Why would Lippi take out Pirlo to defend the lead? He should have taken out Pepe or Iaquinta instead and maybe we wouldn't have lost the midfield how we did.............crap coaching from the first minute! Even if it wasn't his fault that we got the red card, it was his fault that he called up crappy players like Pepe and Dossena and actually played them :yuck:

Oh well, a draw is better than a loss

Oh, and Chiellini is a beast :proud:

For me the worst substitution was putting Dossena on left wing. He was terrible, not because Dossena is a bad player, but because he is not an attacking left winger. His tactical sense was none. Pepe should have staye don and then Rossi should have entered on 70 or something because Pepe was at least still a little involved and was doing his tactical role quite well in the start of the 2nd half. Once Pepe and Pirlo was subbed we had no attacking sense at all and were looking for the 1-0. Admittedly we were unlucky not to stay 1-0, Ireland created absolutely nothing until the goal which was very lucky... just a typical British style goal.

Crap match to watch though. Thanks to the ref mostly who undeservedly red-carded one our players inside 4 minutes. Well done  So for this I am at leats happy we got a point. Maybe other teams would have played better with 10 but lost as is typical when you are in 10.

marlo i find your comments unjust. other than the horrible sub, the team was well prepared for this game.
Lippi leaving Cassano (and a whole bunch of other more deserving players) at home and calling up Pepe is unjust

I am just calling it as it is. I dont hate Lippi but if he makes decisions that I dont agree with I will say it, no reason not to

Lippi trying to defend a lead is FINE, he did what he had to do. But taking off our whole attack (Pirlo) and then on top of that, putting on Dossena at LM is ridiculous! He REALLY should have taken off Iaquinta or Pepe at half time in my opinion but oh well............

Ypu still on a Pepe thing here? Pepe did well in this game too, of course he could hardly showed much but he did alot of work again and was not terrible offesnively considering the circumstance. As I said, maybe if we had Cassano on the field we could have played better (but not scored more than 1 goal) but the result still could have been the same, its all hypothetical. We look on from here, I will criticise Lippi for his wrong choice of subs more than his convocation for these matches. Now we wlook ahead to September, there is not much we can do about a crappy ref here.

I want to see Miccoli as well next time around(Hope stays injury-free). I'm sure Italy will reach the WC in the end.
Why not? We are in a 100% better position this time than our last qualifying campaign.

But Italy is at risk of not qualifying now, whatever you say.
For this to realistically happen Italy need to **** up one other game aswell as lose to Ireland while Ireland need to win every game from now until the end of qualification. Of course, we will see... but I would rather bet on Italy at very short odds of qualifying rather than the above to happen... even if worst came to the worst, Italy would still go into a playoff.
