Whats the difference?
East Asia = Japan, South Korea, China, and so on. Far East Asia.
ASEAN = Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. South East Asia.

East Asia is superior as far as I know. I'd rather us be there as there's really no use of us being in ASEAN against minnows, IMO.

Mmm, bitterness ...

khimik is correct there - geographically Australia should be Southeast Asia, coz of the uh, south, element there.
IMHO Australia is not on the same level as S. Korea or Japan, but indeed, it's more suitable for Australia to be 'grouped' under East Asia in that sense (I mean, since in the first place Australia is not Asia...). Of course if we're disregarding the West vs East part there altogether then you have the eternal debate of which region is better, West or East Asia and well, uh, that debate is endless ;)

At any rate it doesn't exactly have that much influence. Unless you intend to join SEA Games for the soccer too, heh.

Me, bitter? No. Bemused? Certainly.

Anyhow, welcome to the AFC. As Australia seem to be able to get in wherever they wish, why not be part of West Asia, so our teams can duel with each other frequently, and who knows, we may just stir up a regional rivalry.

Be sure to bring some of those inflatable kangaroos when you hit the road.

The main reason we applied to join Asia was so we could play the best on offer. If the best on offer for us is East Asia then that's where he'll try and get ourselves placed in if we can. Plus, they're in the same timezone as us. :pp

the kangaroos will suffer from AFC territorys hot, sultry climate(specially japan and middle east) and shitty AFCs refs and
a lot of ARABs plots and travels from your country to middle east.
once u join AFC, u can't leave there for the time being.ok?
AFC is a ****ing organization, ARABs toy.
first, u have to know it before u become a member of asia.

wherever we end up im happy :)

im just so relieved that finally we get to play meaningful matches against good opposition consistently, in WC qualifiers and asia cup qualifiers. If we're not good enough to get through then so be it, i wont be whingeing, im just glad we as fans get to see our a-team play in real qualifiers at home more than once every bloody 4 years

All the Australia entry to AFC stuffs would be useless if Australia is categorized in ASEAN region since it only has 1 or 2 good teams there. East Asia suited them more. If you guys Aussie people want some challenge, that's the right place.
It doesn't matter if Australia is in South East Asia. With or without it, SEA countris still won't qualify for WC. We're way behind east/west asia.
But watch out for Boaz Salosa:star: from Indonesia, he's very good.
