2013 Summer/Winter Mercato
Summary of the rumours of last few days:
- Ilicic is likely to be our first signing of the summer. His agent confirmed we are already in "advanced" negotiation with Palermo to get him. Not a bad squad player with tons of Seire A experience, especially after his best season to date with 11 goals.
- Stekelenburg likely to leave to Fulham. Name to replace him: Rafael, possibly Sirigu if PSG get Casillas.
- Osvlado wanted Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia and Spurs.
- Jovetic in exchange for Osvlado + Bertolacci +$$. Rumour says Nike wants him to be the poster boy of their Roma campaign.
- Isla is a possibility. However Inter and Napoli are after him as well.
- Just like the way he got Lamela, Sabatini is working a deal to get Boca's 18 year old talent Paredes, nicknamed by their fans the new Riquelme.
- If Palermo goes down, Roma will try to get Hernandez.
- We are after Sakai, 22 year old Japanese RB plays for Stuttgart.
- Some interest in Udinese's Basta. Report says he was requested by Mazzarri.

I have my doubts about Iličić in his good days he can be an valuable asset to our team, but he tends to really play warm/cold for long periods, motivation is a big factor in his head. It all depends on the price, I doubt Zamparini will let him go for a "squad player" price, options will open up if they go down to Seria B.

Ilicic is a very talented player on his day but he is a risk (especially at 10M) because we really can't afford any more mentally weak players. And that's what he is: mentally weak, even if he has talent. We have plenty of talent already but what we need is a change in mentality, a will to win and players who can perform in a toxic environment.
Lovren would be a very good replacement for Burdisso, IMO. Cheaper than Ogbonna and IMO a better player.

We need back up for Pjanic and Lamela. We lack creativity in midfield beyond those two. If Ilicic is bough as squad player to back them up then he indeed can be very useful.

Sky: Roma will start the market with Toby Alderweireld, Ajax defender and goalkeeper Rafael Santos of the '90 class that will replace Stekelnburg which will land at Fulham.

Think he's replacing Marquinhos, whose headed to PSG/Barca, but Benatia is solid, indeed. Basta has heart.
If we ended up selling Lamela or Marquinhos at this point, then the whole project has been a complete failure. The whole point was to balance the books but looking for good cheap young talent and developing them into stars since we cannot afford to just go buy big name players. Makes absolutely no sense to sell any of our young players.
The goal is to keep the youth, develop a core to build around, and keep them together for a winning cycle. Lamela, Marquinhos, Destro, Pjanic, and Florenzi are that core.

Doubt we will get Benatia. Since we are not going to get Mazzarri as it seems and won't be playing 3 man defense. There is no need for another quality defender. Marcos-Castan are starter material. Burdisso said he is going to stay. Him and Romagnoli are more than enough back up. Doubt we will spend 11 mil on back up unless we are planning to sell either marcos or Castan and or ditch Burdisso.
