December 2024: new/old FIFA club tournament: "Coupe Intercontinentale de la FIFA 2024"

It's basically the CWC that has been played between the Confederations/continental club Champions for the past couple of decades but there's something about the new format that I don't like: The UEFA CL winners get to play 1 game instead of 2. As if the UCL winner needed to have an easier way to win a trophy when they are already dominating in recent years.

Tbh after the expansion of the CWC to a summer tournament including 32 clubs, FIFA should simply have stuck to that 1 club WC every 4 years and that's it.

So yeah, there you have it: N4L is against this new Coupe Intercontinentale de la FIFA

Looks fairly pointless/redundant.

The name does sound sexy tbf.

“Real Madrid C. F. would like to announce that at no time has there been any question regarding our participation in the new Club World Cup to be organised by FIFA in the coming 2024/2025 season,” the La Liga giants said in a statement.

“Our club will therefore take part, as planned, in this official competition and we are proud and excited to be involved in it and we will once again inspire our millions of fans all over the world with another trophy.”

The coach should do what the coach does and nothing more than that.
This is probably what Pérez told him after reading Ancelotti's interview. The main man in Real Madrid is Florentino Pérez, not Ancelotti.

Big clubs with big squads will play in CWC, they can rotate/manage their players and nowadays there are 5 subs. They will still get some time off between CWC and start of leagues. And anyhow footballers retire around 35ish, they have plenty of time to totally rest afterwards. Physically speaking, at least

Nothing in 2027? That's crazy...they should create a new cup...call it the Coupe de Merde or something.
Finally an international trophy that juve would certainly win.

So yeah, bump.

Botafogo winning Libertadores qualifies them to play a knockout match on December 11th against CONCACAF champions Pachuca.

Catchy name: "Derby of the Americas"

Looking forward to Al-Ahly vs either Botafogo/Pachuca. Would be nice to see an Egyptian club reach a final for the first time.

Al Ahly qualified after beating Asian Champions Al Ain 3-0.

Pachuca have beaten Al Ahly before in CWC, despite Ahly leading 2-0 at HT.

Real Madrid will just play 1 game against Ahly/Pachuca/Botafogo.

Should have posted/bumped this thread earlier

Al-Ahly's 2nd goal vs Al Ain was class

That match was Hernan Crespo's penultimate match as Ain coach, ftr. He was fired after losing 5-1 to CR7's Al Nassr in the Asian CL. So Crespo went from hero to fired in a matter of months. Football eh..

Yes.

The summer 2025 version has 32 clubs. Draw on December 5th.

This Intercontinental one is similar to the CWC of previous years but different format.

They're in it every year pretty much heh.. what would excite me is Al-Ahly vs Inter drawn in the same group for the summer tournament. Inter haven't faced an Egyptian team since the sixties.

It would also be exciting if Al-Ahly were to play Real Madrid again in a FIFA competition. So looking forward to December 14th.

Pachuca won 3-0 against Libertadores Champions Botafogo. Quite a scoreline. Missed it as I was working unfortunately.

Caught a replay of Botafogo-Pachuca on Bein Sports

The first half was average and fairly balanced. 0-0 the right result. Though it must be said, Botafogo's Luiz Henrique was denied a 10th minute pk. Could well have changed the match.

Idrissi scored a World class goal for the Mexicans in the 2nd half from Pachuca's first attack in it. Worth posting here:

2nd goal was a gift from Botafogo, 2 gifts actually. First by losing possession cheaply, then the Botafogo gk who allowed a fairly easy shot to go in.

Good old Rondon scored the 3rd after an Idrissi assist on a counter, Botafogo had left acres of space at the back.

Botafogo generally lacked ideas. From what I saw in Libertadores final and this match, they are fairly average. Atletico and PSG will destroy them in USA next summer.

Pachuca aren't amazing either. I think the game on Saturday is 50-50 but Real Madrid will win the final, 100%. Just hope to see an Egyptian team in a FIFA final, though.

@TTM

Some Mexicans seem quite confident...
