If the CL gets its thread, the UEFA Cup also deserves one. We're in the final qualifying round after all.
My own team Rosenborg more or less embarrassed itself. Against Djurgardens, who have not won any important game in months, we managed to lose 2-1. Typically Rosenborg this season: inconsistency is the magic word ; some games we freewheel over the opposition and could be a threat to even the great clubs, the next game those same players are playing weak enough to be beaten by a 3rd division team. Unbelievable how those players can play top football one week and suddenly crash and burn the next week. OK, not trying to dramatise but losing against a team that had not won any important game for a long time, is not boosting confidence.
One upside: we have the vital away goal and a 2-1 deficit should be overcome at home in Norway. Hopefully the players realise the importance of this game, we need the UEFA Cup group stages to give some spice to our colourless season.
Biggest upset in the qualifiers IMO: Man City losing at home to Midtjylland from Denmark. 0-1 for the Danes. I still think City is capable of winning in Denmark, this tie is far from decided. But this will be a huge test for them, with a lot of pressure.
Minor upset: AEK Athens lost to Apoel Nicosia 0-1. Another Cypriot uppercut to a Greek team although here as well AEK still have the experience to turn this around in the second leg.
Remarkable as well: Grasshoppers, not long ago doing well in Europe, lost 6-0 against Lech Poznan in Poland.
Deportivo-Hajduk 0-0 should also be an extremely interesting return game in Croatia.
