It really sucks but there was nothing we could have done here, they paid the buy out clause and Witsel agreed to go.

Javi Garcia forced out as far as we're told, "too good of a deal" to pass up for him in Man City, as for Witsel Zenit offered to pay the 40 million Euro and convinced him to go, when that happens the player can say not but the $$$$ spoke higher.

Who paid the other $20M. Zenit insists they paid $40M for each player. So where did the other $20M come from? And since when is $20M 15% of $60M?Breakdown:

With Russia's government having a couple of guys already bashing the transfers, it wouldn't surprise me if Zenit are just trying to save face.
Porto owned 85% of Hulk and got 40m for their 85%. The additional 20m covered the 15% from DIS, the agent comissions, player sign-on fee, and the payment to the solidary fund in Japan that facilitated his first transfer.
Anyhow, what are your thoughts on the deals Pila? Content that our clubs did good business and got good money, or disappointed that our league continues to get weaker? I've been reading and hearing so many mixed opinions on the matter. My dad, for example, says he couldn't care less about the money going into the pockets of LFV/PdC/etc., he just cares about the quality of our league and it's gone downhill this summer. Your thoughts?

Zenit said they are paying Witsel's 40m in 3 installments, which means Benfica agreed to the deal. A buyout clause is a fixed sum of money to be paid all up front to release the player from his contract, any deferring of the payments is negotiated upon.
Seems LFV is trying to save face, but the truth is he negotiated Javi Garcia and Witsel's sales both.

Pinto Of the Coast said Hulk was sold for $60M, they only got $40M, and Zenit insists they paid $40M. You can't just go around and lie about $20M.
Let's give Pinto of the Coast the benefit of the doubt here, after all, his integrity has never been questioned before, so let's get my trusty calculator and see how this 15% of a 60M pass is worth-
$60M - 15% = $51M.
So in reality Zenit either paid $51M for 85% of the pass, or there is a missing $9M somewhere, unaccounted for.
Perhaps that's what's clogging up Pinto of the Coast's arteries.

I'll take your silence as admission that Pinto of the Coast's claim of $60M for Hulk doesn't really add up to you either and he was just blowing smoke to save face on that $50M rejection lie. Fine - good of you to admit that.
Teams in our league have to perpetually sell players at profits in order to stay competitive with the giants in Europe, so taking chances on young players and raising them to future super lucrative deals is in integral part of staying competitive in Europe.
In this case, for Porto it's a good deal because the eventual move was anticipated, and doesn't necessarily leave the club with glaring weaknesses.
For Benfica, contrary to Javi's exit, the sell of Witzel was not anticipated and thus not planned for. So despite the lucrative transaction, combined with Garcia's exit, this leaves the club incredibly vulnerable in all competitions, which in the end may prove to be more costly than the 30-odd million they made on the deal. This will be very difficult to overcome.
