FC Barcelona vs Club América
Yokohama - 72370 seats
Thursday, Dec 14 - 11:20

The semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup. Barcelona face the CONCACAF champions, the Mexican America Club. América have old "friends" (or "enemies") like Claudio "El Piojo" López or Cuauhtemoc Blanco in their team. It seems that the Mexican club isn't living their best moment, since they didn't even reach the Mexican league final this year.

In theory, we are superior. But we all recall how hard was the friendly game last summer. Barcelona have to take care with the jet-lag and the long trip. The Mexicans have been in Japan more days than us and they already played one game there. I've even heard that Club América could even be more dangerous than Internacional, who have lost a lot of important players.

It's the only trophy we lack in our museum and it'd be nice to go back to Catalunya with it in our pocket. First step towards the World championship and another title for this Barça, already legendary.

Som-hi Barça! :fero:

Whether Barça wins or loses this match (or the whole tournament actually) will strictly depend on fitness and jet-lag effects. Teams like America and Internacional are not pushovers by any means, but Barça is simply above them in class. Traditionally, the South American teams maybe put more value on this cup than their European counterparts, and they usually have more time to prepare; for Barça to win, they have to perform well because the travel time was a bitch and the knees will be shaky so to speak, but they are definitely the favourites on paper.
Interesting matchups, let's just hope the boys win it and get the title that eluded teh dream team.

from what I've seen out of Club America today, they really have a good striking power, with Lopez, Blanco and #11 who I couldn't recall his name, they really had some dangerous chances, specialy in the last minutes of the game on counters.

whoever we gonna play should step big time, this is a historical moment to be honest, winning it, will make this Barca go into History where no other gone, not the Dream Team nor the era of Cruyff as player.

this team achived something that is amazing in count of trophies this far, still they are behind The Dream team in the counts of Copa Del Rey, still they are tied with 2 Liga's and 1 Champions League.

if this team wins this trophy, they'll be surpass the Dream Team in one trophy that never been won by Futbol Club Barcelona.

Quick comments:

(1)
Europe is a lot closer to Japan than South America. From Porto Alegre to Japan, Internacional traveled 42 hours. The difference in time zones is also larger for South America than for Europe or Mexico.

(2)
Internacional is from Porto Alegre, the home town of Ronaldinho, who started his career at Gremio, the other team of the city. By the way, one of the first magical plays that made Ronaldinho notorious was in a game against Internacional, when he was being chased by Dunga.

(3)
Barcelona is the favorite, but Internacional is a lot better than the sum of its parts.

In terms of that first point, it must be said that Internacional were already there by the time that we got there.

It could also be pointed out that we've had 2 games this week, whilst the Brazilian league ended a couple of weeks ago.

I can just imagine K4 and his dad, is it? The eternal pessimists reliving the nightmares Piojo López gave us (and Van Maal) in the very early part of this decade. Let's hope he doesn't have one last stand.

I don't know why people are here talking about Internacional when they still have to face the really tough Al-Ahly. It's not in the pocket for the Brazilians.

He won't watch it. :D But yeah, we both share a bad feeling. Seriously, I think that this game could even be more difficult than a posible final against Internacional... but don't ask me why.

no, the game against Club America will not be easy, but it wont stop us....

the game against internacional will be very very hard..

you see its like cheating :) having a team full of brazilians :)

in europe 2-3 per team break all hell... if you have 11 naturally gifted footballers against you, thats bad... you have to be organized and beat them the "european" way... ie: good defense, faster counter-attacks, and long balls ;)

all not particularly our game

our defense cannot have a bad game against a team of brazilians! winners of copa libertadores are traditionally very offensive teams whom you have to beat with organized defenses and quick counters

I saw Internacional earlier today and they didn't look that impressive.

They've got some nice players upfront and a pretty solid midfield, the defence is also pretty allright but I really can't see them shake Barcelona.

Club America won their only game so far in this tournament with 0:1. They didn't look impressive either as they missed a whole lot of chances and their goal was a pretty lucky one.

I believe Barcelona should take this, but it certainly won't be as hard as some of you believe here. Barcelona is one of the best, if not, the best team in the world currently.

If they play at their top level, they should be doing very good and win their games :smileani:

Saviola has been given the medical all-clear today. He'll be at Rijkaard's disposal for this game.
Edmilson on the other hand is ill so he'll won't be available.

In full force yes, but the Barcelona that will play the WCC is far from its full force. No Messi and no Eto'o = a weaker Barça.

But I do agree that Barcelona are the clear favorites this year - unlike last year, when Liverpool and São Paulo were much more evenly matched. Inter lost too many starters after the Libertadores, and no matter how good their replacements are, their current team is undeniably weaker than the one that won the Libertadores on the 1st semester.

America will be no pushovers, but I fully expect us to win this match. When we played them in preseason we were far from fitness and they were already a good way into their season. It looked like we could turn it on when we needed to at the end of that match.

Is Saviola making the trip? He had a good performance against America this summer.
