DF - Yanga Mbiwa can go back to Newcastle. I would keep Astori as back up, but we would need to sign a starter in case Castan does not return. Maicon and Cole contracts to be rescinded and go to the US or something. I would keep Torosidis and Cholevas as back up FB and sign 2 new starters. 1 of the Torino ones seem a certainty especially Peres and whoever else for RB I am unsure.

MF - DDR will stay I am sure despite his drunken performances. I think Pjanic will be the big player sold. Nainggolan, Keita, DDR, Strootman (has to count as squad member due to wages), Paredes, Ucan and we will try to sign 1 big name MF. Viviani will be loaned again or used as a pawn to Serie A team, maybe Torino.

FW - A good name number 9 will be signed. Doumbia will go back (we didn't sign him for good did we?), we will need to sign a back up 9 too and let Sanabria go on loan. Ibarbo, Florenzi, Gervinho, Iturbe and Ljajic will remain as wing forwards. I still sense an explosion in Iturbe but may be naïve.

 

Deano if think we signed both Mbiwa & Doumbia.

I hope we send Astori back. We'll see what happens with Ibarbo, as for Radja there will be hell, cause Cagliari will try to earn as much as possible plus, there will be a lot of foreign interest for their half.

IIRC there was a clause in the loan deal that made it mandatory for Roma to buy him if he plays a certain number of games or us, and he did that some months ago already.

 

Mbiwa option to buy was activated after he reached number of games. (for 7.35 mil - making total fee 8.6 mil)

Oh dear, not that Yanga is exactly the worst CB ever but he is too clumsy. If we got him then we should not sign Astori and instead choose for a certain starter CB

 

I think Castan--Manolas are more then decent to start with Astori and Yanga as back up. As 4th choice, Yanga is actually quite decent. Hopefully in less hectic environment next year and with a season under his belt in italy he will show his quality.

We need at least 20-30 mil to buy Astori, Ibarbo and Nainggolan. Letting any of them go will mean spending even more trying to find replacement. If we make CL it will mean another 40-50 mil spending budget - leaving 20-25 mil for two fullbacks and GK.

This team can challenge and go far in Europe without another injury crisis and everyone healthy.

 

We would need to rely on Castan being the Castan we knew before however

 

We still have the 2nd best defence in Italy. And it can only be better with more cohesive team structure and solid midfield. If Castan becomes healthy is only a plus.

Not that we have a choice, another starter material defender would mean at least 10-15 mil which bette spent in areas with that are higher priority.

 

I expect Romagnoli will return next season. Whether Castan will return to his previous level of performance is questionnable, so 5 CDs (Manolas, Castan, Romagnoli, Yanga-Mbiwa and Castan) could be in the squad.

I would buy a new RB before LB because Maicon has chronic injury problems and Holebas is dependable enough, at least in Serie A.

 

Romagnoli will stay at Samp for another season, as confirmed by Samp multiple times. Which is good since he will have regular playing time rather than being a 4th choice in Roma.
