a poll would be awesome, get people involved! That's the main reason I was FM for so long!

Yea I've been contemplating this too, so has Bilić I bet. But I like Schifo despite his obvious shortcomings. He doesn't fill me with a great amount of confidence, but he rarely dissapoints, he is solid in the air, he doesn't fiddle too much, he clears it when he gets a chance and he follows play very well. I wonder if throwing Vida into the fire, especially when him and Čarli have never paired up before that I can remember, would be counterproductive?

So nervous about this game. But we need to come out and give 'em hell, we have a meč lopta here and they've got pressure on them for a result.

AJMO DEČKI!! PO TRI BODA!!!

Here's a quick analysis from watching Italy play in the past year.

Attacking: The Italians waste no time when they have the ball, attacks are swift and it’s rare to see a player in any position take more than 3 touches. Most attacks run through Andrea Pirlo, the anchor man in midfield. Pirlo has a quick trigger and passes the ball off very quickly. The midfield is full of players with great technical ability who like to play quick, short passes to each other. The side midfielders, Marchisio and De Rossi like to play close to the center of midfield so the fullbacks make forward runs to provide width. The strikers tend to switch positions and during an attack one will provide width in the final 1/3rd of the pitch while the other stays with the last man in defence.

Defending: Italy, as usual, are rock solid in the centre of defence but they're fullbacks are nothing special. They're fullbacks can be exploited with good wingers.

Dear, Slaven:
- Mark Pirlo very closely when the defence wins the ball, if they cannot get the ball to Pirlo they tend to struggle. Drop Mandzukic a little and have him shadow Pirlo whenever we don't have the ball.
- Use speedy, skillful wingers to exploit their fullbacks. Unfortunately Perisic is the only one who really fits the bill. Srna will help on the other side though.
- We need to take advantage of counter attacking opportunities that come our way their high-tempo style will lead to mistakes we need to punish them
- Don't let up. Why do we always sit back when we take the lead? Take the game to them for 90 minutes and I'm sure we'll win.

the defense will have a completely different test than against Ireland. Ireland cannot create anything from open play, the only time they did was when they continued playing when Mandzukic was injured and half the Croatian team was complaining. All their threat was on long balls, the Italians will actually run at our defenders and I worry about Corluka's discipline. We gave away a lot of needless fouls against Ireland

I was reading some neutrals perspective on Croatia and one guy said it perfectly, Croatia is only a solid CB partnership away from being a really good team capable of maybe winning a tournament

Well that would've been Vida and Lovren. But we can't use excuses like that anymore. We have to push teams away from our weaknesses. I think the Irish were actually our toughest test based on their style of play(long ball always in the air) for our CB's. Corluka and Schildenfeld did well. But I would play Vida and Schildenfeld against Italy. Get Corluka to LB(Strinic sucks)
