Bussing takes so much out of you mentally; they have no idea how strong Steaua is or they do, and like above said.. they don't care :D

normally i'm the last one to be cocky when it comes to playing small teams (we don't like it the other way either ;) ) but in this case, without knowing anything about Vardar (and knowing Steaua's squad, coach and quality), not even beaming would help Vardar to advance somehow. i hope i didn't jinx it now... :scared:

One of the better teams during Yugoslavia's existence and the best one to come from Macedonia from a historical point of view. Excellent team back in the 1980s when they took out Dinamo Bucharest in the UEFA Cup.

In 1987 they won the title in Yugoslavia.

They have been playing a lot of European football in recent years as a result of constantly being on top in Macedonia. In terms of strength they are probably on level with a team like Ceahlaul or Viitorul.

Steaua will advance but they shouldn't take the game lightly. FK Vardar gave trouble to a team like BATE Borisov last season, losing 3-2 on aggregate.

The second leg will be played at Philip II Arena, one of the nicest stadiums in the Balkans.

Come to think of it, I watched Vardar against Stuttgart or Schalke in a friendly I think (within 3 months) and they were run over like a fourth division side.

Steaua is on par with the elite European teams, not the super elites.. Vardar would be lucky to be a Europa League level side in the groups imo.

With that being said, anytime you take a small team lightly, anything could happen for the worst in a single game.. over two legs though; no possible way Steaua mess up.

I don´t know about Vardar, but Steaua´s offensive situation is worrysome. At the moment it isn´t crazy to think they may start official games with stanciu and Costea or Nikolic:scared: as their offensive cards

Piovaccari is a big ? and the best case scenario is that he could be a good backup for Rusescu, and Steaua still needs a striker they lacked last season.

They have much better options in midfield right now with Stanciu doing well, Iancu appearing now and then and Radut seemingly integrating well, but who will score against good teams?

I looked at the Italian guy's numbers and scoring like every 3rd or 4th game in Serie B isn't that convincing...and being 28/29 years old means he won't get any better in the future. rom. clubs' outstanding "scouting" doesn't help either in finding good players who are not already on the map of bigger clubs.
i bet the experts in this forum could easily name a player who is affordable and is much better than what Steaua has: Costea (even if he scores in friendlies, he's not good enough, especially not against international opponents) and Nicolic (where in the world can a player be a part of the squad only one week after he puked out of a taxi)

I'm no expert but if nothing else you can get a guy like Temwanjera for cheap. He's a proven scorer with a good midfield line behind him and has EL experience. Not saying he's the *best* option, but an improvement over Nikolic or Mihai.

Obviously Alibec didn't get loaned there but they wanted him.

Serie B and Ligue II guys don't cut it IMO. We don't have many good scorers.

I've never seen a less dangerous striker than Tatu...not a bad footballer per se but not Steaua material.

Some of the strikers you mentioned Rumaniac would be possible to get for under/about 1 M....Bawab, Kapetanos, Fatai...and you can be 100% sure with these guys that they can do the job.

when i think about it, i don't think that Steaua does scouting or has scouts...?!

12 preliminar rounds in a row won by Steaua, continental record along with Dynamo Kiev (period 1997-2004). They'll set the new absolute record if they beat Vardar.

Steaua don't lose a preliminar round since 2005, against Rosenborg. Since then they won all of them:
